How to Make a Better Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

Sarzy says...

This is the wrongest batch of wrong in the history of wrong. A sandwich with natural peanut butter might be perfectly tasty, but if you want a classic PB&J sandwich, it's gotta be Jif or Skippy or Peter Pan or one of the store-bought kinds. PB&J is classic comfort food -- it and "gourmet" should not be in the same sentence.

But then I guess I should expect this kind of nonsense from a co-owner of a place that has the balls to serve nothing but peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and to charge five bucks (or more!) per sandwich. Five bucks! For a sandwich that literally takes less than a minute to prepare, and that has about 25 cents worth of ingredients (if that).

A Dumbfuck George W Moment You Haven't Heard Yet

Bush said a lot of dumb things but he didn't do many dumb things. Try learning to fly an F-102 without getting yourself killed.

"Didn't do many dumb things." You mean like:
1. Stopped showing up to work as an F-102 pilot?
2. Dropping the US out of the ABM treaty
3. Ensuring the US would not join the International Criminal Court
4. Allowing Cheney to hire himself
5. Invading Iraq
6. Pardoning Skippy
7. Ignored memo indicating bin Laden was determined to attack the US and stayed on his vacation instead

That's just from memory

And in all fairness, he did somethings ok:
1. Handled the plane incident with China in spring 2001 ok and the crew were returned ok.
2. Vacationed like a boss

Teabaggers Begin Campaign of Terror Against Democrats

NetRunner says...

@blankfist, remember when I told you about the JUSTICE Act, and you proudly told me that you'd called your Senators and asked them to vote No?

Good work there, skippy, it never even made it to a vote due since it was considered too radical by all Republicans, and the "centrist" Democrats. So instead they just reauthorized Patriot through the end of February 2011. Good news is that it sunsets again on that date.

Bad news is, there are likely to be more Republicans in Congress, moving us even further away from getting it to just go away.

Where's your overwhelming popular uprising of libertarian opposition? Us progressives could use a little help with getting Democrats to stand up for what they say they believe, and people pressuring Republicans on this issue from the right would be a big help.

So call me when Ron Paul sends out an e-mail about Patriot Act, and not fucking Obamacare. He used to care about that issue too, but I sure haven't heard a damn thing from C4L on anything but the Fed and Obamacare since Democrats took office.

@NordlichReiter, I responded to Cantor's political stunt on that page.

Where indeed did the Anti-war movement go? Same place it's always been, protesting, and being ignored by TV media.

Why aren't Democrats calling for Obama's head? Well, because he's keeping his promise on withdrawing troops from Iraq, and following through on what he said he'd do in Afghanistan -- give the war there the troops and resources it needs to put us on a path to being able to leave.

I'm really iffy about that second part, but I have a lot more trust that Obama really wants to get out of Afghanistan than I ever did with Bush. I think he gave the "begin to withdraw" date of July, 2011. You can bet that he's going to have a lot of explaining to do to his base if he doesn't meet or exceed that commitment.

Anyways, you are both engaging in Red Herring arguments.

Teabaggers and Republicans are engaging in political terrorism, and Nordlich insists on trying to establish a false equivalence so he can feel pride in his moderate independentness by refusing to say "Republicans are turning into violent thugs", while blankfist wants to pretend that he hasn't himself endorsed political violence, and try to turn the topic onto some form of "if liberals are so great, why haven't they fixed the messes created by conservatives already!"

Seriously, is it so fucking hard to just say "Yeah, what Republicans are doing is really scary and wrong", and use some other video comment section to air your grievances against the left?

The Terrible and Fantastic Origin of Human Life on Earth

What Caused the Great Depression in the U.S.?

NetRunner says...

Actually, it's pretty funny to me how he essentially says that the problem was that the Fed contracted the money supply in response to a crash. That's exactly what the Keynesian and Monetarist schools believe.

I also like how at 9:20 or so he says "the biggest gains happened when the National Recovery Act was overturned" well skippy, the National Recovery Act was trying to stop deflation by fixing prices. Not a good idea, definitely a drag on the economy, and not a part of the New Deal liberals want to repeat. He then says the "Agricultural Adjustment Act" (aka a farm subsidy bill) was struck down in 1936, and boom, growth immediately falls off (according to the chart), though his narrative blames that on the institution of the NLRA, which still exists today, and just protects the rights of workers to organize Unions.

What really cause the fall off was that Roosevelt was persuaded to believe that the depression was over, and it was time to cut spending, raise taxes, and balance the budget. Doing so immediately sent the economy crashing down again.

He also uses some voodoo to leave you thinking that because Obama thinks fiscal stimulus will help (and it did, even this video states that the economy recovered when the giant government stimulus of WWII began), he will somehow order the Fed to contract the money supply too. One, he can't, and two, we learned our lesson -- you need to expand the money supply in downturns, otherwise it chokes off the recovery. Bernanke is expanding the money supply.

He also defiantly ends with "it was not the free market and the gold standard that caused the problem", he's half right. With regard to the Great Depression, they were contracting money supply to get back onto the gold standard, and refusing to bail out the banks, which made a recession into a depression (not the free market). This economic problem was caused by the free market, and but Austrians cry out for a return to the gold standard, and that we let the banks fail.

We did it the classical/Austrian way in the 1930's, and it caused the Great Depression. Now you want us to do the same things you wanted (and got) Hoover to do, and got Roosevelt to do in 1937. Forget it.
