I...I...I Think It Touched My Brain!

spoco2 says...

Upvote just because it has a Neti pot. Although he has serious issues if he can't use it correctly.

I have one and they're friggen brilliant! It doesn't hurt, it doesn't make you gag, it doesn't even feel weird... unless:
* When you tilt your head you do so with a backwards slant so it falls out of your nose and runs into your mouth instead... that's not nice
* You have loaded up the water with so much salt it's not in solution so you end up with actual grains of salt in your nose... that kinda hurts
* You put something other than warm salty water in it... like... really cold water, or really hot water, or urine.

Basically, if you have a sinus infection, or gunged up nasal area in general, and are having issues with it... try one of these, they're really cheap, considered safe by all medical practitioners and have been used for centuries in various countries.

oh, and as a bonus unexpected side effect, my skeptic wife told me that it's stopped me snoring too... so bravo to these things.

The Deepest Pool in the World

11807 says...

Deepest I've been is 129 ft at "Anchor Wall", Cayman Islands.

Crushbug, that's cause the pressure inside your sinuses become far less than the ambient pressure. To fix that, all you do is pinch your nose and gently exhale through it to direct the air into the sinuses. This equalizes pressure eliminating squeeze. You can try it now, but careful not to do it forcefully. You'll feel your ears gently "pop" when done right.

I definitely want to dive that pool. Clean water and unlimited viz is nice to have. Too bad there's nothing to play with though. When it comes to indoor diving, nothing beats going in an aquarium and waving at the people on the other side of the glass, posing for pictures =D

Guy's Neat Performance with a Woman's Voice

smibbo says...

its good because it's clear; most falsettos have a breathy quality and its hard to switch from one note to the next with clarity. However, training and practice will smooth the rough edges out of anyone's voice. He manages the cute (and difficult) trick of pushing his falsetto out through his sinuses making it sound strong and he controls his breath so well thus it sounds clear. I commend him.

Worms inside a persons face!

Fletch says...

From reading the YT comments... those worms did not come from inside his face. It's a traditional Malaysian(?) method of treating certain sinus ailments by rubbing cockroaches on the person's face, and the juices are supposed to have some curative effect. From what I read, it seems the worms actually come from inside the roach's stomach, and the little white blobs you see first are actually eggs from which the worms emerge. Third world charlatan hocus-pocus.

Where did you get the idea this was a result of eating tainted food?

Netti Pot Instructions

nerdgirl98 says...

I didn't have a netti pot so I improvised and used a child's sippy cup. It worked great and I haven't had any allergies or headaches for two days now. The playtex sippy cup worked the best imo. My 7 yr old tried it also and is waiting for me to go fill the cup again so she can do the other side. My allergies have been so bad this year that I haven't been able to step outside without suffering for the rest of the day or a few days. Today I went outside several times...and our graw was mowed today. I am still breathing perfectly and have not taken any sinus remedies for two days.

Tom yum goong Fight Scene (3:03)

therealblankman says...

For those who liked the movie, below is a recipe for Tom Yum Goong soup.

I serve this soup directoy into individual bowls for each person.

If you don't like it hot, cut down on the chili peppers or do not cut them up, but leave them whole for decoration.
4 cups water
1 cup shrimp
5 mushrooms
1-2 limes
1 lemon grass
3 kaffir lime leaves
2 tablespoon fish sauce
5 sprigs cilantro
3 chili peppers
1 tablespoon nam prig pow Optional

Start boiling the water in a 2 quart pot. Peel and devein the shrimp and set them aside. Cut lemon grass into pieces, 5-6 inches long. Use the back of your knife to pound the lemon grass, just to bruise it to release the flavor. If you want, you can tie the lemon grass into a knot to make it easier to manage. Drop the lemon grass in water and let boil for 5 minutes.

Put the fish sauce and 1 lime's juice into the bottom of the bowls you will serve the soup in. Crush chili pepper and add to the bowl.

Remove the stems from the kaffir lime leaves and add the leafy part to the pot. Clean and halve the mushrooms and add them to the pot. Add the shrimp and turn off the heat. Shrimp gets too tough very quickly, and will cook even when it is just sitting in the warm broth. Scoop the shrimp and liquid into the serving bowls immediately. As soon as you add the liquid to the serving bowl, you will see that the broth becomes cloudy because of the lime juice. Add the nam prig pow. Sprinkle with cilantro and serve.

Be very careful, the peppers can be hot. Take a small sip at a time. Add more fish sauce and/or lime juice if it tastes bland. It's right if it's good for your sinus.
