viral? fake?
Powerpoint disables the screen saver during a presentation, so it's definitely fake.

Since the PS3 is on my LAN, Nullriver has an excellent piece of software called MediaLink which allows me to access mp3's, videos, and photos from my computer. Setup playlists, create slideshows/screensavers, watch movies you've downloaded. Super awesome.

Electric Sheep: Distributed Computing Fractal Screensaver
Downloaded the screensaver, installed it and started getting BSODs on my XP install. Disabled the screensaver and haven't had a BSOD yet.

While the sheep are quite nice, I was disappointed by the way it all works. It's a bittorrent client that downloads mpegs and plays them as a screensaver. It seems rather inefficient to me. Certainly, these could be rendered in real time on any computer made in at least the last 5 years? Downloads would be drastically smaller then, as it could just be plaintext algorithms.
Also probably the only screensaver to require firewall reconfiguration.
Look in to the sofware, generating these fractals cost many hours of computer time.

Michio Kaku on Aliens, Hyperspace & the Multiverse
I would use gravity waves. It may be the only type of energy that can travel across all of them. However we are still far from building good detectors.
I was thinking the other day about this. I think our reality is closer to "the matrix" than people realize. We may be entirely be inside a quantum computer which is seeking "something" (I do not know what). I am guessing this because it seem too strange to me that the universe behave in such a nice mathematical way and it is seeking every possible outcome. To be honest it sounds like something a programmer would do to seek the perfect answer for a particular problem.
The universe looks very grandiose to us to be so, but it may be because we are so undeveloped. May be for super intelligent creatures this is nothing more than a screensaver.

Other way around, this one was submitted first. The other one is the dupe and will be discarded.
