So, in short, let's just be a little nicer to each other, regardless of differences in opinion/belief? I am all for that. Some people are a bit too scathing in their commentary, and when your audience is mostly in agreement anyway, you're kinda just pissing in the wind.

Sometimes I just think Yahtzee has to find stuff to bitch about. It's what he's payed to do. As his reviews go, this one isn't very scathing.

A few points in my defense:

1. My comment was in support of Throbbin's point to QM that the onus of proof is on the accuser, not the accused. I was making it in an offensively humorous way, which is a trademark of my persona here. The need to explain this is sad. To say I am making an attack on homosexuals is fucking ridiculous.
2. My comment is only a personal attack if you are homophobic or think there is something wrong with sucking dick left and right. Otherwise see above about scathing humor.
3. Take a look at my unsifted videos. I posted something to the gay channel yesterday.

And finally, if you look at section 30 (Hobbling) of the FAQ it says (summarizing) that hobbling is for members who are abusing their star priveleges to the detriment of the site or community. Making a single inappropriate comment does not fall under this heading.

Furthermore, section 32 states that a comment found particularly offensive by enough members of the community will be deleted. Nowhere does it state this earns an instahobble.

Beautiful... That was probably the best skit I've seen on the onion. The worst is that this is what "news" morning shows are like. Scathing.

Well I and all my friends (guys included) absolutely love the book series, and the film does them justice more so than films usually do. But it's the first one, setting the scene somewhat. I would definitely not recommend it to anyone who hasn't read the books, it'd be lame

WTF are you talking about? I have always discarded inappropriate SiftTalks that maybe don't belong, or videos even, I've discarded plenty of them, mostly self-linking. I guess the system really has moved towards a *discuss consensus. If anyone wants to start a scathing SiftTalk about my actions go ahead. But we are each others keepers.

I'm not sure why you keep ranting on about this injustice you suffered. Maybe mauz is trolling you into it, but here's the deal... Now that we've made up, allow me to make you mad again. No, please don't get mad. I sincerely hope that the following doesn't offend. It is pretty didactic, so please forgive me.

I want to mention that Atheists do not earn respect by being unpleasant, aggressive, and self-satisfied. The most acceptable religious people, I think you would agree, are the type who believe in something and do good with it, who are well-informed and AT LEAST attempt to incorporate science and logic into their religion, who are tolerant of all other people, and who do not force their religion upon anyone who doesn't want it. Many Atheists I have encountered are just the opposite. They are intolerant of the beliefs of others and are more than happy to lump all religious people into one "stupid and ignorant" category. They are determined to enlighten the world. Most Atheists see a difference between pushing Atheism and proselytizing (ex. They would see a problem with door-to-door missionaries but not door-to-door Atheists) when there is really very little difference.

I believe that the best kind of Atheists realize that Atheism is the belief that God does not exist, not just a non-belief. They are tolerant of other beliefs, and they do not make broad, scathing generalizations about theists. I am religious, obviously, but I am probaly just as baffled and horrified by the goings-on of most Christian denominations as you are. But you will never catch me calling them all stupid and ignorant. Many or most are, yes, but not all. Have you ever bothered to discover religions who DO believe in evolution? Have you ever thought about the possibility that theism and logic could coexist? I'm not asking you to believe that they can, but never to have considered or thought about any of these possibilties...is kind of ignorant, isn't it? To stamp an "ignorant and stupid" label to every theist's forehead, especially around here, is exceedingly easy and doesn't require as much thinking for yourself as many seem to believe.

Just some food for thought. Please don't flame me.

Though I have to say I actually wouldn't be slightly indignant if I read that. I would just think they were as stupid and ignorant as I think every religious person is and just ignore their opinion as it would hold no weight coming from a stupid person anyway.

In all honesty, I stopped reading the comments on the porn post a LONG time ago. The reason being that people were insulting me personally and it started getting to me. And there was such an avalanche of opposition that I read those comments and felt helpless and discouraged in the face of everyone's personal opinions about why porn is wonderful. Deedub81 has been more much effective in providing scientific evidence against porn than I have. My argument was weak and underdeveloped.

Let me explain myself. I disagree with CaptainPlanet420 that this is blatant objectification of women. It really isn't. This video bothers me because it is so seldom that we see videos of women on the Sift that it bothers me when the only ones to make the top 15 usually involve tags that say "boobies" or "cute chick." These women are acting like idiots and their only apparent value is their cleavage.
Granted, if these two people were shirtless men I would probably laugh and upvote. I admit it. But that's because men get sifted all of the time for merits of the mind whereas women who make the top 15 are usually hot, scantily clad, or incredibly stupid.

100 years ago there was no income tax, now the income tax is 40%. If a slave is someone who is taxed 100% (receives no income) how do you describe someone whose taxes are steadily increasing towards 100% (currently 60% total)? The size of government is directly related to the amount of taxation. Obama wants larger government which necessitates larger taxes. These changes were not made with force--they were made by voluntarily voting in representatives. Now explain how my statement:

Was either ignorant or immature? What I said was an accurate description of 20th century history. You are free to argue against it, but it is a fact and I will defend it. Yes I am making scathing comments in no uncertain terms, but I am on topic and replying to what people say. Why shouldn't I be scathing to someone who gives up their freedom (and mine) voluntarily? The difference between my comments and yours, are that mine are well thought out (even if they are wrong, or you don't understand them). I am on topic, while you are merely flying random insults. What I said was valid regardless of your first-pass understanding or interpretation of it.
