You've done your homework like a good little boy. Yea, I always thought of a real satanist as somebody that is their own god and that one should live as one wishes as long as they're willing to deal with the consequences involved.
You even used the word "myriad" correctly.

Can't speak for all "denominations", but I can tell you with authority that the COS is made up of atheists who do not believe in a literal Devil or Hell. Satan is a symbol and representative of man's animal nature. Where it might differ from non-Satanic atheists is the idea that "magic" aka force of will, exists. A spell or 'destruction ritual' serves mainly as a psychological purging for the "magician". Obviously the targeted "victim" doesn't always fall prey to destruction a la The Omen.
Anton LaVey (plagiarist extraordinaire) realized that man has an eternal need for ritual and spectacle and capitalized on it. His observations about human nature are spot on, though many of them are lifted without credit from myriad sources.
No, I am not a Satanist, despite my dark and arcane knowledge. <IMG class=smiley src="http://cdn.videosift.com/cdm/emoticon/smileopen.gif"> The irony of the Church of Satan and Satanists in general is that one obviously need not believe in anything to feel lust, rage, envy, hate, etc. Hypocrisy is the greatest luxury among all humans.

It's not the opposite of Christianity, it's more of the same - based on the same mythology and dogma that encompasses the christian faith. These are people who believe in God and the Devil and are picking a side.
People who call themselves atheists believe in neither - that they are just figments of the imagination and creations of man for use in control over the masses - and apparently it works very well on the weak minded.

Could not the same be said for the Christian faith?
The irony of the Church of Christ and Christians in general is that one obviously need not believe in anything to feel love, compassion, joy, empathy, etc.

As Luke said in ESB: "You'll find I'm full of surprises." Then he got his hand cut off...
Thanks!

The US Rich Getting Richer Than Ever - Moar Tax Cuts please!

That the 10% plutocrats have managed to get the feeble minded (let's be honest) to vote for tax breaks for millionaires is an amazing hoodwinking.
those 10% plutocrats own a very large megaphone, they also have purchased PR to change the perception of the common person to further their own self-interest but i wont go as far to call these people "feeble-minded" but rather just victims of propaganda, which employs fear rhetoric to appeal or incite irrational emotions rather than a critical and reasoned conclusion based on facts.
i truly believe that if people were given the correct information they would make a reasonable decision but that is not what people are being given and while the information is out there..you have to look for it and it seems many are STILL giving american news media authority to inform them, when for us it has become obvious that american journalism has failed at every level to critically question and report for many a year now.
interesting anecdote.
i was talking to a self=proclaimed "tea-partier" who was attempting to convince me of the evils of social security.she hit all the key talking points:"entitlement","non-sustainable" and how we have to either do away with it all together to reduce the deficit (which is a non-issue,SS has nothing to do with the deficit)or to "privatize" it (which is what wall street has wet dreams over).
the irony of this story is that SHE receives social security benefits!
my response was if she felt that strongly about the issue the next SS check she got she should tear up in protest.
she called me a satanist and a few other choice words and stormed off.
seems irony is lost on some people.
my point to all this is simply:would this woman have reacted the same way if she had all the pertinent information?
Cenk Uygur (TYT) on MSNBC - Mosque near Ground Zero
You are one hateful fucker... Why just Islam though? Do you need to be reminded of the long and bloody trail Christianity has carved through history? And even today it is responsible for some of the most shocking acts of violence and bigotry. Religions suck, but that doesn't mean you have any right to deny it of people. And standing on the side lecturing about a subject you know nothing of only shows ignorance...

islam--properly observed--tolerates no other faiths. muslims kill atheists and other unbelievers. muslims do not adapt to other cultures, they conquer them by deception and murder, methods sanctioned by the quran. The handful of "moderate Muslims"--who are not behind building this affront to decency--are to eventually be slaughtered as traitors. And the liberal, who claims to hate fascism, turns a blind eye to 13 centuries of muslim mayhem to defend a Constitution s/he only obeys when convenient.
Buddhists aren't sending suicide bombers into crowded malls. Satanists aren't shooting up American Army bases. We're at war with muslim values, a war we didn't choose, just like all the other nations and cultures which didn't choose to be invaded over the centuries.
There is no possible way for any culture to live in harmony with muslims, any more than it is possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
You say you want peace? They don't. Stop pretending these vermin are just another sect of Quakers!

Laura Ingraham vs. Devout Atheist
Yes, I think it's moronic to post billboards against religion. Even if it does advance your cause a few percent, it's not worth the strife. It's plain disrespectful. Not to mention hypocritical. Just live your own reasonable life and let memetics win in the end.
I am relegated to using the word atheist because on a purely semantic level, that's what I am. Unfortunately, most people (even most self-proclaimed atheists, but particularly religious people) cannot see that it's just a word for someone who doesn't believe in any gods. They see that "ist" on the end of the word and think it's akin to being a communist or satanist or objectivist or cubist. In other words they think there MUST be a pernicious agenda attached to the label. And mismatched agendas, or the perception thereof, are the cause of most of the pain and hurt in this world. I don't want to control anyone or even proselytize against religion. If everyone would be cool then everyone could be cool. Atheist as a word is uncommon in that virtually all other commonly used "ist" words are describing what a group DOES believe or DOES practice.
Militant atheism, dogmatic atheism, practicing atheism of any kind is ludicrous and shows one does not get it.
Christopher Hitchens and Stephen Fry Debate Catholics
>> ^ponceleon:
I really liked Fry's analogy of the Catholic church's obsession with sex to that of food with anorexic or the morbidly obese.
As for the topic at hand... I really am not that interested in this level of minutiae. Those of you who know me from posting here know that I really don't see much of a difference between Catholics, Protestants, Scientologist, Satanists, and Zoroastrians. It is all just some stuff made up by some guy (usually a guy, except in very rare occasions) to control and tell others what to believe. No religion has any proof that they are right, anyone who claims they do is about as trustworthy as someone who says they are Napoleon.
There are two major problems here.
First, it's not possible to say that all religions are something that "some guy" made up. For a great many religions--Hinduism, Judaism, and Shinto are good examples--there is not one single individual one can trace the religion to. Rather, they seem to have arisen organically, on the basis of the agreement and common practice of communities and tribes. If they arose to control people, it was not the action of a single autocrat, but the same kind norm creation that goes on in any community.
Second, not all religions make onerous demands on belief. Again, Hinduism and Shinto are good examples. While particular schools of Hinduism may demand assent to certain beliefs, one may hold nearly any set of beliefs and be a good Hindu, so long as one meets a baseline set of behavioral norms. There are even atheist schools of thought. (There is even a patron god of atheism, strangely enough. Attributed to it by other schools of thought, of course.) Much the same is true of Shinto, though it is less philosophically sophisticated--atheism may not be as acceptable, but there is room for a great diversity of opinion.
Before Christianity and Islam, in fact, this non-belief-centric approach to religion was the norm everywhere Judea and a few Zoroastrian communities. The notion that religion demands belief is not the norm in human society--only in Christian and Muslim society.

Why do people who do believe in God insist they love him so much? Frankly, if I were to believe in the Bible, I'd probably be a Satanist as God is a waaaaaaaay bigger prick.
(He's a troll, rottenseed, he doesn't need it to have any relevance or even make much sense. "Che"? That's like calling shortening "The Lord" to just "The".)
