Quantum, can you restrict your quotes to the video you're watching, or at least provide a source to your quotes? Or maybe quit being a part of the propaganda machine you try so hard to pretend you're not a part of...

Mine was merely a fine summary of this nudnik's "powerful" speech. Or did he not start with Godwin?

Glenn Beck is a businessman who has to sell advertising to stay on the air? Amazing. Unlike Leg-thrill Matthews or Oldberminn or Ste-wart or Colbare?

You "freethinkers" really want to argue about who is drowning in propaganda? The Right has Fox (which I don't watch anyway) but here's a partial list of YOUR left-wing propaganda machine, which did the world a favor by 'coming out' in 2008 and openly joining Obama's election campaign. They were/are free to do so as I am free to call them on it.

THE (partial) LIST

* Media Matters (feeds most of these "credible" media their talking points)
* The old Big 3 networks: ABC, MS-DNC, CBS
* CNN
* Comedy central (talk about nightly propaganda!)
* Air America radio (bankrupt)
* NPR - (MY tax dollars spread YOUR lies! Beck does his thing on his OWN dime)
* Most newspapers besides the WSJ
* Magazine fluff like TIME and Newsweak
* HuffPo
* Hollywood's "product"
* Most of the crap on tv
* Most "rebellious" musical acts

And remember, unionized government school teachers are biased in favor of (drumroll) MOAR BIGGER GUVMINT!

Of course, I could be imagining things. It's not like a singer slipped in a message to OBAMA during the Superbowl half-time show.

Now even with all that relentless liberal brainwashing, slightly over half of Americans still identify themselves as conservative. Wow! It's almost like the one-third of peeps working and supporting the other two-thirds don't want to work for Uncle S(c)am from January to August!

So what are these 'radical' Tea Party ideas that keep the left up at night?

Obeying the Constitution's limits on government power
Stopping confiscatory taxation
Stopping runaway spending
Government Accountability
Controlling the borders

For all I know, I'm the only "resistance" you meet all day to liberal brainwashing. How 'bout a hug?

Ice Cube - Who's The Mack

MrFisk says...

Who's the mack? is it some brother in a big hat
Thinking he can get any bitch with a good rap?
Rolling in a fucked-up Lincoln
Leaning to the side So it looks like he's sinking
Into that leopard interior
This nigga thinks every girl's inferior
To his tongue, get a dumb bitch sprung
As she's selling more butt
Don't even get a cut of the money
His name is Sonny
And he know the play
And hope to od that he don't find a runaway
That's looking to become a star
He'll have your ass in and out of every car
With every on and Rick, sucking every john's dick
Come short of the money, get your ass kicked
You don't like it but you still call him hunk
Last night the nigga put yo' ass in the trunk
You wanna leave but Sonny started talking fast
And it make you wanna go and sell more ass
He's getting rich, you his bitch and it's like that
Now ask yourself
Who's the mack?
Who's the mack?

It is that fool that wanna pump the gas
Give you a sad story and you give him cash?
He starts macking and macking and you sucking
Quick to say I'm down on my luck
And you give a dollar or a quarter and he's on his way
Then you see his sorry ass the next day
Are you the one getting played like a sucka?
Or do you say, "Get a job, motherfucker"?
Every day, the story gets better
He's wearing dirty pants and a funky-assed sweater
He claims he wants to get something to eat
But every day you find yourself getting beat
He gets your money and you run across the street don't look both ways
'cause he's in a daze
And almost get his ass hit for the crack
Now ask yourself
Who's the mack?
Who's the Mack?

Is it that nigga in that club asking
Have you ever been in a hot tub?
I know the game so I watch it unfold
When i see the boy pinned to your earlobe
He's talking shit and you crack a smile
When he tell you that he can go buck wild
For a girl like you and make it feel good
You know it's drama but it sound real good
He started dragging and hopefully he can start tagging
The pussy so he can keep bragging
He say, "I'm 'a leave baby, can you go with me?"
The pussy so he can keep bragging
You wanna do it but you feeling like a H-O-E
You grab his hand, you leave and it's over
'Cause the nigga ain't nothing but a rover
Ya knew the game and you still ended up on your back
Now ask yourself
Who's the Mack?
Macking is the game and everybody's playing
And as long as you believe what they saying
Consider the a M.A.C.K. and with no delay
They are gonna get all the play
But when it comes to me, save the drama for your momma
It's Ice Cube and you know that I'm a
Mack in my own right
When it comes to rhyme and rap
'cause all i do is kick facts
Unlike Iceberg Slimm
And all of them be claimin' be P.I.M.P.
No, I'm not going out that way
I'm just a straight up N I double G A
Next time U get over on a fool
And you did the shit like real smooth
Thank Ice Cube for giving up the facts
And ask yourself
Who's the Mack?

Amazing Footage: Is The Gulf Sea Floor About To Explode?

budzos says...

"Giant methane bubbles" is the "medical marijuana" of the methane clathrate gun hypothesis issue. Meaning, there is a HUGE danger looming from the thawing of frozen methane in the oceans. But every fucking Alex Jones nitwit on the planet is now going on about huge methane bubbles causing spectacular tsunamis... tsunamis are not the fucking issue! Giant bubbles are not the issue!

Gradually accelerating thaw of methane clathrates on the contintental shelves creating a runaway upwards trend in global temperatures is the danger... methane is like CO2 on steroids.

Anyways, this video, my third reason today to despise most people (and their tendency to see what they want to see).

"Treme" -- Hurricaine Katrina Tourism (POWERFUL scene)

griefer_queafer says...

Well-put! Thanks a lot for the clarification, timtoner. Your comment reminded me of a book I read recently: "Playing Indian," which tells a kind of history of this country as seen through the ways in which people have 'played out' the 'role' or adopted the 'image' of first nation people.

Anyway, your point is well-taken. I do think that one of the really complicated components of this scene is the fact that we encounter two instances of 'tourism' in it: one is a sort of 'cultural' tourism, while the other could have no better name than 'disaster' tourism (the latter of course being problematic in perhaps much more obvious ways).

>> ^timtoner:

This might be a touchy point, but giving this video a 'native' 'american' tag is a bit of a stretch, and 'first' 'nation' is right out. The New Orleans Indians are a wonderful adaptation of African culture to a new setting. They adopt the name and general aesthetic as gratitude for all that the Aboriginal Americans did for runaway slaves during the antebellum period. The elaborateness of their costumes came in direct response to Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show passing through the area in the 1880s.
Still, a powerful scene.

Southern Avenger - Are Tea Partiers Racist?

NetRunner says...

@marinara, watched it again, and again, the conclusion of the video is "the only people who are concerned about race are racists (over picture of KKK with hoods), and liberals (over picture of Frank Rich)".

He also makes the argument that it's impossible to talk to liberals because they keep making imaginary or irrelevant arguments -- like accusing people who made this picture of being racists, and asking Tea Party organizers and Republicans to condemn it, I guess.

My own counterargument is to say that the right's confusion a) is disingenuous since there are tons of clear examples of racist imagery and commentary from the right, b) conservatives don't ever quite summon up the courage to actually discourage other conservatives for using racist imagery or comments, and c) they hardly ever apologize for offending anyone, and in fact usually demagogue about runaway liberal political correctness if anyone suggests they do so.

I also think he fundamentally misses the point of liberal accusations of racism. We are not trying to shut down rational debate (as you say), nor are we trying to fan the flames of racial sentiment (as Southern Avenger says), instead we are saying that the right's insensitivity to these issues are a problem, and we want to have a rational debate about it, but they refuse to ever admit anything anyone on the right does might be racist.

Even Southern Avenger can't quite bring himself to just say "Yes, some of the people at tea parties have said racist things", and instead goes into this thing where he ponders whether any tea partier has ever said anything racist, and says "perhaps, but for the sake of argument, let's say some have", and then launches into why this is understandable because protesters by their very nature are going to be emotional, as if using racial epithets is something we all do when we're mad about government policy.

I was trying to be too meta when I talked about political strategy. I'm mad and offended (still) about that witch doctor Obama picture. The guy who sent it out apologized, but denied it was racist, and blamed Democrats for drawing attention to it by complaining about it (seriously). Republicans never really said much about it, and the guy didn't lose his job or anything.

Shit like that works as a wedge issue, it helps sort out the racists and racist apologists on one side, and the people offended by racism on the other side. It wouldn't work as a wedge issue if there wasn't a political party that took up the racist apologist half of the divide. If it didn't work as a wedge issue, liberals probably wouldn't make such a big deal about it since both sides would quickly condemn it, and there wouldn't be any big fuss. We don't like racism in any case, but we start seeing red when we see it being defended. That's my point.

How To Stop A Runaway Toyota Prius - The NSFW Way

jimnms says...

I haven't paid much attention to any of this runaway Toyota stuff, but the first thing I though was why don't people put their car in neutral or shut it off. I've never driven a Prius, but after seeing this video I can now see how one can get away from you.

Everything is electronic, the shifter has no physical connection to the transmission, it just sends a signal to the computer to tell the transmission to go into neutral. The power button doesn't physically disconnect the power to shut down the car, it just tells the computer to shut off. What happens when the electronics fuck up? You can try to shift into neutral, but if your toy gear shifter doesn't sent the signal to the computer, it's never going to shift into neutral.

CEO of Toyota on Letterman

40_Minus_1 says...

Oh, come on, now. Nobody is wondering if that's the real guy. It's got the comedy and parody tags stamped right on it. Why break balls?>> ^BoneyD:
Firstly, Dave, the floormats were NEVER a problem. That was an excuse used by Toyota to not look in to spending the money on a recall. I can't believe he just parroted that... or was that part of the satire? Seems to me you should at least in some way acknowledge the lie.
And that Prius driver in California may very likely have faked it:

ars-trucks/daily-news/100312-Could-Runaway-Prius-Have-Been-Faked-/
But I can understand not wanting to speak against the guy, lest he attract a libel case.
Although I can acknowledge some comedic timing in this bit, it just safely plays on stereotypes from pre-1950. That's really the best you can do?
(Oh btw if people are wondering, that's not the real Toyoda Akio. )

How To Stop A Runaway Toyota Prius - The NSFW Way

NetRunner says...

>> ^braindonut:
This video is amusing, for sure... I laughed.
But the design of the Prius shifter is absolutely horrible. And with the fact that you have to hold the power button down for 3 seconds to turn it off... Also a horrible design. So his point, though amusing, is kinda moot.

This is a good design. I don't want my Prius to shift into neutral if someone taps the shifter while the car is moving. I don't want my transmission to fly apart if someone pushes the Park button, or tries to put the shifter in reverse while I'm on the highway. I don't want my car to go dead if the power button is tapped while the car is in motion.

I also don't want to have my Prius use a lame-ass mechanical key that you twist, or have a big metal bar that locks in place for the shifter.

They shouldn't base the entire control design around the procedures you might need if your accelerator gets stuck.

Personally, I think if the media wants to make themselves useful, they should be telling people this procedure for stopping their Prius. They also should start being a bit honest about how rare it really is, and stop acting like the problem must be electronic throttle control systems themselves.
