Mandolorian Season 2 Trailer

Digitalfiend says...

My understanding is that The Mandalorian is set 5 yrs after RotJ. So T-65s should definitely be around. Plus, unless I'm mistaken, the Mandalorian looks like he is going to visit Tatooine & Hoth (so now I'm hyped for this season). I wonder if we'll get to see a Wampa and/or Tauntaun.

Looks good, but I don't think the T-65 X-Wings were around at this point in history, unless it's part of some future vision or something.

Mr. Plinkett Talks About Rogue One

Arnouth says...

Mr. Plinckett is right as usual. I watched it in IMAX 3D yesterday, but didn't feel immersed into the story all that much. While watching it I couldn't help but think that a panel of Disney marketing geniuses meticulously thought out what we wanted to see, to guess our expectations, more than the brain child of someone with a vision, with a true story to tell. The girl-that-every-girl-wants-to-be with great athletic prowess and wit as the main character to try and get women to go and see it. The two popular Chinese actors were obviously there to appeal to the ever more important Chinese market. Nostalgic re-enactment (or pre-enactment?) of the ROTJ final battle. Darth Vader! Tarkin! The Death Star! There's someone and/or something for everybody in this movie. Maximum appeal to go and see it.

I think all characters did have potential, but there wasn't any time for them to really come alive, as we were introduced to too many locations and too many people. On the topic of coming alive, resurrected Peter Cushing was very clearly stuck deep into uncanny valley, and watching him was a little... morbid I think.

Like with the Force Awakens, I left the cinema not really unsatisfied, but not really happy either. Just kind of... okay. That was something all pre-Disney SW films did way better for me.

TIE Fighter - Epic Anime short - Go Empire!!

MilkmanDan says...

Nope. I have been a big Star Wars fan since I was a young kid (not quite old enough to have seen ANH or ESB in theaters, but I did see RotJ on the big screen, plus of course watching them all on TV many many times growing up) but somehow I missed out on those games.

Quick google shows Wing Commander 1 as 1990, Wing Commander 3 at 1994, TIE Fighter also in 1994, and X-Wing Alliance in 1999. I played those Wing Commander games (and others), and played a lot of Star Wars games during that span, including stuff like Shadows of the Empire and Rogue Squadron for N64. But somehow the X-Wing and TIE Fighter stuff stayed off my radar at the time.

Should I check GOG?

Dude, not even X-Wing Alliance?

Star Wars the Force awakens official teaser

lv_hunter says...

The briefest explanation, seeing stormtroopers doesn't mean they're clones. They're still the foremost troops for the empire. The lore is a lot differnet now since disney took the rights, all post ROTJ canon has changed now, or basically not canon anymore.

And for the Falcon, freighters have atmospheric maneuverability, though the Falcon is highly modified anyway.

sixshot said:

Wait, storm/clone troopers? Those are still in use? Ah fudge it. Don't bother explaining it to me. I'm not overly attached to the whole lore of the SW universe.

Looks cool. Not impressed that the Falcon would fly so low to the surface. X-Wing fighters, tho... that's another story.

All Six Star Wars Movies

Fletch says...

This RotJ has the awful Hayden Christensen replacement for Anakin at the end. I hope the Disney movies are able to redeem this series somewhat. I can't imagine them being worse than what Lucas did with the prequels. Start with casting. The Anakins were just horrible in the prequels. And JarJar... wtf?

1983 Maria Shriver Interviews Mark Hamill for ROTJ movie.

Trancecoach says...

haha! I thought you were joking!

It's too bad they didn't bring Mark back for the prequels in 2004... or that his jaunt into stage acting didn't earn him the respect he sought.

Still, this is an interesting, albeit chincey, retrospective on an old saga.>> ^Tokoki:

Anybody else spot the soft porn video this was taped over at the end?

Kid reacts to 'Empire Strikes Back' reveal!!!!

rex84 says...

And this is why we ended up with little teddy bears in ROTJ instead of bad-ass wookies. Too many parents freaked out about how "dark" ESB was and sent him hate mail.

jatoha says...

I saw this in the theater and I didn't believe Darth Vader. I thought he was lying.

It kind of pisses me off that I had this reaction because I didn't have that shocking reveal moment. It was more of a "yeah, right, liar." And then, the couple year wait while I figured it would be revealed in RotJ that he was lying and then: oh. well. I guess he wasn't lying. huh.

BTW, that video with Jabba is deceptive - I don't think the original human Jabba ever made it to cinemas - that scene was cut.

The Jabba scene with the human was never in any one of the film releases. But they've changed the CGI Jabba from the Special Editions twice. And none of them look like the ROTJ original muppet Jabba.

Well then the obvious answer is that they have to re-make the ROTJ jabba with CGI.

placing bets now, 2017 re-re-re-release will have CGI jabba in Jedi.

Fuck You, George Lucas!

ponceleon jokingly says...

Well, allow me to be the devil's advocate and say that now Vader is consistenly awful from the moment of the first "Noooooooooo" at the end of Ep III to this newly added "Noooooo."

Similar to the new ghost at the end of ROTJ... Vader never looked like the old guy.

Okay okay, I'm just trying to be sarcastic... this is fucking terrible.

What I Am Legend would have looked like with non-CG monsters

quantumushroom says...

Hells yes. Bet you don't even remember that Jabba the Hutt was briefly seen in The Phantom Menace.

Watching the animatronic Jabba in ROTJ you can "feel" his weight just by watching him.

But, the march of progress...Avatar sucked, but that CG was a triumph.

>> ^Sagemind:

I'm so completely tired of CG characters. I believe that's partialy what killed the Star Wars Experience in the new films.
When I was a kid, the magic came from the behind the scenes making of sets, ships and creatures. The CGI aliens just don't have that tangent real feeling. Sure they make a great stand in and I understand certain things just can't be done in reality but use the real Creature Creation wherever possible.
Use the green screen for sets and for group or far shots but at close up, Use Real.
Imagine if all the Orcs in LOTR were CGI. Sure they used CGI but they had a hell of a lot of actual guys in makeup and costume to sell it as well. I know, Gollum was CGI, wouldn't have been my choice but they did put a lot of effort into him.
I believe with today's technology for Real effects, Creature Creation (and added CGI where needed), they could make far more convincing characters where we would identify with them emotionally as well as visually.
