Sexual Assault of Men Played for Laughs

BSR says...

Level up.

GAMING
(especially in a role-playing game) progress to the next level.
"you can collect runes and use them as you level up to increase the power of your weapons"
(in a role-playing game) advance one's character to the next level of development.
"build your army, level up your hero, purchase equipment, and challenge your friends to massive battles"

I'm very simply meaning that making jokes about horrible things like rape and murder isn't automatically endorsing them, and that depending on context the jokes can make the problem better, worse or somewhere in between.

Thanks all!

My nick is a silly one - a name I made for a character in a role playing game, to show that it was a "savage" character. It has stuck with me as a gaming nick from time to time.

But hey - doesn't this being imply that I could make a channel of my own?

*nordic/scandinavia, *sorrow/sadness, *waitforit, *doublewtf, *somethingelse?

becoming belle knox-duke university porn star

draak13 says...

This was absolutely incredible! Many late bloomers have an incredibly important 'coming out of their shell' experience, and it's often when they role play as a person with higher confidence. It's a transforming experience that imbues high self-confidence and esteem onto the individual, when these were typically dwindling traits beforehand. I've known several (self included) who experienced this by either internet games or old fashioned role playing games. It's very interesting that she found this role play experience by creating an alter ego as a porn star. She even found solace for her previous sexual baggage. I learned a hell of a lot from this, and won't be viewing the porn industry the same way again. Despite many of the evils in the industry that she hinted at in this series, this is an incredibly great thing that she pulled from it, and is obviously even more valuable than the ostracizing she's experiencing because of it.

I also hope that she knows a bachelor's in sociology qualifies her for no skilled labor jobs. She better either go to grad school, or get some real skills...otherwise, porn really is her career, and it only lasts as long as her looks. It's good that she's not going into debt for that degree.

But really, I'd love to see an RPG where a max-level veteran is statistically only 3-5 times stronger than a completely fresh noob. But realistically, I know that the only way that system can work is in an open-world sandbox style game, and those seem to be rapidly falling out of favor. A pity, at least to my tastes.

It's interesting that this sort of progression seems to be part of every genre *but* RPGs. In Zelda 2, for instance, you can only double your health and magic. You grow a bit more powerful as the game continues, but you can still be killed by scrubs if you're not careful.

I don't know if you're into tabletop role playing games, but Legend of the Five Rings exhibits this sort of growth. Even combat masters are only statistically two or three times more hardy than a commoner, though they have special techniques they've trained over their lifetime. Even so, a group of five or six starting characters could cut them down in most cases. It's interesting to look at and fun to play, but as it's a tabletop RPG, it does fall into the category of open world.

Amazing new Dragon Age DLC!!

The Morrigan-slapping reminds me of what good role playing games are like--a world where you're free to turn a situation on its head and see what results. Bad role playing games are ones that remove your ability to choose and force characters into your party even after they subtly insult you for a minute straight.

The Game of Life demo

Memorare says...

Back in the early days of emergent behavior and cellular automata (Gödel, Escher, Bach) there was talk of applying these ideas to npcs in role playing games - apply a few very simple rules to a few very simple personality traits to produce rich unpredictable interactions that ebb and flow across the game world.

No one seems to be working on this any more.

Yes, I agree, what the Hell IS up with the game industry and Africa?

Because we already done all them other places:
Germany, Ukraine, New York City, LA, The Blue Mosque, Hell: First-person shooters
Middle Earth, a lot of places roughly modeled after medieval Europe, radioactive wastelands: role playing games.
The 9th level of hell, a godless place seen as an unending sea of child molesters and furries: Peggle.
So Africa was all we had left over. And Antarctica. But who wants endless random encounters with Leopard Seals and bored NOAA meteorologists?

Gunship 2000 also had an expansion where you flew choppers in Antarctica. Ah white-outs. Awesome.

Zero Punctuation Review: The Witcher

RedSky says...

I suspect you haven't played it very much because there are a broad range of bombs and potions you can utilise, yes you only essentially have 5 skill spells but that means you're not restricted to only using the abilities you've levelled. Okay the variety of abilities is not as broad as say Guild Wars, but it's not a MMORPG, it's a role playing game in the sense it focuses on developing a storyline that gives you genuine choice, something that GW lacks on the other hand.

Ultimately I think you were just expecting something else from the game, particularly the fighting system but that comes down to personal preference. I don't think you can deny it's sufficiently involving though.
