Ennio Morricone - Il Clan dei Siciliani

Farhad2000 says...

Ennio Morricone (born November 10, 1928) is an Italian composer especially noted for his film scores. He has composed the scores of more than 500 films and TV series. Although only 30 of these are for Western films, it is for this work which he is best known.

Morricone's sparse style of composition for the genre is particularly exemplified by the soundtracks of the classic spaghetti westerns The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Sergio Leone, 1966) and Once Upon a Time in the West (Sergio Leone, 1968). In more recent years, his haunting scores for The Mission (Roland Joffé, 1986), The Untouchables (Brian DePalma, 1987), Cinema Paradiso (Giuseppe Tornatore, 1988), and Lolita (Adrian Lyne, 1997) have demonstrated his giftedness and the power of his work.

He is also credited as Dan Savio. He will receive the Honorary Academy Award in 2007, only the second film composer to be so honored.

JEFF MILLS: The Exhibitionist Mix

Farhad2000 says...

Jeff Mills is an influential African-American Techno DJ and producer from Detroit. His albums and EPs are mostly separate tracks of his compositions, which Mills would mix into the live DJ sets for which he became a legend. Mills has been credited for his exceptional turntable skills. Tracks are almost chopped to bits to showcase the strongest fragments for his relentless sound collages.

Three decks, a Roland 909 drum-machine and seventy records in one hour: at breakneck speed Mills manipulates beats and basslines, vinyl and frequencies. The live album Mix-Up Volume 2 is a highly-regarded example of Mills' 1990's stage show (recorded at the Liquid Room in Tokyo). For a later live show (in 2004) try the 'Exhibitionist' album, of which this is a live mix.

I heard the Bells years ago from AudioGalaxy, and 2 years back I saw him live at Aria in Montreal for the first time and he totally blew my mind. One of my fav. Techno DJs.

Plastikman - Plastique (Trippy Hypnotic Video)

djsunkid says...

Interesting bit of trivia, one of the reasons that this track is remarkable is that is shows off Richie using his brand new Devilfish modified 303 that was sent to him by the creator in 1994.

Back in the early nineties crazy technoheads in Australia went absolutely berzerk, drilling a dozen tiny holes in the faceplate of their Roland TB303. They hacked the circuitry and more than doubled the number of knobs and switchs. Suddenly the quirky, liquid sound of the TB303 is even more eccentric than ever before.

The 303 is just smoking me . . We've never heard
anything like it . . just freaking out and literally bouncing
off the walls shouting 'Yeah! Yeah! This is what we want! This
is what we want!'"

Then I designed some circuit boards and a front panel so I
could do the modifications properly. The first one was my own
303 - which later went to Richie Hawtin. This is serial number
-001.

That's right, they loved it so much, they sent it to their favourite 303 wizard, Richie Hawtin, AKA Plastikman. The very first, and only one in the world. Serial number -001. Negative One.

This track is what Richie came up with. So hot!

Currently the idea of drilling holes in your 303 is terrifying. They are fetishized and totally collectors items. If you want a devilfish, you have to send your 303 to Australia and pay them to mod yours. They are so hard to find that they have sold for over $1000 on eBay. Sometimes WELL more. And this is for an instrument that has essentially one sound.

...

But what a sound.
