Fuck You, George Lucas!

spoco2 says...

>> ^RFlagg:

Well, these are changes to the Special Editions correct? The original versions, also on the set, are still unaltered are they not?

No... NO!

That's the WHOLE problem. The originals ARE NOT on the set. They released them ONCE on DVD (which I bought) as 'special features' along side the special editions.

But guess what they did? They got the dirtiest, worst possible quality prints for the original version and THEN did not present them on dvd as anamorphic. Meaning that if you watch it on a widescreen tv you have to find your settings somewhere to zoom it in and stretch it out. And, of course, that means that
a) It's a pain in the arse, so you never watch them
and
b) They are as low resolution as humanly possible.

He did it to fuck with us.
'Here... here's the old versions you've whinged about... here you go, they're on DVD'
'Um, they are just horrible quality and tiny on my screen, and... I can't watch those'
'Well, watch the lovely Special Editions I forced you buy alongside them then, they're much nicer quality'
'Oh fuck you'

And there will NOT be any versions other than the 'special' editions on the Blu Rays.

Hence, no purchase from me.

I don't give a crap how much he wants to muck around with his movies, but you should ALWAYS be able to get them in their original form in as high quality as possible as well. But he won't do that, because he knows people would rather watch the originals, which would just confirm all the shit he's added to them is unwanted rubbish.

Blade runner shows how to do it right. 5, FIVE versions of the movie on the Blu Ray release I have, all fantastic quality. Watch the original release, or watch Ridley's final cut... YOU have the choice. If you like the voice over, watch it that way and still in wonderful quality.

Robot Chicken: Final Fantasy 7: The Fast Food Industry

What gives you more pleasure, Final Fantasy or Robot Chicken ? @kceaton1

If I could have both at the same time like this, it would be completely obvious.

Otherwise, it's Robot Chicken. Now if we could create a videogame-Robot Chicken-Spielberg/Lucas/Nolan/James Cameron/Ridley/Peter Jackson/Guillermo del Toro /Joss Whedon (to keep the others on the up & up) and then Hans Zimmer/Williams (I know)/Jerry Goldsmith/Trent Reznor/Cliff Martinez/ & Dennis McCarthy for sound. Lot's of the people involved would innately clean up mistakes (like Lucas at some point; for example).

It would be the best thing ever...

Sigourney Weaver on the Alien Prequel

It can't be worse than the fourth movie. I can't believe she agreed to do that mess. I didn't see it in the theatre, as I heard it sucked. I pirated it years later on a goof, and I was pissed I wasted the bandwidth.

Alien Resurrection was a damn shame because Jean-Pierre Jeunet directed it and it still sucked. I think the franchise is doomed. Taking on an Alien movie should come with a "do not want" sign. But I guess if anyone can do it, Ridley Scott can.

Zero Punctuation Review: Assassin's Creed

therealblankman says...

Just got around to finally playing the PC version of this game. An amazing achievement worthy of any historical Hollywood A-list film produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Ridley Scott, but like so many said historical Hollywood films they left out 2 fundamental things:

A) Any sense of narrative coherence
B) It was no fun at all.

The Death of Roy Batty (Blade Runner)

I remember from a making of Bladerunner, that Rutger Hauer (roy) wrote these lines on his own and presented them to Ridley Scott just to see what he thought. Ridley immediately was touched by the poetry he used it instead of the standard scripted lines.

Anyone Seen "Moon" (Scifi Talk Post)

therealblankman says...

It's fantastic, a sci-fi movie for real sci-fi fans. Rockwell turns in a great performance, and Zowie Bowie has officially announced himself as a Director to be reckoned with. The special effects are done using old-school in camera techniques, like Ridley Scott used in Aliens. Seeing it makes one realize how much CGI sucks.

NATIONAL BLACK POLICE ASSOCIATION STATEMENT
PRESS RELEASE
SHOOTING DEATH OF OFFICER OMAR EDWARDS

MAY 29, 2009, 1127 AM

The shooting death of NYC Officer Omar Edwards may be only hours old; however, the known facts thus far combined with the police experience possessed by members of the National Black Police Association (NBPA) reveal that the shooter, Officer Andrew Dutton, was reckless and shot without identifying himself as a policeman and worse, failing to give Officer Edwards a chance to drop his weapon. As has been the case in all shootings of black officers by white officers ---by example the shooting of Officer Ridley in Westchester and the shooting of Officer Young in Providence, the shooting officers recklessly mistake black officers to be criminals and then commence fire without warning. This shoot first and ask questions later behavior clashes with the caution and protocol that we as police officers are supposed to undertake when confronting individuals with guns. Furthermore, consider that coroner’s report shows that Edwards was shot in the back. Consider that Dutton’s weapon is limited to a three round burst. Six to seven rounds were fired. This means that Dutton pulled the trigger at least twice. By the end of the first burst—Dutton had to know he was aiming at a man’s back and wrongfully firing his weapon. Two other officers were with Dutton, yet Dutton was the only shooter. Lastly, after Dutton shot Edwards----Edwards was handcuffed and lay dying in his blood. The officers rendered no assistance to their dying black comrade. It was not until the paramedics arrived that Edwards was tended to. Without significant efforts by the New York City Police Department to cause officers to be more open minded, there will be many more black officers killed by fellow officers.
