the story of your decade in 3 paragraphs or less (History Talk Post)
Ten years ago I was 19 and a born-again, holy-rolling Christian. Worked in an automotive factory making parts for the Toyota Camry. You may be driving a faulty Camry at this moment. Sorry if you die. I was a bad employee and was let go.
Nine years ago I was living in my birth town near Mt. Rushmore, lazily pretending to work in a lumber yard as I lost my religion under the watchful eyes of George Carlin, Rene Descartes and my own sense of logic. I moved back to my home state and promptly watched my grandmother die of a heart attack.
Eight years ago I was working in an injection molding plant, getting tattooed and listening to Slipknot while the towers fell. I laughed while watching them fall, because it looked like a movie. Don't let Michael Bay film a tragedy.
Seven years ago I was working under the Golden Arches, getting tattooed and arrested. No conviction, though. If the glove don't fit...
Six years ago I was moving to the City of Trees for a girl. Yeah, I know...
Five years ago I watched Bush get re-elected, and thought about Rage Against the Machine lyrics.
Four years ago I watched the girl move out of my apartment a week after I started college. Somehow I failed that semester.
Three years ago I started making sandwiches and pretended to enjoy the company of customers. I may have also gotten laid that year at some point. I think.
Two years ago I still made sandwiches, but I quit school because the American education system is ridiculous.
One year ago I worked for the Evil Empire of Mr. Sam Walton and lived with a bunch of vegan hipsters. WTF was I thinking?
This year I started by walking out of Wally World and into the land of unemployment and living in a friend's house while I got back on my feet. (Which means I'm making sandwiches again.)
In between all of those I read halves of interesting books, wrote halves of my own interesting books, wrote halves of interesting pieces of music, memorized numbers, found number patterns, made friends, lost friends, smoked the occasional joint, smoked the occasional cigarette, drank too much, lost a few thousand dollars in poker and spent too much time on Facebook and Videosift, from which I've been banned two or three times.
Edit: Somewhere in there I watched my mother try to commit suicide twice. Forgot about that.
Three Minute Philosophy: Rene Descartes
Rene Descartes walks into a bar. The Bartender asks him, "how about a beer?"
"I think not," replies Rene. POOF! he disappears...
Bachelors Of Science - People Together

Wow, awesome sift, thank you! Rene stole the show. Anne wasn't quite to my taste, but yes, she did work hard. This was a great song + viewing experience You will not be banned! Don't worry.

i wasn't commenting so much on atrocities they've done but the fact that the whole organization from the very bottom to the very top is structured to encourage and cover up these crimes.
and the fact that US Gov't still support this organization
and the fact that there is no measurable public outcry against blackwater or gov't officials that are not acting stop this.
this country needs some of that sense of responsibility and shame that is so common in japan's society.
90% of our elected officials should commit public seppuku.
The whole organization from the very bottom to the top is structured to encourage and cover up these crimes? You mean like how the American government itself tries to cover up things like the My Lai massacre in Vietnam, or it's use of biological weapons in Korea (those brave few who protested were condemned were and persecuted: McCarthyism at its finest during the height of the cold war), or tried to cover up the whole Iran-Contra affair (Where the US sold Iran weapons and gave the funds to the Contra guerrillas in Nicaragua, who used American funded weapons to commit countless atrocities) or the army's use of torture in the current Iraqi war?
And sense of shame and responsibility that is common in Japan's society? You mean like how the doctors of Unit 731 who performed live vivisection on prisoners and civilians with no anesthesia, who viewed non-japanese civilians as nothing better than "logs" to test on, and how these doctors were not charged with war crimes and went back into Japanese society and lead successful careers afterward? And how so many Japanese people, including influential politicians are vocal deniers of war crimes committed by the Japanese army (that whole section was censored out of Japanese school curriculum)? Or like how Issei Sagawa, who murdered and ate Renee Hartevelt, a Dutch exchange student in Paris, is a celebrity and a free man in Japan, and makes a living from his infamy? Shame and denial are not mutually exclusive.
I'm saying this kind of corruption and coverup, and this kind of public apathy, is hardly unique to America, and is hardly a new phenomenon. It's ubiquitous. Seriously, Blackwater is one of the least things to be ashamed about in our history.

descartes says "i think not" and disappears.
Belle & Sebastian "Piazza, New York Catcher"
Elope with me Miss Private and we'll sail around the world
I will be your Ferdinand and you my wayward girl
How many nights of talking in hotel rooms can you take?
How many nights of limping round on pagan holidays?
Oh elope with me in private and we'll set something ablaze
A trail for the devil to erase
San Francisco's calling us, the Giants and Mets will play
Piazza, New York catcher, are you straight or are you gay?
We hung about the stadium, we've got no place to stay
We hung about the tenderloin and tenderly you tell
About the saddest book you ever read
that always makes you cry
The statue's crying too and well he may
I love you I've a drowning grip on your adoring face
I love you my responsibility has found a place
Beside you and strong warnings in the guise of gentle words
Come wave upon me from the family wider net absurd
"You'll take care of her, I know it, you will do a better job"
Maybe, but not what she deserves
Elope with me Miss Private and we'll drink ourselves awake
We'll taste the coffee houses and award certificates
A privy seal to keep the feel of 1960 style
We'll comment on the decor and we'll help the passer by
And at dusk when work is over we'll continue the debate
In a borrowed bedroom virginal and spare
The catcher hits for .318 and catches every day
The pitcher puts religion first and rests on holidays
He goes into cathedrals and lies prostrate on the floor
He knows the drink affects his speed he's praying for
a doorway
Back into the life he wants and the confession of the bench
Life outside the diamond is a wrench
I wish that you were here with me to pass the dull weekend
I know it wouldn't come to love, my heroine pretend
A lady stepping from the songs we love until this day
You'd settle for an epitaph like "Walk Away, Renee"
The sun upon the roof in winter will draw you out like a flower
Meet you at the statue in an hour
Meet you at the statue in an hour
My Brand New Daughter, (And The Reason I've been away) (Blog Entry by Arsenault185)
Congratulations. Kayla Renee is gorgeous.
The CRAZIEST low pass ever by a HELICOPTER
I think Vic Marrow, Myca Dinh Le, and Renee Shin-Yi Chen would take issue with the title "The CRAZIEST low pass ever by a HELICOPTER" and say "No, a crazy low pass by a helicopter, but not THE craziest" Oh, wait, they're dead now because of being involved with THE craziest low pass ever by a helicopter.
Maneuvers like this don't express skill. They just show how stupid some people will go to impress people.
