Disturbed - The Sound of Silence

Asmo says...

They do a heck of a lot of good covers and original music that isn't just yelling. Well, some anyway. ; )

And yeah, the original is still the best, but covers are a great way to not only interpret the original piece, but also a way to introduce it to new generations, although I do hate young douchebags raving about this "great new music" which is a cover from a 30 year old track.

Should gay people be allowed to marry?

Asmo says...

Because we want racist, homophobic, ostensibly "straight" but showing all the signs of being a closeted self loather morons like yourself to suffer under the gay tyranny!!

Change is coming/has come/will keep coming, and there's not a fucking thing you can do about it. You're impotent, flaccid, unable to become erect, a floppy fossil that has already passed in to irrelevance. You can rant and rave and troll to your hearts content, but if you really feel that strongly about it, prepare to be fucking disappointed bitch! ; )

How Systemic Racism Works

StukaFox says...

Zoe Quinn? What the FUCK are you even on about, you incredible heap of crazy?

Here's a quick clue, since communication what other human beings isn't your strong point: if someone has to go to Google to understand your ravings, you haven't made a point -- instead, you've done the textual equivalent of shitting your pants.

You call me a moron, yet you prove your ignorance and inadequate education by not knowing how google works. Of course that's typical of the Zoe Quinn type education level the sjw mongs seem to have.

hehe..i am a tad long in the tooth as well.my days of tripping balls are pretty much over.
8 years ago there was a fantasy ranch reunion show.an old school 90's rave reunion that i was all excited about and my ex and her husband bought me tickets (vip,limo..the works) and i felt soooo out of place.last time i ventured into the underground world of the young and extremely high.i was forced to recognize my time in that world ..was over.

basically i was talking out my ass.

and i am ok with that.

replying here to avoid hijacking another thread...but leaving it public in case others might be interested in my reasoning, or yours.

Perhaps at times he has advocated responsible use, but often (like this instance) it's nothing more than 'DMT is what you all need, take some'.

I also agree, some people may benefit from psychedelics...but some may have disastrous experiences that end in death or permanent brain damage, especially when not done with pharmaceutical grade substances (which is never mentioned here). You never know what you have on the black market, video's I've seen of testing being done on drugs bought at 'raves' and concerts showed that well over 50% were not what they were supposed to be, or had dangerous adulterants. Unless you pay for testing, you don't know what you've got (sometimes true even with pharmaceuticals, sadly).

I also see it that way, as proselytizing for a drug that can have life altering effects, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. That always leaves out the dangers and usually any warning on how to be 'safe' at all, which leaves some readers thinking there are no dangers. That's my main issue, if there was a clear warning with each advocating instance, I wouldn't complain (but might still disagree that it's good for all).

My point exactly, people are made differently and what works for one may destroy another. That's why blanketly advocating strong drugs is a problem for me.

I have a healthy respect for psychedelics and their effects, especially one's as strong as DMT, which is why I'm disturbed at the off hand, blanket promotion of taking them without clear warnings included.

while i agree that shagen tends to get downright biblical in regards to psychedelics,i have never seen him suggest taking them irresponsibly or in an abusive manner.

in fact,i have seen him on multiple occasions lay out proper procedure to have a safe and enjoyable trip.

i actually agree with shagen the positive benefits psychedelics can have on a person, having experienced them myself on multiple occasions, over a span of decades.

the difference between shagen and i,is that i see trying to sway someone who has never ingested psychedelics into taking them in the very same vein as trying to sway an atheist into believing in jesus.

it is never going to happen,so why would i waste my time?

it is like trying to teach a blind man the color blue,or a woman what it is like to have a penis.

certain people have certain personality traits that may lend them to experiment with psychedelics.other people do not.one should not be judged greater or lesser than the other, because both represent personal choice.

personally i love psychedelics, for many of the reasons shagen posts.you may not,for your own reasons.totally fair in my book.
you will never see me at your door asking "having you found the joys of chemically induced hallucinations yet?"

maybe i should.....
i shall call it the "cult of acid".
let the doorknocking BEGIN!

Bill Burr Weighs In On Gay Marriage

poolcleaner says...

I doubt there is a single thing left that can be considered going too far -- other than going too far and inciting a riot or having people kill for you with jokes that control people's minds. Or just a simple, classic killing joke. Yes, when the listener hears the punch line, they die because they're a faggot. Oh, I forgot to tell you the joke only kills faggots and has a side effect of transforming a foetus into a raving mentally challenged serial killer that kills other babies and wears baby faces. Hmm... I'm thinking 3d printable action figures.

Do not mess with a parent - here is why

lucky760 says...

Just to reply to this one statement, he only starts out as a raving father and only turned into a violent asshole when the asshole with the camera was dismissive, arrogant, and flippant, taunting him into responding with more than words.

I think it's obvious the father probably had a valid reason to be upset with the camera guy. It's just too big a leap to think a guy would go that berserk over casual bad driving, and camera guy's attitude proves he was probably getting a kick out of causing road rage but was too pussy to back up his cowardly bullshit any more than it took him to barely roll down the window.

newtboy says...

You're making the assumption that angry dad has a point to make, and isn't just being angry dad, and that Kevin Smith doesn't have a child in the back seat himself, and that Smith was really driving badly/dangerously.
Dude driving like an asshole? Maybe. We didn't see that happen, and I'm hesitant to take the word of a raving violent asshole.
Dad's driving like an asshole by abandoning his car and child in traffic to scream, then assault someone else, definitely a giant throbbing asshole.
When someone jumps out of their car in traffic and approaches yours, filming them is totally appropriate, and being slightly amused is not abnormal. When someone assaults you by smashing your window into your face, having them arrested and their child removed by CPS is appropriate.

To me this incident is 100% angry dad being the dangerous criminal here. Even if the filmer was driving poorly, the reaction was ridiculously criminal and ACTUAL child abuse (committing a violent crime while driving/abandoning your child is certainly abusive).
Maybe I better get my pipe hitting, blow torch n' pliers using brothers to snatch and teach him a lesson? ;-)

lucky760 said:

I understand the emotion especially when someone else's inconsiderate, selfish douchebaggery is putting your children at risk, but you can't allow it to overtake your behavior.

Don't let emotions turn into actions, at least not uncontrolled rageful actions. (It'd be better to take down his license plate, find him later, and take your time teaching Homes the error of his ways with the help of some hard pipe-hitting motherfuckers, a pair of pliers, and a blow torch.)

To the father, two words: Dude, maintain.

To the long-hair pink jacket and green beanie wearing Kevin Smith wannabe who finds amusement in endangering other people then watching them get upset, I hope you encounter someone who will wipe that fucking grin off your face in a way you'll never forget.

One of the Best Press Conferences Ever - Marshawn Lynch

kceaton1 says...

Onto a secondary topic, it includes the "media frenzy" and the contract clauses that force players, coaches, and others to appear before the media... Plus the media in general, when it comes to the Superbowl (but, this has to do with our country; or at the least certain segments and populations of our country). But, really it's about the general stupidity and levels we have turned this ONE event into!

Only a few interviews are worth looking at typically and they tend to be AFTER a game, not before it (as that amounts to "what ifs", "probably might", "we sure can try", and "if I win, I'll go to 'insert Measleland or another place here' with my wife/kid/family/parrot"). I absolutely hate the fourteen hour pre-game show that the NFL and the channel hosting this *thing* that apparently people watch, that is quite like a: "super-fabulous-orgasmic-serotonin ovulating-dopamine excreting-heroine junkie nerve conduction transfer-fourteen people high at a rave experimenting in an orgy with all the holes and toys available"... OK, so maybe that is a bit too far, but still...! It really is the most "grandiose" setups for a game, that doesn't need such a grandiose setup.

The should just make it a damned national holiday already--everyone already stays home or is basically forced to, since one half of their family is probably glued to the TV for quite awhile.. Although I know we always "had" these interviews on the TV, but we never really listened to them, because they bring out 40 people who essentially ALL say the same thing (the only difference is if it is a different team and or if they are extremely religious--they will then tell you how their team will win, "...no matter what...", and then if they are religious proceed to randomly give you the, "God is on our side...", mantra...which always made me laugh--literally, out-loud).

Then they cut back to the ex-coach's and arm-chair quarterbacks who have been given a one day opportunity to tell the world what they think, and how he game will go (and it never does).

Needless to say, I HATE, with a passion, the "pre-game show" (which didn't exist in it's ridiculous form for a VERY longtime until the late 80's and early 90's). I'd rather them move all of their prime-time TV shows that will not be shown that night, due to the game, to that period of the day and let us watch that instead before the game (then they can give us a modest 45-30 minute pre-game; not this 5-hour marathon of ads and marketing, with a bunch of talking faces trying as hard as they can to make a name for themselves in that time-span).

Only people like "Beast Mode" can save that time allotment and make it worthwhile (if you think it is "entertaining", you REALLY need to stay away a bit from Football, and I'm saying that as a concerned friend...)--because right now, although a lot of people flip their TV over to the channel with it on...it is a massive waste of money and time--that somehow generates massive amounts of money (talk about "very careful" and "orchestrated" money setups and schemes; but luckily they have idiotic companies paying them gigantic sums of money for their commercials to air...even before the game comes on...). And, I wish people wouldn't just flip over to it, to have it on in the background (as most of the time I've noticed, whether it's a game at my house, someone else's OR an actual Superbowl party--no one watches that crap, it just sits on that channel...making them "think" they are getting ratings, but they actually aren't. It's kind of like saying that people go to Tailgate parties to park cars and see how neat the cement is...

Why Tipping Should Be Banned

bareboards2 says...

I traveled with a woman from England once. She raved about the low prices in restaurants.

I explained that was because she was expected to tip and that the servers were paid very poorly.

She still refused to tip, and just enjoyed the low prices.

I made a point of going back to the servers after she left and tell them -- hey, she's from England and doesn't tip. That tip is from me.

The servers didn't really care, but I did. I did not want any bad karma attached to me.

I agree with this video. Get rid of tipping and pay for the actual cost of your food.

Related topic -- Walmart needs to pay their workers so the folks who shop at Walmart pay the actual costs of the goods, instead of having the American taxpayers pay for it through food stamps. (I'm not opposed to food stamps AT ALL, I am opposed to people not paying for what they get.)

VideoSift Sarzy's Top Ten Movies of 2014

Sarzy says...

Well, since I have points to spare and no shame, *promote *quality

@lucky760 Yeah, I remember you raving about Gone Girl on sift talk. I liked it a lot too -- if this were a top 20, it would have been there for sure, but sadly it didn't quite make the cut. There were a ton of movies that just narrowly missed out -- Ida, Snowpiercer, Fury, Oculus, INHERENT VICE (seriously, it breaks my heart that a new PTA movie isn't on my top 10, but I just couldn't squeeze it in).

@bareboards2 Thanks. And yep, I definitely like action a bit more than your average person (punchy/shooty action, at least -- explodey blockbuster action, not so much).

Speaking of which, where's @shuac? He'd love this list, I'm sure.
