I used to feed my cats live june bugs! Around june/july I would collect a handful and then release them before the pur machines and watch them play... and then eat.

I got the idea when they ran out of my house and started swatting the bugs like wild animals. They even growled at eachother when one caught a bug in their mouth -- stay away, this one is MINE.

Funny, when I used to come home from long stints away, my cat used to come up and run around my legs meowing furiously until I picked her up a which point she'd bury her head in my shirt and start purring furiously... = \

This beast maintains her appeal for a few reasons-The ones that are left still run as they did when they were manufactured(they're brick-shithouses in the durability/reliability categories) and like most simply-designed diesel engines maintain their dependability-Combine these with the enthusiastic appeal of our collective industrial heritage and the vibrating ground beneath her pad when she's purring and you have a recipe for an unquenchable, historically relevant enthusiasm.

I had a cat that drooled a lot (and I mean a LOT) when she purred. Unfortunately, I found this out the hard way. I was laying in bed and she came over and sat on my chest looking down at me... Yep.. you probably guessed it.. Right in my mouth.

the purring sound is not actually uncommon.
squirrels use snorts and grunts to communicate,and yes..when they are content is does sound a bit like purring.
oh...and they make fantastic pets.
