Very unlikely. I don't really know the katy perry song, but Wikipedia says that it came out on May 6, 2008. The electrypnose track playing at ~50:00 is called Make Or Quake, and it was released on a compilation on May 10th, according to discogs.

I absolutely love psytrance. I totally identify with the narrator's statement - "We would look at each other confounded - 'like is this actually happening?'. And the only proof of this strange experience occurring was the eye contact".

When I first fell in love with this music I couldn't believe what was happening to me. There was a temptation to attribute magical/spiritual qualities to this music because no music had ever spoken to me like that. My first reaction was proselytizing. Whenever a psytrance track would hit me hard I would try to find a friend and share the track with them, thinking that it would have the same effect on them. How could it not? It took me several lukewarm reactions to outright ridicule to realize that this music does not have universal appeal. One of my best friends at the time said that - "this music sounds like robotic clowns farting". I find humor in his response now but at the time his reaction made me feel really sad that he couldn't experience this amazing thing that was happening to me. But since then I have come to realize that this experience is universal and is known by many different names, my favorite being - 'flow'. There is usually something in almost everyone's life that makes them feel like the way the narrator of this video feels at a psytrance party. It sounds like psytrance and painting induce flow in djsunkid. A good book on the subject is "Flow: The Psychology of optimal Experience".

Well, I don't have an MP3 player, so I just loaded up my entire collection in winamp and hit randomize playlist. Here's what I came up with:

1. Beatsystem - Endlessly Downward

This is exactly what it sounds like. It is a 3 minute track of a repeating loop of tones that sound like they are going downward, endlessly. It is kind of a auditory version of barbershop pole.

2. Transwave - The Rezwalker (London Live Remix)

The first of several classic goa trance tracks that ended up here. I do have a fair collection of old goa on here, I suppose, but they are unfairly represented in this list, which is just fine. I love this music.

3. Finski Disco - Speaking in Lungs

Now this is really really weird stuff. Finland psytrance is some of the most interesting music I've heard in years.

4. Acrid Abeyance - 303 Delight

Classic, screaming, hard acid techno music. 303 delight, indeed.

5. Pleiadians - Alcyone

Another classic goa track. Alcyone is the name of a star in the pleadian star cluster.

6. Cause 4 Concern - Research

Drum and bass.

7. St. Germain - Montego Bay Spleen

This is the closest thing to an embarassment on my list. OK, it's almost mainstream jazzy house music. It's cool though.

8. Chris Watson - Adult Cheetah resting by the Baobob tree.

An actual recording of a Cheetah, purring as it rests by a tree. If you turn it up loud, it sounds crazy- almost like you're in a cheetah's mouth!

9. Shpongle - Periscopes of Consciousness
10. Infected Mushroom - Semi Nice
