I don't know much about 3D printing, but couldn't the printer just pick up where it left off when the power comes back on?

Rhys Millen Wins Pikes Peak First Electric Car Victory

No power loss at altitude helps quite a bit I imagine. Would be interesting to see the splits compared to a combustion engine as it climbs, well, if it hadn't lost a motor half way up.

'95 Miata Review: Hilarious and Informative

chingalera says...

There's a conversion to electric for all you die-hard Miata enthusiasts-For about 10K you can convert a Miata to full-electric and the range and power is pretty impressive-The conversion should get cheaper as the battery technology advances.

The things' a decent car when it's running (response sucks and it rides like a buckboard) but you have to be Asian or a tiny girl to avoid the sensation of being jettisoned to drive an escape pod.

I am guessing the pleasurable experiences in these cars come form folks who have not owned one over 75K miles and have had to deal with any abrupt power loss in hot climates which NO Miata tech can give any conclusive advice as to how to correct.

The cars' pretty much a turd for performance, all it's appeal is in it's boutique position in the auto world and how fucking adorable is is when the tops' down and a cute chicks' driving it.

I'm 5'3",145lbs and I feel like a football player in uniform in the damn thing.

This viddy is funny, fun!

Storm Diaries - How is everybody doing? (Nature Talk Post)

I live in Yarmouth, Maine which is on the coast about 15 miles north of Portland. Based upon the local news, the biggest impact is power loss. Thankfully, I woke up this morning and the coffee pot was waiting for me.

Wireless Electricity - Plugs are for losers

conan says...

Oh the revolution! It's so new! I always thought my electric toothbrush was charged with magic. Or maybe could it be? Yes, we already have had that for years. And the power loss is so significant, no one uses it for anything else than small devices that are only in use for a few minutes or with a very, very low power consumption. And to all you super-hipsters: there's also one available for your superfancy iphone, comes in form of a mat where you put your ipaytonsofmoneyforoldjunkandbelieveitsnew-phone on and it charges the phone without a cable. ...besides that one which goes into the mat ;-)

useless, useless, useless.

I am a bit negative today i guess :-)

Activism = Targeted Inactivism (Sift Talk Post)

gorgonheap says...

It's not just a days lost wages. It's going to drive up the price of EVERYTHING! Economics 101, the law of supply and demand. If demand cannot be met the price of the good will increase. The market can flex if 3% of it's workforce is out sick. It can't if a large enough percentage of that halts production of needed goods.

Are you calling 9/11 a coincidence? Tell you what do some research on how economics work in a capitalist society and you'll see what I'm talking about. It's not just going to wake people up to a war it will cause one. Where people will kill one another just to get what they need to survive. You don't comprehend the impact. It would kill more then the Iraq war ever has.

Hospitals and nursing homes would have thousands if not millions die. Power loss would grip every major city. Wall Street would crash and a depression would lay in it's wake that would destabilize the world. Millions would be stranded and homeless... I think I'll take a small war with another country first.
