ReBorn || Stealth Kill

Your friends are douche bags who deserve to have that barrel of popcorn dumped on their heads before being 86'ed permanently.
If they wanna talk, they need to watch it at home, not where a theater full of people spent their valuable time and money to see AND HEAR a movie.

It was nice on the big screen with a barrel of popcorn, but the people I was with talked the whole time.

Stage 9 - Virtual Enterprise-D Tour v0.0.10

MilkmanDan says...

Sometimes I'm very glad that I live in a country that generally doesn't give a f@$% about US Copyright and Intellectual Property.

Since that is the case, and because I also happen to derive some schadenfreude-esque pleasure from the "Streisand effect", I have decided to download and seed for the foreseeable future the 6GB worth of files for the last version of Stage 9 before the shutdown, including Windows, Linux, and VR variants.

Anyone interested in following suit can use this magnet link, although there is potential for ISP strikes/warnings if you live in the US or other places where they have a less laissez-faire approach to these things than in Thailand (where I live).

Fair use needs protection. When that fails, at least one can assist with unfettered use, even if the powers that be claim that use is illegitimate.

Adam Ruins Everything - The Myth of Poison Halloween Candy

Sagemind says...

I've thought of this one many times over the years.
To me it would make sense for candy companys to spread these tales.
Virtually no one uses baked goods, popcorn balls, fruit or any other "Treat" anymore unless it's a perfectly wrapped, factory packaged treat.

To me it's a no brainier who benefited from these stories.

TOMB RAIDER - Official Trailer #1

I know Hollywood likes to go tacticool on weapons, particularly in popcorn flicks, but those USP Matches look even more ridiculous in her hands than they did in Jolie's.

The Adpocalypse: What it Means

jimnms says...

Sorry in advance, I just had to rant about ads while they were on my mind.

I don't mind ads, if it's a good ad. Keep it simple and short, like: This is our product, this is what it does, here are some uses you could have for it, thank you for your time. I hate ads that try to be catchy, clever, or seem targeted at idiots. They basically follow the opposite formula for what I consider a good ad above. They start off by telling you that you have a problem, why you have the problem (your an idiot) and then tell you that have to buy their product to fix your problem, and usually go on way too long.

There are too few good ads, so I just don't watch ads anymore, anywhere. Advertisers have brought this on themselves. I don't watch much TV anymore, but for the few things I do still watch, I record on my DVR and skip ads. I use an ad blocker on my browser, but I will white list sites that I regularly visit if the ads are reasonable.

I don't mind paying a reasonable fee for ad-free content. I subscribe to Netflix and Amazon video (but fucking Amazon is now putting ads in for their own shit). I have a one-disk subscription with my Netflix account, but I'm only watching about one movie a month. I used to watch the trailers once so I could see if there are any up-coming movies I might want to see, but movie trailers are becoming too damn long now. And fuck you if you make your ads unskipable on the disk, I won't watch them out of principle. I've gotten to the point now where I just put the disk in 10 minutes or so before I'm ready to watch it, leave the sound muted and when I come back with my popcorn and beer the movie is ready to watch.

Star Wars - The Last Jedi Trailer

RedSky, I'm with you 100%. What I meant was how the 2 movies met my expectations differently. I think most SW fans had much higher expectations for SW7 than R1. SW7 is so much more important, it needed to carry the SW story forward, while R1 is more of a cash-grab than anything else. I don't mean I'd rate R1 better than SW7.

My reaction after seeing SW7 was like "what the hell Disney? Must you mess up the ending? It could've easily been much better. But I like Rey & co and I'm so happy seeing the old crew." While R1 was "That was meh. But it wasn't as bad as the reviews said."

That's mainly because I'm really lenient with R1. You said "The characters were bland and underdeveloped" which is true but it's something I accepted before going into the cinema. We all know they'll die at the end, the ending was known for decades. They really are throwaway characters that Disney can't bring back. So I treated it as an unimportant popcorn movie than a proper SW Sci Fi, and it was a better than most blockbusters.

RedSky said:

Wow, absolutely the opposite reaction to me.

I thought Rogue One was a travesty of film making. The characters were bland and underdeveloped, the plot made little sense and the dialogue was awful. The only redeeming aspect were the special / practical effects and art.

I would criticise Force Awakens for treading safe in replicating the plot of A New Hope to a ridiculous degree but the characters had a sense of identity, purpose and relatability. Most of the set pieces (Han Solo, Jakku, Falcon escape) were memorable.

The lightsaber battle definitely suffered from FX over-use. What made the one in Empire Strikes Back compelling is the austere focus of it as a battle of wills. At least this one was less ridiculous than the lava clusterfuck of Revenge of the Sith.

For Kylo Ren, a lot will depend on whether he remains a bland, corrupted villain or develops into a repentant anti-hero. Hopefully they won't follow the Vader/Emperor arc too closely. In any case, he's certainly going to take back seat to Snoke as primary villain.

Sneaking Snacks into the Movies

CrushBug says...

I have been carrying in my own bag of popcorn into movie theaters for about 25 years. I have never once been questioned about it.

I once brought in a bag of chips and that shit was loud and I never did that again.
