Atheist in the Bible Belt outs herself because she is MORAL

VoodooV says...

What is the effective difference between an all out dis-engagement which is essentially a shunning vs him being removed from the community when it is known that he is here only to push a product? There is no difference except for one. If he sticks around, there is always going to be someone who falls for the trap and we get to go through this all again. I say remove the trap. There are plenty of other places on the internet to fall for shillery. This doesn't have to be one of them.

It's not about profiting. yes we all are here to "get something out of it" The difference is that shiny admits that he is selling something.

Are you selling something @bareboards2 ? Am I? Is it your sole mission on the sift to press a particular viewpoint? Or are you just a little bit more multi-faceted than that?

I think it's rather hypocritical to not allow spam bots and marketing shills on here, but when someone shills the bible...suddenly it's ok.

I appreciate what they're trying to do. This site has an obvious left slant, but this is a misguided attempt to artificially balance it out. Yes, I said artificially.
It's the same bullshit the media tries to pull by giving airtime to both sides in order to pretend to be "balanced" regardless of how much evidence one side has over the other.

If anything, the sift gives Shiny preferential treatment because of his beliefs. He's become the poster child of the religious viewpoint here and so it doesn't seem to matter how he conducts himself or how intellectually dishonest or fallacious he is. He gets a pass. He certainly knows how to play the victim. You devote your entire existence here on the sift to pushing any other message and I bet you'd probably get kicked out.

To play into the liberal stereotype that the conservatives have. I bet you anything if someone started posting constantly about how great Obama is to the same extent Shiny posts about God/religion, even on a left leaning site such as this they'd eventually get kicked out for spam. At the very least, even us godless liberals would get sick of it and would find such a sifter to be annoying and ignore them.

This is not about atheist vs religion, this is not left vs right. This is about people who contribute to the community in good faith and those that do not. It's about holding people's feet to the fire.

If nothing else, you have to admit there are people out there who can represent religion FAR better than Shiny ever could. So if the sift really feels they HAVE to have a designated, artificial, religious "representative" to balance us "out of control liberals" There are people out there far less disingenuous and not one trick ponies like Shiny.

@VoodooV --- you would do better to implore Sifters to stop engaging with him. It ends quickly if no one attempts to "debate" him.

I see your point about "selling" -- but it isn't a great analogy. We are all here for our own purposes, those of us who comment regularly. We get something from the exchange, so we "profit" just as shiny profits from his attempts to save our souls.

Rather than trying to ban him, which I do NOT support, or trying to shut him up, why not take that energy and implore those who "debate" with him to just stop?

Shiny will either go away when he is ignored, or he will join us in loving a good kitty video. I would LOVE to bond with shiny over a kitty video.

"Sexy Kids" - (Ku*t And The Gang)

I was standing there, hands trembling, my wife due home from work any time now... I reached for my youngest daughter's top - it came off with little resistance.

Her training bra was my next hurdle. Hands still trembling, I gently unclipped it and unable to control my hands I watched it as it fell to the floor.

Her short little skirt was next, I reached out and slid it off. As I ran my hands slowly over her My Little Pony panties I could feel they were already really, really damp...

Anyway, I'd better finish getting the rest of the washing in - it's raining and my Parkinsons isn't making it any easier.

The 'perfect' ponytail in 5 seconds

Sagemind says...

I'm not a single dad - but as a dad with long hair and a pony (recently cut off), It was my job to do my daughter's pony tail in the mornings and before dance class.

First of all, she would never let me get away with this. Fun, but in no way a real solution. Her pony had to be perfect, not a hair out of alignment. And as a perfectionist, I would oblige.

She does her own hair now, so I'm off the hook

Steven Wright doing a longer than usual act

bareboards2 says...

*length-60:00

I am making up a length, because Kulpims says that this was his whole act, something called I Have A Pony, I'm guessing.

It's weird, because the length was 9 minutes before it was deaded the first time.

Maybe somebody can find the whole act somewhere.... but this is just weird....

Steven Wright - One Liners

bareboards2 says...

I think is a dupe, not a related post. Backdrop is the same, clothes are the same, the length is the same, and I definitely remember the humidifier joke. I can't really tell, though, because the other is dead. But then... the tags include "I have a pony" which doesn't make any sense....

Kulpims, do you think they are the same?

...as to relentlessly pushing crap...

Where is this delineated as an abuse?

Further, me thinks you overestimate the quality of a great deal of the content here and underestimate and undervalue user satisfaction or contributions to said satisfaction.

However, have it as you will, it is your dog and pony show.

Please, save the spurious platitudes.

Hi chiccorea-

Just wanted you to be aware that your relentless blind queue voting will no longer earn you Queue Angel badges, so please start voting just based on video content.

Blind up-voting just serves to push crap content to the front page and continuing this abuse is likely to result in punitive action.

Happy holidays.

Millionaire Banker Stabs Cabbie, Charges Dropped -- TYT

Boise_Lib says...

@ponceleon I think we fundamentally agree--but we seem to be talking past one another. You seem to be ascribing motivations to me which I don't think are right.

I do Not think that Jennings should be prosecuted because he's a smug, smirking bastard. I do Not think he should be prosecuted because of what TYT says.

I think he should be prosecuted because he was accused of a heinous crime. Apparently--at one time--the prosecuting attorney agreed. Then he didn't--that smells very bad; taking in to account the history of the US justice system favoring rich people over all others (OJ should be in jail for life for 2 murders--he's not because he could afford a team of scummy lawyers). I am "all worked up" because the dropping of the charges at the last minute smells like privilege.

I know I'm somewhat of a one trick pony here; posting all these TYT vids. But that doesn't mean I think they are always right--or even that their reporting doesn't sometimes suck (like this story).

Ammar's hand was cut and required six stiches. Jennings said the cabbie had grabbed the knife by the blade and that's how his hand got cut. So why was Jennings holding a knife? The prosecutor says he had to drop the case because Ammar had possession of the knife in question 5 months after the incident. Why didn't the cops ask where the knife was for all that time? No one has claimed that the knife wasn't Jennings', so how did the cabbie get it? So, the prosecutor says that Ammar is guilty of obstruction of justice for not telling anyone he had the knife. Weiss (the prosecutor) said he then could be fair and prosecute both or be fair and prosecute neither, and he chose the second option. This all stinks and needs to be brought out in court. Civil court means nothing to the rich--he could pay any fines out of pocket money.

But the justice system has a way to take care of prosecutorial misconduct. The Council on American-Islamic Relations has asked that the Federal Investigators to get involved. That--along with pressure from the stirred up public--should get a true investigation of this incident rolling.

(It sounds like you did a good job on your jury.)

Romney Introduces his VP as the Next President of the USA

VoodooV says...

@shinyblurry

I never said Ryan was an intellectual lightweight. Are you projecting your own fears again? Ryan is Palin lite in the sense that the Romney campaign knows it is losing so once again, they're making a risky gamble. Just like Palin was a gamble.

I also never said big gov't was the solution. Again, you seem to be projecting. Besides, it's funny how selective the right is about big gov't. they don't seem to mind a obscenely large military budget and they don't seem to mind gov't intruding on reproductive rights and issues of sexual orientation.

Gov't efficiency has nothing to do with size alone. big gov't can be inefficient and so can small. just because you cut the size of gov't doesn't magically make it efficient. on the other end of the spectrum, you've got a gov't that doesn't have the resources to do what they need to do..hence inefficiency and people get pissed when needed services are cut. Instead of this knee jerk, one-trick pony of small gov't. Efficient gov't actually has to do with compromise, and intelligence. Two things the right doesn't seem to be interested in.

your problems with big gov't has nothing to do with actual efficiency, it's about ideology.

That's the problem with Romney's campaign:

Romney: I'm running on my business experience, but we can't discuss my business experience. I'm also picking a VP that is notable only because of his budget...a budget I disagree with.

Ryan is a desparate attempt to rally the tea party. Problem is, the tea party isn't as big as they think they are. add to that Romney and his VP pick have this pesky effect of rallying the independents and women and moderates against them.

Doubling down and going further right isn't going to win the election. It didn't last time.
