Florence + The Machine - What The Water Gave Me

cito says...

yea this is horrible, "canned" new pop is really an embarrassment on the music industry.

Companies like ARK music factory <- wikipedia them
and others hire people that can halfassed sing then as with ARK they have more computer techs than musicians running them through ableton/flstudio and compression to make them halfassed acceptable then they buy songs at 100 dollars a pop, hell ARK Even advertises on craigslist for songwriters they pay 100 dollars per song or "poem" to give the "artist" which is the wrong term for it something to sing.

pop music today is pure canned crap pretty much. Companies like ARK music factory is just an overcomplicated 419 Nigerian scam... don't believe me go read up on them , they are ran by a nigerian who used to run 419 scams.

And he is now turned his scamming on the music industry

Why? You have no tolerance? I had missed the sarcasm box only if you make the extreme religious proud...

True, but the Bible does have its say on the matter:
Prov 13:24: "He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes (diligently)."
Prov 19:18: "Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying."
Prov 22:15: "Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him."
Prov 23:13: "Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die."
Prov 23:14: "Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell (Shoel)."
Prov 29:15: "The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.">> ^Morganth:
"Spare the rod, spoil the child" isn't actually in the Bible - it comes from a poem by Samuel Butler.

So we agree it (the bible) is not necessarily saying to go overboard on your child...and the concept of rod means different things to different people (And meant something entirely different 2K years ago.) I don't spare the rod on my children, but I have never once abused them. I have used a stern voice that hurt their feelings, a rare spank on their rump, and the dreaded time out. Of course the times I hug and tell them how great they are vastly outweighs the number of disciplines...
And I like how you named this post, "Spare the rod...or spoil the child." The "or" is what notes the tolerance you are developing towards religion--as though religion is not particularly responsible for this child's death...but sick, fucked up parents are to blame. Considering there are about 62 thousand cases of child abuse in Russia every year, I would agree with you.
You should read A Boy Called It...very heartrending...

In light of all the recent protests, be it London or BART or elsewhere, I'd like to say this:
The revolution will not be televised... it will be twitted, blogged, vlogged, liked, with a +1 cherry on top.

Quite possibly the most amazing poem ever written

He didn't like being lumped into a big bucket, or painted with a broad brush? Yes, that is rather unfair. So why do the exact same thing to lawyers?

At what point in this video does he do that?

"I resist the urge to remind the other dinner guests that it's also true what they say about lawyers.".

So.. if you were one of said dinner guests at this likely fictional dinner, you would have left there thinking he never fired back at the lawyer.

In his retelling of it, he never mentions what the urge was to say. It was most likely just a vulgar shot back.. as in something like 'they have small.....', or whatver. I say this because he then mentions 'they're eating, and in polite company'.

That's kinda beside the point anyways, because his rant was more about the contrast of the lawyer in the story's outlook of doing work for pay - where he teaches out of a genuine desire to teach, that's what drives him.. not money. Though he may very well desire to be rich just like pretty much everyone else. Therefore it was an insult to him for the other person to discuss pay, and snub his nose offhandidly over it. Some people do jobs because it's "what they were born to do", despite pay.. it may be something they love (or more in line with what's being expressed in the video) because they believe they're doing good in the world. I don't see the poem being so much about being stereo-typed or lumped together into some "big bucket" with other teachers.

Ontop of all this if you're take anything political / union / non-union / whatever from this, that's your baggage.

I believe your whole anti-union political thought process is what spurred you to shoot this guy down in some fashion.. work in a jab somehow.

It is exactly the same poem -- I prefer this performance though.

He is really pissed in this version -- it is rousing!

Should be *livemusic -- his words are musical and a live performance by definition is different each time.

Father-daughter purity balls: can it get any creepier?

Xax says...

I'll be the odd man out to say this isn't terrifying or horrible to me. I don't think it's a good idea and I would never, ever subject a daughter to it (and yes, that logo is fucking creepy... WTF?!?). But to call these people things like the American Taliban is hyperbole at its finest. You may not agree with them, but I believe they're doing it with the best of intentions, and no, I don't think it will scar the girls for life. Fathers who don't give a shit about their kids, they can certainly scar a daughter for life. There's no need to assume incestual desire is involved.

My problem is parents shouldn't be putting this on their kids, and yeah, mimicking what girls do with boyfriends to a tiny degree is a bit creepy. Teach them what you think is right, and let them make their own decisions... no need to make them read a poem in front of everyone or tell the world about it. I have no problem with abstinence if that's what someone chooses for themselves. I never would, cuz fucking sure is fun, but that's me.

To top it off, I actually found the last bit kind of sweet (well, compared to the rest of it anyways), with the father saying he'd still love his daughter, and her realizing it won't be the end of the world, if she breaks her promise.

There is another video that dannym has commented on with a similar theme to the poem - http://videosift.com/video/Steve-Coogan-tears-into-The-News-Of-The-World

right on man.that was excellent.
and ill just add that the poem also accuses us all of destroying the very heroes we once exalted for even failing us in the slightest degree.
it is about consumption of an idea manifested in the idolization of a person..or thing.
