Grenade throwing fail by Chinese Army rookie

charliem says...

>> ^Drachen_Jager:

That's not a "grenade". That's a "practice grenade" I doubt if either of them would have been seriously injured even if they hadn't moved, it's just a little bang and some smoke.

Looks like a real grenade to me.
They dont go off with giant plumes of fire, just a small puff of smoke and death.

"We Are The Same" Tragically Hip

The reactor's down
I guess for Labour Day
Today is the first day I ain't seen the great plume of steam
From across the lake
From across the lake
Hey, that's a morning moon, yeah

I'm not making strange
You said, "Someone's paying"
"When something's too cheap
Somebody's paying something"
You said, "Someone's paying something"
Under a morning moon, yeah
Say those little things that don't make anyone feel better, yeah

It didn't take too much to upset her
Nothing that could clear a room
Just say one little thing that could make me feel better
Under this morning moon, yeah

The sun's a lightbulb
And the moon is a mirror
There are times when you can see
Both the bulb and the mirror
See the bulb in the mirror
And that's morning moon, yeah
Say those little things that don't make anyone feel better, yeah

It doesn't take too much to upset her
It was nothing that could clear a room
Just say one little thing, trying to make you feel better
Under this morning moon, yeah
Under this morning moon, yeah

Morning moon, yeah, trying to make you feel better
Morning moon, yeah, nothing too far from the truth
Morning moon, yeah, trying to make you feel better
Morning moon, yeah, nothing too far from the truth
Morning moon, yeah, trying to make you feel better
Morning moon, yeah, nothing too far from the truth

Major Fireball Seen Over Ireland - 3 February 2010

If you look at the plume closely and how it develops you'll see that the video is played backwards. This gives the impression it's getting larger (and closer) as time passes. I wouldn't be surprised if it had been turned upside down. Therefore my money is on a rocket too, like Lodurr said.

Major Fireball Seen Over Ireland - 3 February 2010

Lodurr says...

According to this article, I think that's a rocket launch video that was released because that's what the meteor would've looked like to witnesses. The slow rate of descent and the white smoke plume aren't characteristic of meteors.

Could be fake, to try and stir up viral attention for their agenda or whatever, but it could be real, I suppose. We don't really know what the guy did. Why is there a huge plume of smoke at the end? Maybe he was part of something that got someone hurt or otherwise stepped outside the bounds of "peaceful demonstration," and he was just somebody who needed to be cooled off. Obviously, if it's not fake, they're just keeping the peace. Take off your fucking tinfoil hats, people. God damn.

Also, image stabilization should be required by law in every device capable of recording video.

Interesting Acoustic Properties at Chichen Itza (4 seconds)

Morganth says...

I spent a summer living in Merida so I've been there a number of times. On the Spring and Autumn equinox, at the rising and setting of the sun, the corner of the structure casts a shadow in the shape of a plumed serpent - Kukulcan, or Quetzalcoatl - along the west side of the north staircase. On these two days, the shadows from the corner tiers slither down the northern side of the pyramid with the sun's movement to the serpent's head at the base. There are also 91 steps on each side and then the one platform at the top to account for the 365 days of the year (the fact that they knew this in the ~11th century is damn impressive).

They also built this 30 meter-tall pyramid without any load bearing animals, metal tools, pulleys, or the wheel.

NASA to Announce Life On Mars @ 2PM EST?? (Science Talk Post)

Ryjkyj says...

(Edit)

From, nasa.gov:

"It's of interest to astrobiologists because organisms release much of Earth's methane as they digest nutrients. However, other PURELY GEOLOGICAL PROCESSES, like oxidation of iron, also release methane. "Right now, we don’t have enough information to tell if biology or geology -- or both -- is producing the methane on Mars," said Mumma. "But it does tell us that the planet is still alive, at least in a geologic sense. It's as if Mars is challenging us, saying, hey, find out what this means." (Full article posted below by stingray)

NASA did NOT announce today that "the methane that surrounds the planet is a result of microbial organisms, which are still alive and kickin' today." They announced that they found more plumes of methane.

I am so pissed at you right now volumptuous. I had to go back offline for four hours to work and I come back to this?

(edit) MY GOD!!! They found methane on Titan as well!!!
