How to never have a serious poison ivy rash again.

ulysses1904 says...

Poison ivy has always been my kryptonite, although luckily I haven't had an episode in years. The worst ever was when I ran a weed whacker while wearing shorts, didn't realize I was hitting poison ivy. Both legs were a crusty, oozing mess for 2 weeks. My coworkers took pity and went out and got my lunch for me every day, knowing that walking was an ordeal. Good times.

Good video.

Woman Refuses to Leave Uber Car

C-note says...

It is so sad how a manipulative person can take a sane person over the edge. She clearly is an expert troll and I have pity for any person who has to deal with her casually or professionally.

Can someone bring this to Bill Burr's attention. I can't wait to hear his commentary.

Ya, I was trying to say related except for where the emotion comes from, but hey, I pity all of you so, meh.

Related in the same way yes and no, top and bottom, right and wrong, stop and go, square and triangle, open and closed, etc. are related.

How to Remain Calm With People

Hiddekel says...

I agree that compassion is a better word to end with, but only because the word pity is a victim of some of the concepts touched on in this video, when we are pitied we interpret it negatively, we think it's patronising or demeaning, which may be feeding an unconscious fear that we're seen as feeble.
Pity: "The feeling of sorrow and compassion caused by the sufferings and misfortunes of others"

I would only disagree with his very last word.

I'd say rather than move from "anger to pity", move from "anger to compassion".

Bill Maher: New Rule – There's No Shame in Punting

heropsycho says...

First off, he's not talking about everyone who plays video games. He's talking about people who ONLY play video games to the point that they're socially maladjusted. Big difference.

And even if he was talking about the geekier video gaming crowd, I don't even understand why it even registered on your radar as insulting. If you're a group that's actually discriminated against broadly, fine, but nerds? In this day and age of Mark Zuckerburg and Bill Gates? Really?!

It reminds me of this Louie CK bit.

"You can't even hurt my feelings."

Us poor nerds these days, with our solid paying upper middle class jobs and even higher, with college degrees! Pity us!

Just have the ability to laugh at yourself from time to time. Trust me, it's all going to be ok.

yeah, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't call it out.

It's a lazy stereotype and honestly, these days it's about as funny, original and accurate as saying "hah! women! everyone knows they can't play sports!"

If you're going to pull out a lazy stereotype at least be funny with it.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren to Republicans: Do Your Job

Aziraphale says...

"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."

He is a perfect example of what happens to a person when you conflate your opinions with your identity; an abject rejection of any evidence contradictory to his world view. I sort of pity him.

Syrian Refugee Camp In Jordan - Vlogbrothers

aaronfr says...

As someone who works almost daily with refugees and IDPs, as well as the rural poor and generally impoverished, I would like to commend John for his accurate and powerful portrayal of the humanity of these Syrian refugees.

Often, for people in the West, it is hard to understand that these people have agency. They are not helpless victims, they are not mere pawns in someone else's war; they have rich, meaningful lives filled with the same hopes that we all have. And, yes, they are in much more direct contact with the fears that most of us can only imagine. They face harder, tougher situations and decisions than anyone ever should.

They don't need or want your pity. They will take your help, if you give it openly and honestly. But they will also struggle and fight in their own ways, without you or your aid; they will make their lives and the lives of their children as full of love and purpose as any other person.

However tenable their situation, their humanity will remain. You have only to respect that, admire it, stand in awe of it, to have your heart and consciousness expanded.

Howdy Pardon for interrupting. Yes, Puddles is here in Adelaide for our annual Fringe Festival -> link. And that pie & sauce Youtube video had to have been filmed here in Adelaide as well, as the ketchup was a homebrand from Foodland, which is a local independent South Australian supermarket
