But the passengers on those planes assumed they were dealing with a standard hijacking. There was no way for them to know what was going to happen to them. I remember when I used to work at Gamestop I helped out at another one...and they told me someone was just fired for leaving too many envelopes of the days earnings in the safe. I thought "That's stupid whats the big F'n deal?" They explained to me that if a robbery had happened and the thieves got away with a large haul...it could potentially put more people in danger because it would get the message out that there's a large haul to be had from Gamestop...people could die over something like that.

I'm not sure what bias there would be. I seriously doubt that's the kind of thing you could easily study, so I'm not going to bother looking for data. But we all know that people on drugs, meth in particular, are/can be very paranoid and twitchy. It doesn't take but a bell to ring at the door for them to be spooked enough to pull the trigger while it's aiming at the clerk. Besides, I think that if they had access to AK-47s they'd use them the first time. It's why I go to the range as much as I can to keep my aim as good as possible. If I get the chance to draw a bead on someone who is actively and willingly endangering someone's life, they probably won't live to regret it. 15 hollow point rounds to the chest would make sure of that.>> ^Yogi:

Something to keep in mind when reading about coffee research is to check and see whether or not the "coffee" they refer to is a caffeine supplement or if it truly is coffee. It is found that coffee and synthetic caffeine supplements are very different with regards to how the body processes them and their effects. Pharmacists will tell you focusing on one chemical compound without researching how the other compounds and how they interact with each other is bad science. Which is way "coffee research" should focus on the over all product and not just one chemical compound.

Everything we put in our body has negative and positive consequences what we have to figure out when using an item for its benefit is whether or not the negatives are of bigger consequence then the positives.

I read somewhere, where a university professor got his laptop stolen, the thief returned his files and data on a usb stick in the profs mailbox (but kept the laptop). Saved him a hell of a lot of work having to recreate it, and insurance pays for the laptop anyway, so that was a much smaller hassle. The point is criminals are still people, but usually desperate or weak-willed.

That's why people defer to doctors, just like they will to any professional. Allowing the patient to make their own decisions is the cornerstone of any patient doctor relationship, but ignore advice at your own peril. View your doctor as a mechanic only if you value your life as much as you value your car.

This is where you are completely wrong. First of all, clinical medicine is evidence based. Science is the hand that guides patient care. Many clinicians are also researchers. Secondly, there's been a huge amount of effort to separate medicine from industry. Big pharm are completely forbidden to advertise to medical students, and unlike for pharmacists, "kick-backs" and other perks to influence doctors' prescribing habits are illegal. Any industry ties for researchers must be clearly documented and reported, and conflicts of interests are strictly monitored.

Lets see just how many things are wrong with this post.

1. Prescription drug deaths outnumber drug deaths

First of all, you even quoted the article wrong. The article says: "as of 2002, prescription drug overdoses have started outnumbering deaths from heroin and cocaine." Obviously overdoses does not equal death. The article does not provide a source for this statistic, and even if this is true, all it means is that prescription drugs are a lot safer than street drugs, considering the number of people on prescription medication far outnumber the hardcore heroin abusers. It also doesn't take into account just how many of those people on prescription medication have serious health issues - a 80 year old with heart failure and multiple co morbidities doesn't have a good prognosis in the first place.



2. Doctors pushing unnecessary Vicodin.

This is incredibly unlikely, since the doctor gets nothing from the drug company in return. In fact, a frustrating portion of any doctor's practice is filtering out drug seeking behaviour. Ask any doctor and they can tell you the ridiculous excuses they've heard.

Also, the article you linked is about celebrities. You can't judge the medical profession based on a small subset based in LA. Seriously, you think Michael Jackson will say "you're right doc, I shouldn't be using all these prescription meds to help me perform" or "Screw you doc. I can find someone else who will give me what I want"?

3. Blaming the medical profession for marijuana laws:

Right, lets ignore the complicated political issues re: America's war on drugs, and blame it on doctors instead. Let's just say that medicinal marijuana is one of the few ways that you CAN smoke pot legally.

It's pretty clear that you are heavily biased in your view of the medical profession. You use phrases like "self-serving, incestuous and profit driven", sarcastically referr to doctors as "oracles" or "pillars of society", and insinuate that doctors would compromise your health for a set of new golf clubs. I don't know what horrible experiences you've had in your past that has made you feel this way, but this is as far from the truth as possible.

Your distrust of the profession is bathed in ignorance, and your blind accusations, including your previous rant against obstetricians, is incredibly condescending and insulting.

Last month, my dog woke up abruptly, and confused my lower lip for a chew toy. I needed 12 stitches.

The ER doctors asked if I had any allergies, then Rx'd me an antibiotic I was allergic to. Thankfully, I asked my pharmacist some questions that might have saved my life. The dose they gave me at the ER caused me to itch violently (especially around my lymph nodes).

And I get to pay over a grand for the so-called "best medical care in the world." What a fucking joke.

This doctor is an asshole. Isn't this what the Republicans were threatening would happen? Except they thought that Obama supporters would be withholding care from registered Republicans...

Fucking stupid. You'd have to be to vote Republican or believe the lies that Fox spews.
