Spider-Man: Homecoming First Trailer

Louis CK Probably won't be Invited back to SNL after this

JustSaying says...

The sad part is, the comics do sometimes offer better solutions. I'm tired of Peter Parker Spiderman. I grew up with him but to be honest, who the fuck is that Morales guy? I'm actually curious about him. Isn't Captain Marvel a muslim girl now?
It could be better.
However, even the black guys are just best buddies, they're never the star. At least the new MCU Avengers team is actually a bit more interesting.

Gotham - Extended Trailer

ChaosEngine says...

Please tell me this isn't "Batman Kids" or something.

Listen up, comic book peoples. Drop the goddamn everything is all connected at the origin plot device.

Man of Steel did it and did it badly; Kal-El isn't just superman, he's Krypton Jesus.

The Amazing Spiderman did it and completely fucking missed the point of Spiderman; Peter Parker becomes Spiderman because of genetic destiny instead of, ya know, accepting that responsibility comes with power(which is only his fucking motto).

Even Hulk did it.

And now we see that Bruce Wayne interacts with Catwoman, and the Riddler etc as a child? sigh...

On the other hand... yay Major Rawls is back!

So I'm with @RFlagg on this one. Not expecting much, but willing to be pleasantly surprised.

RoboCop - Reboot Trailer

chingalera says...

Black RoboCop is black like his soul! (like the Black Peter Parker Spidey was)

Oh, and form the bulk of the comments here and we would also share the same sentiments, RoboCop was a singular event not unlike a comet strike or summer with a virgin, and this replication attempt should never have been allowed to manifest.

Two thumbs down, I think so!
Now......time to watch the piece of sheeeeitt!

So... Killer Croc Huh?
Oh that's right, wrong universe....

No, silly. This is Spider-Man, it's Doc Croc, duh! nods

That's almost of right actually. The Lizard is a doctor, and another mentor of Peter Parker before he goes all freaky and evil. If you saw spider-man 2 or 3 he was the college professor. It's a shame, they had an actor who seemed perfect for the role in the last series, and he never got to do anything.

Fox not happy about a non-white Spiderman

It's funny, I wasn't even thinking about the yellow-clad Green Lantern when I mentioned that character. I guess that shows how much I like Alan Scott. I was thinking more Guy Gardner, John Stewart, and Kyle Raynor.

Makes you realize that in some ways, Peter Parker is an anomaly. Few major characters that old have had their alter egos left untouched by writers. The most extreme thing that comes close was that costume change in the 80s that fanboys went batshit over.

1. This character isn't even in the main continuity. What's the big freakin' deal?
2. @cito Second or third or fourth versions of a hero/villian happen all the time in comics, with another dude or woman inheriting the name and basic costume. E.g., Iron man, flash, batman, green lantern, batgirl, captain america, wonder woman, the list goes on---- hell, there were even 4 or 5 Supermen after they "killed" Superman in the 90s.
3. directed to noone in particular: You fuckin' fanboys who think that every damn major character has to be white, and that it's realistic that in the far future, most people are white, have got to start getting real.

No shit, I doubt if anyone is even alive that liked the original Green Lantern. This stuff is as old as comics.

Fox not happy about a non-white Spiderman

Sagemind says...

I have nothing against Black, yellow, green, blue or red super heroes - it's all the same to me. But why "Convert" already established characters? This totally kills off the entire stigma and mysticism which created them and made them famous. Peter Parker is a white male. lets deal with that.

Now, let's create some real Black (or other nationality) (Shi) super heroes. Albert Francis "Al" Simmons is black and what a great series that is/was. Why are the great and almighty comic Gods, DC & Marvel, so afraid of creating new super hero lines? Why do they just keep recycling the old ones? I've got nothing against bringing back old forgotten-about characters but why trash the already established?

Classic Coke anyone? Or was it better when they recycled it and changed the recipe?

KnivesOut says...

So Peter Parker is a "traditional american hero" and the new brown spider man... he's not?

Btw, The Brown Recluse would be an awesomely (in)appropriate super-hero name.

Dark Knight: Load of Tripe (Cinema Talk Post)

Farhad2000 says...

American cinema always treats its audience like idiots, I believe much of this is done to make the film readily accessible to the rest of the world and thus increase revenues.

It takes a filmmaker with final cut and independence to really create something that is unique and intellectually engaging, Kubrick did this with 2001. That movie was like nothing before or since, no dialog for the start and end, no standardized narrative structure, the entire film was essentially carried by images and sound.

The problem lies with the cost of production, no one wants to spend millions of dollars on something that is smart but doesn't guarantee box office sales, that's why they hit a intellectual mid mark, an example of this I would say is the Matrix. It could have been far more abstract or far more action packed. But it tried to stick to a middle.

I have yet to see a comic book film that really satisfies besides Tim Burtons take on Batman, the story lines always seem so contrived, trying to make everything realistic instead of being really just a superhero movie. I remember watching Spiderman and noting just how shit the whole plot was, how hard they tried to beat down on Peter Parker, how little of that enormous power he gains when he is Spiderman is displayed. How shit the CGI was.

The transformation was missing there for me, Peter Parker is a ordinary person yes, but he ain't a bitch. And they made him a bitch in the films, from the scenes were he is being pushed around campus, to his bubbling ways, to that horrible emo transformation. It was just wrong. It wasn't the spider man I remember reading about. I kept remember how much better the characters and plot line were better in the mid 90s Spiderman cartoon series, I watched them again worried that maybe my memories were rose tainted over time. But no. They weren't the cartoon series understood the character better then the film, they ran with it, they transported the comic book to its own universe and played with it. And it was awesome.
