Triple Human Botfly removal

dag says...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

Are. They are here in Brisbane- as an introduced pest. They are trying to wipe them out, but I think it's a losing battle.>> ^sillybapx:

So, are there, or aren't there fire ants in Australia?
>> ^dag:
Man, I hope these never make it to Australia- like fire ants.

Americans - Where to live when the USA economy collapses

vaporlock says...

The cold kills off the pests that will eat you in small bites and infect you with things that will make you miserable. Never-mind what happens to water in a warm climate. Anyone who would want to be in Mississippi during the Apocalypse hasn't traveled much. People would be hunting you... on your farm (frost????).

Food That Kills

enoch says...

the green explosion has definately saved lives and helped feed a growing population.
so on that note i agree with rottenseed.GM produce that needs less water and can reproduce under harsh conditions and still yield a prosperous harvest is always a good thing.there is a trade off though and many times that trade of is nutritional content and sadly..flavor.
when is the last time you had a tomato that actually TASTED like a tomato?
but as of now there has been no evidence that GM produce is bad for us with the exception of certain corns and grains(thanks monsanto fuckheads)which were spliced with toxic bacteria to kill certain pests.now grant you...this corn and grain is for animal feed but WHO ends up EATING the fucking animals?
seewhatimsayin?
as for hormone laden poultry/beef and pork.well if you think that is fine then you have no clue what hormones job is concerning, well, just about every system in your body.so one day if you wake up with a nice pair of titties dont come cryin to me.
and smugglarn i think you are missing the point.nobody is saying that plants are evil, nor is anybody here worshipping them.so your argument is pretty lame and if you think creating a plant gene that kills itself right before germination or seeds that will only germinate if sprayed with a certain toxic pest repellant is okie dokie.well then my friend i think it may be you who suffers from a mild case of ignorance.

lets remember that agriculture was the very first thing man learned to begin his climb towards civilizations and when huge agro-business attempts to discard 10,000 years of cultural learning, disciplines and knowledge.passed down through the generations.humanity has actually changed many plant life to his own purpose..forced evolution.to give an example:mexico has 180 species of maize(corn),america has?----4.
why?huge multi-national conglomerates who dominate the food markets.it is not farmer joe down the street who gets 3 million is subsidies but rather general mills.so much of the trouble is really with geo-politics and corporate malfeasance and absolutely nothing to do with plants being "good" or "evil".

all this doctor was doing was presenting pretty plain and simple facts and had slides to shock us.
which is a very effective tool.message?
know what the fuck you are putting into your body..pretty simple message.it is your choice to listen or disregard.
and just a side note:for those atkins diet lovers.if you had any idea what that diet does to your kidneys and liver after three weeks you would never go on that diet....ever.
and monsanto is EVIL....no really..they are fucking evil.

Should We Bring back the Siftquisition? (redux) (User Poll by dag)

peggedbea says...

no. never. never ever ever ever. never.

is anyone even being a pest lately?
usually, i mean since billoreilly and captainplanet were taken out, anyone pushing the envelope (that isnt a self linking probie spammer worthy of an instaban) is a seasoned member who isn't doing any real harm, gets hobbled immediately and no one would vote to ban them anyway.

you're opening up a slippery slope with this. "so and so got banned for this and this, but we didnt even call a siftquisition on this so and so for this similar thing". siftquisistions amount to nothing but unnecessary drama (remember burdturgler vs. usesprozac) or a place to make a public mockery of the whole process (remember thinker247 vs. peggedbea, yes, we were laughing hysterically at anyone taking it seriously).

we have hobblings to render anyone intent on doing any damage powerless immediately. and even that's ridiculous most of the time, but i don't object to it being an option in the case of someone abusing the discard or downvote button. but think that's pretty much the only time it should be used. the last time a rash of hobblings and discussion of bannings broke out it was over a provocative video that promoted healthy debate and i thought that was the point anyway? to foster intelligent conversation and healthy debate? seasoned members pushing the envelope and forcing us to redefine ourselves or reexamine ourselves is not a bad thing.

in cases of personal profile abuse, i really don't ever want to see that become a public spectacle ever ever again. especially since tone and intent are so hard to clearly distinguish online. and people are allowed to squabble and dislike each other and most of the time its just a joke anyway. leave that between the people involved and admins if it's really out of hand.

i will say that i think the ignore feature could use a tweak, maybe we could make it impossible for anyone you have on ignore to leave a comment on your profile. that would take care of profile abuse "i don't like what you're saying to me, so i'm not going to let you say it here anymore." done. no need for further drama.

US Border Patrol tries to take passenger's camera

blankfist says...

>> ^littledragon_79:
Wow, the y/t poster is a paranoid moron. He should try reading the law as to how/where CBP are allowed to operate. And if he doesn't like it write his reps or run for office. Since the checkpoint is inland, he would be fine then with the local SO or State Police running it? Or maybe the FBI or military? And an illegal working for CBP? Nice try.
I know there's a lot of anti-establishment, the cops are always wrong, we live in a police state mentality here, but don't get too paranoid folks. The cops aren't always wrong, sometimes they need to use force (but F tasers), we don't live in Nazi Germany, and we should be vigilant in keeping government in check. But harassing these guys is like harassing a Walmart greeter because you don't like their policies. Dick move.
As for the whole camera thing, who cares if the guy has a camera. Do your job, and don't be a dick about it. Although, my instructors old us not to advertise that we were BP Agents and try not to have pics taken...since some cartels have bounties out for killing Agents.

The y/t poster is paranoid. I doubt the border patrol agent is "illegal", though that's incidental. First, BP are nothing like Walmart greeters. That's a bad analogy. Harassing someone who wants to keep you from freely moving in a supposed free country and trying to steal your private property is nothing like harassing a gentle underpaid elderly woman saying hi to everyone entering Walmart. The BP are pests and abuse their power constantly.

And, yes, we do live in a police state once the government recognizes it has a right to kill its own citizens without due process. There's nothing paranoid about noticing the increased security measures that encroach on our liberties, or states forcing subversives to register, or little 12-year old girls being marched out of class wearing handcuffs, or the countless cases where law enforcement destroy videotape evidence, or the endless beat first ask questions later cases, or local and state police being supplied military weapons by the Pentagon, or being arrested for videotaping officers, or the use of sedatives on the public by police officers.

That's just to name a few.

UsesProzac (Member Profile)

qualm says...

Ok, let me explain. It's become obvious by the idiotic messages you leave for me that you'd like to be a silly pest or get under my skin somehow. And you think making these little remarks of yours, about what you imagine the state of my mental health to be, etc. will bring about the desired result. (Like, perhaps you want me to get my head into a big boiling froth and lose my temper and go completely insane like gwiz does; that is, whenever I wish him to. lol)

But you're going about it all wrong, little buddy. (It's going to be hard for me to take you at all seriously while you crawl along this line of effort - remember your nickname is "UsesProzac," ie. between the two of us, you're the one with a history of mental health "issues.")

So let me give you some pointers. If you want to make me upset you'll have to post racist, classist, sexist, homophobic commentary, or material that is in some other fashion demeaning to human beings. (Actually it's not possible to make me upset, but it will be fun to watch you try.)

Best of luck, sweetheart!

In reply to this comment by UsesProzac:
Like you would know anything about sense and making it.

In reply to this comment by qualm:
You're not making any sense.

In reply to this comment by UsesProzac:
..I really, honestly urge you to continue with your medications. Ginkgo biloba is not a fitting replacement for thorazine.

This Place Has Been Amazing, But It's Time To Leave :) (History Talk Post)

gwiz665 says...

Since you so much want to dig in this grave of lost souls, qualm, I might as well make a final response.

My position has not changed in any way. I have apologized for the act I did to Ivy and she accepted it. That's the extent of what I did. Everything else here is bullshit; peggedbea lied about a bunch of stuff, alien_concept overreacted, rash is a self-righteous idiot and so are you. Nothing more to it. I don't miss the Rachel that posted this, but I do miss the Rachel that I befriended long before this.

I think peggedbea is a sack of shit, but there we are - obviously she's not too fond of me either, but that's her problem. Ivy and bea, especially bea, need to learn that words have meaning too and they had a part in grooming the environment that lead to all this.

There are a bunch of people who responded in this thread who have no idea what they're talking about, someone like MinXyMoo, who seems to just be a sock-puppet account of any of the haters - I've never interacted with that piece of shit, so how can he/she make the accusations that they did? I should have instabanned the account for the personal attack out of the blue.

I've no need to apologize for anymore of this. Anyone else who posts in this post can go fuck themselves, like you should qualm. Go die somewhere, alone, miserable, angry at the world that shunned your pest-ridden cadaver.

How (Not) to Catch a Huntsman Spider

dag says...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

We have lots of huntsmen in and around our house here in Brisbane. They eat other pests so we treat them kind of like working pets. It is weird to be watching a DVD or something and see one walking across the floor. They hunt at night.

Vertical Farms - Indoor Hydroponic Agriculture

raverman says...

Sure, ask at a farmers market? people who think because it the food is sold under dinky stands that it wasn't covered in pesticides.

In a controlled environment like this where pests, nutriants, air pollution, and even bacterias can be completely controlled from seed to delivery without antibotics - the food is likely to be far healthier. Potentially even organic certified as long as the process is carefully controlled.

Unfortunately it's when greed steps in and the ethics of producing healthy food gets completely abandoned. And since this takes money and investment it's almost guaranteed they would move to GM food's, articitial growth cycles and hormones, lower the nutriants but increase the speed and out put of the factory line etc...

Wanda Sykes on Karma

MilkmanDan says...

Wanda Sykes is great, and that's an amusing anecdote. I somewhat agree that being overly cruel to any animal, including a pest like a mouse, should be avoided. And maybe throwing a live one into a burning fire counts as being overly cruel.

Which is why I will stick to using the nice old fashioned mouse traps that instantly kill the little bastards by bludgeoning them with a high-speed metal rod that dents their skull in half.

So now that we've witnessed a mating display, we should be able to determine when rutting season is, and extrapolate an appropriate hunting season.
Note to Fish and Wildlife: there is an over abundance of these beasts, they've reached pest numbers in some regions. I suggest no restriction on the number of tags released in the first few seasons, in order to diminish their numbers before they devastate the environment for other species.

I heard that entirely in an Australian accent in my head.

*wtf?

"A man is released from prison and finds the society on the outside less than appealing. With several women as well as the police on his tail, he sets out to find an old friend."

Not seeing how any audio from that would apply here.. weird. That thing is so cute though!
