I tend to agree with you. It is an oddly dated piece. But I still think she is a fascinating figure in the 'art world'. Ugh. Hate that word.

More interesting, because it ties in with her impulse to conserve a possibly unconservable art form, is the way “The Artist Is Present” attempts to control time, hers and ours.

I have no idea what her experience of sitting in that atrium for all those hours will be; there has to be some serious agony involved, which is where she hooks up with her implacably daredevil younger self. But my guess is that her presence will have a demonstrable effect on visitors to the museum; that it will slow them down, get them out of drive-by looking mode.

And every now and then someone will slip into that chair across from her — that’s what it’s there for — and spend some time exchanging stares, or energy, or going blank, or thinking, maybe for the first time, about that hard, high-flown, funny word “endure.”

second, this does nothing for me unfortunately. I appreciate the time that went into this, but it's not beautiful, it doesn't show anything deep about the people she sat with, its just.. sitting.

Is this... Is this performance art? Some kind of post-modern commentary on wedding DJs?

Something really bothers me about these "let's screw with the public and see how they react" stories. Partly because it stinks of manufacturing the news. Partly because it takes truly important issues and twists them into the most sensational and least informative story possible.

Besides the narration, notice about 80% of what's shown was their own actors going through the script. And that's really what the segment is about, enraging the viewer with carefully scripted and emotionally charged dialogue the "news producers" have come up with. At least the old rage news stories about how every repairman and autoshop is trying to screw you seemed more honest. They really are trying to screw you. Stepping in on racist performance art is, at least for now, less of a problem.

So it doesn't matter whether you think "gay" is a punchline to a joke, or a way to describe something as bad, or just a metaphor in an ever evolving lexicon.
Unless the post is dealing with homosexuality or related, it doesn't belong in that channel.

It's getting harder and harder to believe Fox News isn't the most expensive piece of performance art ever. Or maybe they are stunned that they can get away with the ridiculous nonsense they broadcast and are trying to figure out just how far they can push it.

If you ever get a chance, he did an episode of Great Performances on PBS back in the early 1990's (In Motion with Michael Moschen), which not only showed his contact juggling skills but some of his other performance art. He does this dance with a steel ring where after a while, his movements have become so fluid and isolated, he looks like he's playing with a giant soap bubble. Killer stuff, along with his normal juggling skills. Sadly, it was only ever available on VHS through WGBH's storefront, and I don't think it's ever been released on DVD.
