Michio Kaku: Can Nanotechnology Create Utopia?

entr0py says...

I knew Dr. Kaku's use of the word "parasites" would be like a dog whistle to conservatives. But it also doesn't make any sense. In a world with replicators you would be fully self-sufficient just by owning a replicator. If no one else is conceivably taken advantage of (no host), the parasite analogy falls apart.

Michio Kaku: Can Nanotechnology Create Utopia?

Hey it's the Obama/Taxocrat philosophy summarized beautifully at 3:53--3:57.

As has already been proven, only 3% to 5% becoming parasites is optimistic. Right now in the USSA, parasites number 100 million out of 300 million.

What I find really grating is not her vitriolic tone (like most of you, this week I enjoy watching republicans acting like douchebags in a sad attempt at hiding their despair).

What I find grating is that the vitriolic, inarticulate parasite is the one being a CNN contributor, taking the job of an actual pundit. Note the word 'inarticulate' here: if you're paid to argue on TV (and regardless of how useful it is) you're expected to do better than throw nothing but invectives for five minutes. If you can't even do that, then please stay at Fox News.

What if the government was your worst enemy

Yogi says...

For the same reason a kid gives the bully his lunch money.
The American people are sitting on an estimated 2 trillion dollars. They will not invest, hire or start new businesses with Obama in the White House. And rightly so. The parasites--however you choose to define them--just want their MTV.

Spain is in serious trouble because it spends too much money, money it does not have...

QM, Pennypacker et al... They will respond to this in one of two ways:
1- "That's what these Spanish OWS losers get! go get a job!"
2- "This is what Obama is going to bring to America!"
Both are equally repulsive, and fictions of their imagination.

If the Market didn't like Obama, why does it support him soo much monetarily? You need to do your homework man, it's the Rich against guys like us, join the proper side.

Any evidence for any of this will be welcomed.

I dislike the careless use of the term "rich", it needs a more refined distinction.
A lot of people who are rich are honest and productive to society. They're also needed to help this country out of its recession.
Others are rich because they steal from society or benefit directly from the governments or the Fed, the institutions that steals the most.
So there are the productive rich (good), and the destructive rich or squanderers (bad)
Carry on.

How about we call the destructive "parasites" instead?

Ridiculously Cute Cat And Baby Sleep Over

chingalera says...

"Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic disease caused by the protozoan Toxoplasma gondii. The parasite will infect most genera of warm-blooded animals, including humans, but the primary host is the felid (cat) family. The parasite spreads by the ingestion of infected meat or the feces of an infected cat, or by vertical transmission from mother to fetus....Recent research has also linked toxoplasmosis with brain cancer, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and schizophrenia."-WKI

Leaked Video of Romney at Fundraiser -- You're all moochers!

quantumushroom says...

So far, there's nothing here said by anyone that justifies a second Obama term. The facts don't support his policies, nor do results. The idea that we need to give Ears "more time" is a joke. Are you going to say the same thing in 2016 when 4 more years of obamafail have brought us to the brink?

@VoodooV, you're right about a 2nd Civil War, which is imminent. All Romney can do is buy us a little more time. This tyrannical government won't be stopped and can wait out even 8 years of a Romney presidency. The borders are still open, the regulations are piling up and people are enraged by the lack of fair play, and by people I mean producers of any kind, not the parasites.

Sometimes blood in the streets is the only way to get rulers' attention, regardless of party.

Leaked Video of Romney at Fundraiser -- You're all moochers!

NetRunner says...

To me, it's a bit of a relief to have tape of Mitt Romney talking like your average far-right Randian asshole.

The biggest thing Romney had going for him was that the press was never going to try to push him to speak plainly about what he really believes, and let him just fill the airwaves with platitudes and sneers.

Even in his "press conference" he held last night to respond to this, he said that basically this is what he's meant by his public comments thusfar. In other words, that his opponents are all parasites and leeches who must be burned off the face of the earth in order for America to prosper.

You know, conservatism.

Horsehair Worm Coming out of a Praying Mantis - Ewwwwww

kceaton1 says...

Yeah...the day we get a virus, bacteria, or straight up parasitic organism that can tell our brains to do certain things--I'm quiting the human species (I might be overstating it, but I certainly will become very paranoid concerning certain conditions, if you understand me), assuming it looks like this is going to be able to be spread via a fairly hardy species of: younameit. Zombies are one thing, but seriously I REALLY, REALLY, do not want these type of attacks to EVER reach us. Could you even imagine?

On the other side of things, I wonder if that is considered as the best dump evAr.(?) Second, it seems like it just a GREAT species as it seemingly has atleast two worms from the onset of infection (although it looked to me as though there was atleast one more still to come). I mean can the Praying Mantis even survive this event? Is it now the Prayed Upon Mantis instead?

All of the fungi, insects, and other species that use mind or nuerochemicals on their prey and then FORCE their prey to do any sort of commands to do miscellaneous things (like this one, get to water the natural home for that creature). It's literally amazing and terrifying at the same time. My scientific side is extremely engrossed by this and I'm literally in wonder at the amazing biochemistry at play--needed to do this hijack of the mind and to literally reboot it with a new program that told a FOREIGN BODY, something with literally no connection to the predator, it took control and got that body to go to a body of water so that the "litter" could hatch in their primal environment--a TRUE wonder of evolution, even though it is used in such a terrible way, it may have huge things in store for us research wise.

I'm waiting for the day that one of these little bastards makes a little leap and crosses-over and affects humans. Could you even begin to imagine the panic? I imagine that whatever it is would be much like smallpox and shortly after a few infections it would be eliminated from the face of the planet.

Mormons Bury Kitten Alive In Concrete

Porksandwich says...

Whoever can do this to anything that is clearly going to suffer and for the sole purpose of it suffering, they need to be put down as they are a very cruel individual.

As for the life aspect:

I think the argument for when is someone alive is very to similar for when is it time to consider pulling the plug on someone.

If someone can't survive on their own without extreme external measures, it really isn't a self sustaining life.

One day they might be able to cut off your head and keep you aware.....most people wouldn't consider that a life unless you could react or communicate. Much like a coma patient is not kept indefinitely once it becomes unlikely they will ever be able to function on their own.

A fetus up to a certain point is unable to survive outside the womb, it's more akin to a parasite at that stage....even though that sounds like a horrible comparison and isn't quite exact. But it's closer to a parasite than a carried to term baby if it can't survive outside of the mother's body. At that point it's a part of the mother's body and not it's own functional entity. Not that babies are particularly adept at feeding themselves or anything, but they won't die at any moment if left unattended for a bit.
