Can Paper Cut Wood?

The Revenant - Teaser Trailer

StukaFox says...

Holy shit -- I thought I was godly because I put a Band-Aid on a paper cut last week and went on about my day.

Basically he got tore up by a grizzly, managed to climb on it's back and start knifing it to death, and then fell to the ground when his companions finished it with rifles. The leader figured he was dead soon, so he told the other two guys to bury him when he died and catch up after.

The history is a bit muddled on whether they got scared by Indians or just stole his stuff and left, but either way they took all of his gear and hoofed it. When they caught up, they told the leader that he had died.

So Hugh came to, with no gear, covered in a fresh bear skin they had taken off the bear. He was suffering from a broken leg, the cuts on his back exposing bare ribs, and all his wounds festering. He was 200 miles from the nearest fort, with nothing to help him and surrounded by hostile Indians.

He crawled, surviving on roots, berries, and remains of animal kills. His back became gangrenous, so he lay on a rotten log and let maggots eat the dead and rotten tissue away. Later he was found by a friendly tribe that sewed the bear skin to his back to cover his exposed ribs and gave him some supplies. When he finally reached the Cheyenne river, he fashioned a crude raft and floated down the river to the fort.

Everyone thought he had died, but he recovered fully. Later he decided he would avenge himself on the two that left him behind, but he spared one because he was too young and one because he had joined the army and was kind of untouchable. The young guy was Jim Bridger, who became a famous mountain man himself as he got older.

Why Do Paper Cuts Hurt So Much?

00Scud00 says...

Copper still resents us for switching to zinc to make pennies.
And paper is definitely not smooth edged, every time I get a paper cut time seems to slow down and I can swear I feel every bump like a tiny buzz saw ripping through my skin.

Scythe vs. Weed Whacker

Because weed whackers weren't designed for cutting large areas. This is like comparing paper cutting speed with scissors vs. nail clippers.

How Sifter CHINGALERA Treats His Toys!!!

chingalera says...

SO the set-up for this one take was

1 Col. George Taylor POA Heston doll (Snapped on E-Bay when Heston died, new -in-box)
1-paper cut-out Statue of Liberty lower, left frame)
2-Estes D rockets, duct-taped to back
1-scavenged fuse from leftover Chinese sky-candy
1-Micro-cassette recording of National Anthem (Foley)
1 FUJI Finepix F1000

The tree-bounce-around is off-camera....only one recording of that so here it is: As soon as he leaves frame he's in the tree and barley freed himself of the tangled bounce in the top before ditching in the pond at full throttle-Had he made air he had about 40 feet up inna swirl before thrust would have pooped-out.

...done this before so any way it could have gone might have-

At the end he stands up, sees a broken plastic model of the statue of liberty and realizes, my god, this is Earth.

Planet of the Ladies flies by the Sun

Trancecoach says...

No, I did not see the light bleed at the space center. I imagine what you're seeing (and I see it too in this video) could be the result of the digital video processing of the image, after the fact.>> ^messenger:

To be clear, you too noticed the background image of the sun coming through the planet Venus live at the Space Centre?>> ^Trancecoach:
I saw it with mine own eyes yesterday (at the Chabot Space Center in Oakland, CA).. It's not an effect.>> ^messenger:
If this is the real deal, then how come I can see the sun through the "planet"? Aren't planets opaque? Watch as "Venus" starts to cross in front of the sun, like at the 1:00 mark, for example. You can see the sun right through it. Same on almost every one. Sure this isn't a paper cut-out or a post-effect?

Mein Gott, a conspiracy! My guess: camera artifact, bleeding of the light surrounding the planet.
