Squirrel jumps on UPS delivery man

luxintenebris jokingly says...

i surmise another theory.

red (its nickname) is voting blue, mistaken UPS for USPS - squirrels scan too fast (do the same): misread - and was making sure his absentee ballot had arrived.

red reckoned the blunder then rapidly retreated.

or maybe the order from 'nest, birdbath and beyond' was due.

no. the owner/tenant likely feeds the damn thing and its gotten bold. the females here do the same. live in fear that if COVID doesn't get me, rabies or bubonic plague will. they approach any departure like rodent paparazzi (not really much of a differential from the 'regular' paparazzi). the kid left a toy van 'neath a tree; immediately thought the bastards were changing tactics. NO! it's not paranoia! you saw want they did to that USPS guy!

((((they watch from the trees!!!))))

Inside America's First Private Terminal For Millionaires

SFOGuy says...

Sure, why not? I mean...have you ever seen the footage of a clearly exhausted Matt Damon coming into LAX with his wife and kids---and quietly, but tiredly, asking TMZ video and the paparazzi to please leave them alone on this pass because: kids and tired?

It's hard to be sympathetic all the celebrities--they want attention and then they don't. But everyone who was hunted by cameras all the time---well, why not ask your agent to get the studio to pay for this?

Pres. Trump Tweets Vid of Himself Physically Attacking CNN

MilkmanDan says...

I agree that a disturbed person with more power is a bigger problem. To go straight for the Godwin's Law example, there have probably been people more evil and messed up than Hitler in the history of Earth, but very few had the power and opportunity to act on that evil to the magnitude he did.

However, you brought up magnitude of problems and compared the two as "equally disturbed". The Republican Congressman (with admittedly more power/influence) "body-slammed" a reporter. The Democrat nutcase shot up 6 people and (I think) didn't manage to kill any of them, but not for lack of trying.

We don't really know what was going on in either persons' heads when they did these things. What led up to them, etc. Maybe the reporter had been doggedly following and questioning/harassing the Congressman to such an extent that he snapped. Happens quite a lot with paparazzi, and we tend to give the celebrity targets a lot of benefit of the doubt in those cases. The only long-term result of the bodyslam incident that I know of is that the reporter's glasses were broken. Glasses can be repaired or replaced. Bullet wounds are rather tougher to fix.

However my main point isn't to get into a dick-measuring contest about who did more harm or who is more fucked up. My point is that the person entirely responsible in either incident is known. GOP Congressman physically assaulted a reporter of his own volition. Democrat nutcase shot up that baseball practice of his own volition. Those individuals are 100% responsible for what they did, no matter who or what they might claim drove them to their actions. Just like it isn't Ozzy Osbourne's fault when some nutter offs themselves after listening to his song "Suicide Solution", or John Carmack's fault for Columbine even though Klebold and Harris liked playing Doom.

Sure. But the Republican that was referenced isn't some whack-job nobody that is simply a registered Republican, he's a Representative in the US Congress.

When the powerless and disturbed lash out violently, it's unfortunate. When a person equally disturbed and violent has real power, it's a much bigger problem.

You have no right to remain silent in Henrico County.

newtboy says...

Nope. I still don't see it, sorry.
There's still no reason for them to do anything about your scenario. News organizations do that kind of filming daily with no problem, so the filming's obviously not a problem. It wasn't a 'filming restricted' area, so there's no reason to investigate why he's filming at all, other than they don't want to be filmed, which is still not a reason to contact him.
Do I see a reason the cops might be nervous about him in your scenario, yes. Do I see a reason in that scenario for them to break the law and arrest him, or even detain him? Absolutely not.

Here, he broke no law, and they had no indication he had, so they really had no reason to contact him at all, and certainly no reason to continue once he informed them he's availing himself of his legal rights and not talking to them (which he had no obligation to do, but he did so out of courtesy to let them know WHY he wasn't answering them so they know there's nothing wrong, something they should know already, and not something that's provocative at all).

Or do you think police SHOULD act this way towards any paparazzi? Those tools often do get provocative, but they never get arrested over it.

Babymech said:

Maybe it's easier to see why some people think he's a tool if you imagine that he hadn't been arrested. Let's say that this was a day before his action, and he tells you that he's going out to the FBI to film the building, all entrances, and the people coming and going. He tells you that he is doping this to test their reaction, and he expects the cops to interact with him, but that he won't say a single word to them until / unless they overstep their boundaries.

You would agree with him at that point, I assume, that what he's planning is legal, but wouldn't you also have a sense that maybe he was being a bit unreasonably provocative? That that's the 'tool' aspect of his perfectly legal action?

The Coup -- Magic Clap

eric3579 says...

[Hook x2]
Clap
Magic Clap

It's like a hotwire, baby
When we put it together
When the sparks fly
We'll ignite the future forever
This is the last kiss Martin ever gave to Coretta
It's like a paparazzi picture when I flash my Beretta
I got scars on my back
The truth on my tongue
I had the money in my hand when that alarm got rung
We wanna breathe fire and freedom from our lungs
Tell Homeland Security
We are the bomb

[Hook x2]

Hurry up, get in, close the do'
This here the meeting for the overthrow
Waiting on that concrete rose to grow
Doing lines that ain't quotable
Counting up all that dough you owe
You ain't sposed to know its opposable
We are not disposable
Muscle up kid
We got blows to throw
Til the folks have risen
There'll be no decision
We make the motor move
They chauffer driven
Right now we can't shine right like a broken prism
I figured out the 14th is a broke amendment

[Hook x2]

Good evening
Tonight we bring to you
Worn out streets that'll sing to you
.45 shells that'll dance to the beats
Stomachs so loud it'll cancel the speech
Checks that vanish if you blink an eye
Grace getting locked in the clink to die
A salary cap on a birth certificate
Notarized lies that burst in triplicate
Morning prayers for the car to start
A man and a whiskey in a heart-to-heart
Hope in a track suit to flash and run
While agony chases with a badge and gun
Poetry shouted from the squeal of the bus breaks
Hands in the air try to feel for an escape
Flash in my eyes like candid snaps
When we slap back, it's the magic clap

Loud Mouth Dummy Making Trouble For Himself

oohlalasassoon says...

^ I don't know guys, I still say if I had to choose which of these dipshits to defend it'd be the biker guy. I wouldn't defend his actions because they're obviously idiotic. Check. I get that part. But I can respect that he actually speaks his mind to pseudo-journalists like these. They're scum and are a sideways step from paparazzi. Does the biker not have a point that it's rude to film people without their authorization? Who here likes that?
