Australians Try Outback Steakhouse For The First Time

lucky760 says...

Yeah, duhhh, of course it's not going to be authentically Australian. Like the tasters said, their shrimps would be tiny and eaten plain with tomato sauce.

There's very little foreign authenticity in American restaurants, and if there is an authentic representation of another country's restaurant, it's more than likely targeted at immigrants who need that authenticity because Americans don't like Vegemite.

Not only chains, but even locally-owned restaurants change their recipes to appeal to as many Americans as possible. Everything else is just marketing.

In any case, I like these videos. Just would've been better if it wasn't all completely one-sided with no surprises. Can't wait to see Panda Express and Taco Bell next.

Hitler tries to rent an apartment in San Francisco

shagen454 says...

I lived in many places in SF from 2001-2011, TL, SOMA, Bernal Heights, Lower-Haight and for a longer while in the Mission.

Never paid more than $550.

Been living in Oakland the last year - have a house 2 small blocks from BART, 1 stop to SF (although there is no need) 7 bedrooms, 2 roommates, 3 bathrooms, 2 living rooms, large backyard (with many fantastic substances growing), laundry room... and still do not pay over $550 and Oakland is where all the cool people are anyway these days + Quality of life in my opinion is much better especially because the cost of living is a lot lower since I'm not being nickel & dimed (One Dollared) everywhere I go. I can walk to work without any fucking stupid fucks saying a fucking word to me, I could take the bus and not sit in fucking piss & blood and it isn't crowded usually 1 or 2 people on the bus.

Been in SF a few times over the year to see Acid Mother's Temple, Meshuggah and also Panda Bear live...but Oakland even has better Mexican food so it's increasingly off my radar.

Best of Hitchslap: Part One

Chairman_woo says...

@lantern53 See I'm not really an atheist, but I tend to side with them in 90% of arguments like this because of the terrible reasoning people like yourself make.

There is room to manoeuvre but it has to have rational and/or empirical rigour. Straw man arguments and black & white thinking will do little but embarrass oneself.

@Jinx nailed it with this line:
"So you're saying that, like love, God is all in your head?"

^That is about the only line of argument you could have made stick. Idea's like God's and love etc. exist in our minds and one could reasonably argue that this constitutes a kind of "existence" insofar as they affect the "reality" we experience, "reality" as we experience it is necessarily at least in part a product of the mind. (to be clear such things can ONLY be said to exist in our minds and collective imagination in lieu of material evidence)

The above at the very least moves the argument to one of materialism vs idealism. "Scientific Materialists" will still disagree as they refute the existence of mind as anything other than an illusion created by the interactions of matter and energy, but philosophically speaking that argument will at least go somewhere (hopefully phenomenology and existentialism if you think it through enough!).

If you'd gone that way I could have jumped in to try and help. But instead you used cheap shot logical fallacies even a 1st year theology student would balk at.

Why does no one write odes to the Turbo Grafix 16? It was AMAZING for a 1990 hand held, playing all the regular turbo grafix games AND being a handheld TV. Nothing else came close for nearly a decade (if then), but no one else has love for the turbo. That makes me a sad panda.

Yeah, saw this ages ago... and there is clearly an Ohio State banner behind her, so the Knicks and Wizards had nothing to do with it, but that is what a recent Reddit thread said... she may have been at the Knicks/Wizard game, but this was from when she was at Ohio State...

Intelligent cow knows how to use a hand pump to draw water

poolcleaner says...

Red queen effect: Parasitic humans feed off of the cow, steals the natural flowing water and installs human-centric water holes. In competition with the human parasite the cow is forced to learn to use the water pump. And thus the arms race between cow and human.

Who will win?

My money is that humans destroy themselves and cow survives, finally free of it's parasitic relationship with the upright mammals. They then go on to evolve into upright cow people. Only to encounter the humans again.

They then join with the radioactive green humans (nuclear fallout survivors) and zombie humans (the ones that didn't survive the fallout but were taken over by parasites of their own) to kill the humans, many of whom are dwarves and really small midgets.

Some hippies that bonded with trees are found to have survived, each with their own vision of what it is to be a tree hugger. Some of them join the humans (with their now dominant midget genes) and some of them join the green humans and cow people.

Along the way we discover that in China pandas have evolved into panda people and all along there were werewolves and shit. Including dimensions made entirely of fire with slimes that thrive off of radiation, only to become what is perceived as fire elementals and H.P. Lovecraft's things were real too. Oh and the entire pantheon of all people from all of time.

Society rebuilds itself but war never changes.
