Don't speak english? Alabama Police Have Something For You

eric3579 says...

The D.A.s office and the police department are very chummy usually as they are always on the same team when prosecuting people. So there is that relationship that has to be overcome when prosecuting a police officer. Often tough to do.

The DA is also employed by the city same as the police force. Funds for both come from the same place.

A DAs decision to prosecute with the potential of finding a police officer guilty of abuse makes the possibility of the city losing a lawsuit due to police misconduct/abuse much greater. So the DA on top of going after their everyday working partners(the police) are also fucking with their employers money. Never a wise move for any department or employed person.

So what happens? The police are rarely held accountable for what they do. When you allow them to act out and never punish them for the abuse why would they change? You actually are constantly moving the line back in the way of what they can get away with.

Things tend to change pretty quick when you mess with peoples money.

Of course its just how i read these types of situations

Need More Proof That The Music Industry Is Fake? Here You Go

Grimm says...

Also to be fair that's a bunch of bullshit...the technology exists to overcome all of those issues. You really can't count it as she IS singing if no one can hear it and what they can hear is a pre-recorded track...one that was most likely auto-tuned so even THAT isn't a live pre-recording.

I just don't get the logic of the fans and the defenders....you like the music you "hear" on the radio...you like the music you "hear" on your CDs or MP3s. When you are paying top dollar to "hear" and now "see" that music performed live why is it OK to let the "live music" slide and be sacrificed for a dog and pony show that doesn't have anything to do with the music you were drawn to in the first place?

Also, to be fair, when someone doesn't have a loop back of their voice, and there's tons of sound so they can't hear themselves directly, it's like a deaf person singing. Britney IS singing. This would not be accurately described as lip-sync as in the Milli Vanilli crap. This is definitely "overdubbing" with the second track being edited out. Also, as she knows her voice isn't actually being amplified, she's not really trying. This isn't an Autotuned performance either.

The Cicret Bracelet-Concept/Scam/Want

AeroMechanical says...

It's a brilliant idea, I'd patent it. I believe it could be done (there are projector modules that would almost fit in their form factor), but only at an extraordinarily high price and with other major shortcomings like power usage that would need to be overcome.

Also, the unavoidable shadow your finger would cast but which they leave out of the mock up videos would be a problem.

Putin was interviewed by a German public broadcaster. A video of it can be found here, but it's in Russian/German, unsurprisingly. As of now, RT is the only source I found for a proper English translation of the entire interview.

Anyway, it is quite disturbing to once again see just how different it sounds from what is being reported about him. The press make him sound like a power-crazed looney, yet of all the heads of state, this old spook is just about the only stable, calm, composed and diplomatic entity in the entire discussion. They call him out for an apparent unwillingness to talk, yet there he is, offering one olive branch after another.

Poroshenko is talking about getting ready for total war, yet to the media, and to folks like Abbott and Cameron, everything bad about the situation can be traced back to Putin.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: the way the press and some state officials are pushing for an open conflict with Russia, a century after the start of the First World War, 75 years after the start of the Second World War, sends chills down my spine. It is pure madness on a scale I thought we had overcome by now.

Colbert interviews Anita Sarkeesian

SDGundamX says...

@Enzoblue

Thunderf00t is probably the least level-headed response you will find. His video is terrible for a lot of reasons, mostly because he does all the same things Anita Sarkessian is accused of doing (for example, cherry-picking) to an exponential degree, but I recommend you watch it anyway and draw your own conclusions.

As much as some Gamergate supporters would like the movement to be about ethics in gaming journalism, it has its roots in a witch-hunt started by claims from a jilted ex-boyfriend that his girlfriend (Zoe Quinn) slept with reporters to get good reviews--claims that were later shown to be completely untrue but not before the Gamergate movement had found a cause to rally around. From the very start, the movement had trouble separating actual journalistic ethical problems (i.e. gifts from game publishers to game reviewers... see pretty much any tweet or video by TotalBiscuit about Gamergate for a reasoned overview of the problems) from anti-feminist screeds against Zoe Quinn, Anita Sarkeesian, and later Brianna Wu. And it only got worse over time.

To understand why people might be opposed to Sarkeesian's critiques, you should probably read: this article. Just to summarize the article's main thesis: there is a group of gamers out there who refuse to see a problem with the status quo and make the claim that anyone trying to point out a problem is demanding special privileges. This is not to say that Sarkeesian's critiques aren't without flaws. It is rather to explain how so many people got enraged by her analysis that they felt the need to personally attack her.

So, to put it in a nutshell, there ARE some problems with gaming journalism but they are akin to the same kinds of problems entertainment journalism has in general (Colbert's point). But there are also some serious problems with gaming culture that were brought under the magnifying glass by the whole Gamergate phenomenon.

Frankly, as a "hardcore gamer" (30+ years of gaming experience including games across dozens of consoles and the PC), watching the "debate" on the topic has been embarrassing to say the least. Gaming was finally overcoming the stigma and stereotypes that it had been shackled with before this thing blew up and made us look like the bunch of socially inept man-babies the rest of society assumed we were.

I think not only is it going to take years for our social image to recover, it is going to take years to overcome the toxicity that has pervaded the debate. People on both sides are seriously butt-hurt about how everything went down and the back and forth has been more on the emotional side than the intellectual, leading to lots of flame wars and very little critical reflection.

Can You Split A Card? - Annie Oakley - Trick Shot

MilkmanDan says...

I'm not an expert, but I've shot a lot of rifles and have some gun-nut friends. Basically, NO, that isn't a normal posture. However, it seems quite effective for her.

She is basically using the shelf of her pelvis as the "ground" point of her elbow, almost like the function of a tripod if you were going to shoot while prone. That isn't normal, but then her hand position on that arm is even weirder -- she is propping up the rifle with what looks like middle and ring fingers making a "v" shape, then pointer just in front of the trigger guard, and thumb on the trigger guard / lever. Very very weird -- in general most people would put that hand further out along the barrel and just grasp the wood there. That would normally be more effective because the wider the distance between the contact points with your hands, the more steady and fine your aim can be. BUT, she obviously knows what she is doing and is using the stability provided by resting her arm on her pelvis to overcome that. She's a way better shot than me, so I wouldn't classify any of what I've said as "criticism", just noting that she does certainly have an unusual style.

By sound and size, the rifle is probably a .22. A .22 that size can be quite light, which would work well with her style of holding the weapon. I'd imagine that trying that with a bigger rifle, especially with a longer barrel, would be uncomfortably heavy on the fingers she is using to prop up the weapon. Plus, higher calibers would kick enough to necessitate actually grasping the forestock instead of just resting it on fingertips.

Even when I was warned against kick and barrel-rise when shooting an AR-15 (basically an M-16), the first time surprised me how much the weapon will jolt upward on rapidly fired shots unless you are ready to compensate for it...

question for someone who knows about such things: is her posture normal for shooting a rifle? at 1:15 and 2:09 she seems to be arching her back backward with her hip forward. It looks really unnatural.

When all information regarding this topic needs to be filtered through "peer reviewed scientific studies" invariably funded by mega corporations who have nothing to gain from discovering whole plant based cures, your opinions will be more than a little biased.

Here's a few accounts:

"Ten months ago girlfriend was diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer. Immediately switch to all organics/non GMOS and started taking the oil. Half way into the treatment test results showed the lesion had shrunk half its size and was now precancerous. Last week new tests showed she is not only CANCER FREE but PREGNANT which they said may never happen. Rick Simpson I really owe you, brother. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.” Jason
“I have a good friend Scott with cerebral palsy. About 6yrs ago he was in and out of hospital, they just throw in meds at him. Finally his mom said there's got to be another way. After he went from 200 pounds to 110 we thought we were gonna lose him until he started consuming cannabis. After six months he was back to normal and put all the weight back on and takes half the meds. He has outlived 3 times over what doctors said and they say he's just lucky. I have other thought.” Shane
“This is my brother who the dr said he had 2 months with inoperable liver cancer. That was a year ago. His tumor has shrunk to 1/4 size. His tumor markers went from 5667 to 94. He is living proof. He still runs his own business. Both Northwestern in Chicago and Mayo clinic in Rochester Minnesota gave him that diagnosis. He consumes the oil.” Holley
“Thank God we found Rick’s site when we did..... I started the oil 4 months ago and the spot where my tumor was removed is closed up!!! They told my GBM stage 4. And I would die in a year and half. Been 15 months and feel better than ever.... We really want to tell the world!!!!! Saved my life for sure.” Rachel

What a Pilot Sounds Like With Extreme Hypoxia

lucky760 says...

Right, but that's obviously once he's well into it. I'm curious about how it starts and gets to that point.

Without any education on the subject, what I imagine is the cabin starts losing pressure, an alarm goes off, there's still enough oxygen in the pilot's blood/brain to reach for oxygen, etc.

Did the cabin lose pressure slowly without the pilot knowing about it or was he overcome so quickly he didn't have time to react or what else might have happened?

Jon Stewart's "Rosewater" Trailer

dannym3141 says...

Another video popped up with Kristen Stewart in it about camp x-ray after watching this one. The context might have been wrong, but i can understand why @billpayer said that - it's a terrible, terrible thing of which he speaks and it can feel frustrating when you care about those things but it seems to you like most forms of mainstream media only tell a certain side.

It is frustrating, and i doubt many people disagree with you that it's a monumental injustice, but the other side of the story does get told.. and i think the noticeable weighting is indicative of what the majority of people "want" to hear/believe rather than a calculated move to revise history (i.e. more cinema tickets will be sold by a movie in which a westerner overcomes perceived terrorism than one in which a light is shone on the possible human rights violations and illegal internment of innocent victims of the west's war on terror).

I was surprised by the 'kstew' trailer, looked ....intelligent and thoughtful?
