American Gods - Official Trailer

Lunatic fake feminist disturbs the relative peace

newtboy says...

To play devil's advocate....when she jumped in front of the 'protester' to interrupt his retarded soliloquy, she (lightly) bumped into him, and he moved her away. Then she gets irate, calls 'assault', jumps back in his face, and grabs the camera. At that point, I think they can defend themselves by shoving her away, and if she flops to the ground like a bad soccer player fishing for a foul and hurts herself, that's her problem not theirs. I would guess that's how the cops saw it, with her as the antagonist and instigator, a position that was reinforced when she fights the police too.
She over acted, they over reacted, she over acted again AND over reacted, they over reacted again, she over acted again, she went to jail.
Lots of sound and fury indicating nothing.

Also, the discussion that i was hoping for that never happened: are you allowed to push someone if they're "in your personal space" or something? I can't understand why they're not arrested too.

Back from the dead---A soccer player shocked back to life

SFOGuy says...

You know, I hadn't thought about that, but you're totally right. They were professional, on task, immediately responded appropriately---despite all the over-acting to draw penalties that pro-soccer players generate.

Smart refs.

Yogi said:

This happens to soccer players too often. People always talk about soccer being for pussies in the US but you try running that much, it's insanity and young men have serious heart failures. One was just as recent as last season in the Premier League, Fabrice Muamba.

He survived and later returned to White Hart Lane.

As a referee I must point out the excellent refereeing from both refs here. I mean there's so much fakery it's hard to know what's going on at times. Both refs handled the situations well.

I'm a mental fan of gervais and merchant (and karl) but i have to say that life's too short was god awful

So was the second An Idiot Abroad in my view. Just have them do more podcasts please!

I hated the first, loved the second... it was much more natural karl. Reminded me of xfm karl before he started egging it.

I just F'n hate the stupid calling Karl up bullshit. I want them to fucking BE there with him doing these things too or encouraging Karl in person. I don't want to watch someone on the phone with someone else it's retarded. Especially since what I want more than anything is for Karl to stop putting up with their "orders" and say "Fuck you I ain't doing it." He tried and FAILED to do that, and I'm sick of watching it.

Fair enough, but i have to say they don't come across well in the series, i think they may have made themselves look worse than they are. They're actually really good mates and a lot of what we see on TV now is kind of over-acting. Karl loves spending time with them, they're pretty much his only friends and if they didn't force him to maintain the frindship, he wouldn't ever see them cos he's such a miserable, set-in-his-ways, old-before-his-time fart. I don't think he's really being pressured or anything; they're acting more nasty than they are and he's acting more annoyed than he is.

I think he does get a bit of that in the 2nd series anyway though because he flat refuses to do the big challenge (won't spoil it) or at least lies. But i preferred it because we got to see him having to interact with other people that always failed to meet his requirements in any given errand and there was no way out of it - like the desert island one - so he had to just be his natural annoyed self with those people.

Man i could talk for england, and you might not have even meant that at all so i'll stop there. Oh but i agree i think it's utter shit having them just call up like fatcats. It just seems a bit weird. Make an itinerary at the start and let him work it out, or go with him. What did they do instead? Life's too fucking short?

@EMPIRE - Were you a fan of extras and the office though? I feel like this is the first of their comedies that has the appeal to people who'd like comedies i can't hack such as "my family"

Creepshow 2 - The Raft

Trout says...

"I beat you!"

So low-budget (what is that thing really? A dirty rain tarp? And vaseline?), cheesy music, over acting, and yet...

So effective. Plus there's something about the way they keep panning back to the safety of the shore (the car, the radio). Creep show indeed.

But the real mystery is.... how did himbo keep those joints dry?!

^ So what you're saying is that if they say that "it's meant to be like this", that excuses the fact that people don't enjoy it?

I mean that's the bottom line really, isn't it? People don't enjoy it, so they complain. Now you're complaining that their reasons for not enjoying it aren't original enough.

Edit: also, i rather disagree with you. I think that if a game/company has been around for that long they should be building success upon success, each game getting better and better. Sooner or later you'd reach a saturation point of better and it'd just be fantastic each time.

If you're going to bash on the bashers you need something better than "Stop complaining, the game is MEANT to be like this!" because that, believe it or not, is not a valid counter argument. The game depends on whether people find it fun. I can't make my own shit game and defend it by saying "It's meant to be shit!" and expect people to stop bashing it/not liking it.

Now i've seen a lot of FF bashers out there who sound like they're auditioning for the over-acting society's version of the trial of nazi germany, but the defenders of it, for me, are worse because they're self aware and capable of putting together a decent argument and yet they still say "it's meant to be like this lol!"

Mythbusters: Catastrophic decompression of a diving suit

westy says...

I dont mind when they are genuine , but you can tell most the time they are not , thay have to do things speificly for the sake of the camaras and are encoraged to over act , ethor that or they are like anoying school kids.

the reason Jami and adam are good is because you can tell that they are genuine and you can tell they rnt stupid , you can tell that they don't take the rehused segments to seriously.

but aside from all that the editing is appalling , ITS shitty American TV editing where you probably have 15 minutes of content then it repeats itself over and over and over , to make that 45 minutes.

for example , you have an intro exsplaining stuff , then you have a repeat of part of that intro intraducing the segment you are curently on , then you have that segment you are on for about 5 minutes , then it gose to repeating intro for another segment , then you have that segments content for a bit , then it gose back to intradusing and repeating where they were on another thing , every time it jumps from one thing to another they reiterate it over and over . most so that after 15 minute add brake people know whats going on.

they need to do a pure versoin of the show , one experiment at a time , no repeating of the same footage . and put it on a dvd , Until the editing is fixed I find it to annoying to watch. Its the visual equivelent of a constant High pitch HISS that sumone decided to add in.

Matt Damon Freakout

Glenn Beck is a new kind of crazy

dannym3141 says...

The first 20-30 seconds of this reminds me of "The Running Man"

The sort of fake over-acting to try and evoke an emotion in the viewer by killian. In that film the aim was to hide the terrible big brother state the world was in, but in this film it's like the terrible big brother state trying to get back in.

The bit where he goes "like Joyce in Melbourne, Florida!"... oh man did i have a spooky de ja vu feeling for:
"maybe even a full pardon like our previous winners, Wittman, Price and Hadad. You remember them, Wittman, Price and Hadad, there they are, and at this very moment they're basking in the beautiful Maui sun"

Joaquin Phoenix says he is quitting acting; reporter laughs

HollywoodBob says...

So Leaf Phoenix is retiring, big friggin' deal. He was a mediocre actor, who was only lucky enough to be in movies where his brand of over acting was muted by the rest of the cast.

The best thing would have been for the reporter to respond "Go shave ya hippy."

Ohh look at me I'm Joaquin Phoenix, I'm so cool I have to where sunglasses on the red carpet at night, because the flashes hurt my eyes, but no one can recognize me anyway cause I've gone and got all fat and hairy.

When his album sucks, and he comes back to movies to fuel his outrageous spending (remember he's been an actor since he was like 12), he'll be back. Now if only Hollywood would tell him "Oh we heard you quit, maybe next time." and then never hire him for anything, and when he's making E-surance commercials, and working at the Subway on Sunset he'll have proven to other up and comers that being a douche doesn't work out.
