Cop Pepper Spraying Teenage Girl

BSR says...

No. the black man in the background was correct when he said the police let the badge go to their heads.

He could have been an asset to the police in calming the girl down if the police saw and took the opportunity.

With good reason she was very afraid to be in the situation she was in. She needed someone she could trust and it may have very well been the bystander who the police told to stand back.

The mace was certainly uncalled for. They could have pulled her in from the otherside of the car.

Quit looking for reasons to punish. Their job is to protect her. That's why they tell criminals to "watch your head" getting into the car. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

BTW, I was raised by a good cop and Marine.

What was clearly shown was proper respect b the action of the police. She made the situation worse and received the results.

She was given every opportunity of respect from police.

Quit making excuses for wrong choices.

Lest We Forget: The Big Lie Behind the Rise of Trump

shagen454 says...

I was about the reply to Bobknight - to say basically the same thing.

Unfortunately, a lot of us who are "liberal" can't understand this. There is truth to it, I'm not going to say that it isn't batshit crazy but for instance, I worked 5 days at a design temp job (before I quit and got the job of a lifetime a week later) and the owner was an older lady. She listened to FOX news ALL DAY long, totally in the box and in the zone for the alt-right mentality.

She, as a small business owner, who probably has other "conservative"(extremist) friends on the Chamber of Commerce (of which she was a part of) really believed that Trump as a "BUSINESS" person would be a great president in creating a better economy for"business"(tax loopholes everywhere, YES!!! No living wage or minimum wage increases, YESSS!!! fucking dicks the lot of em). I had to listen to this shit for those 5 days, but yeah - people really believe(d) it. There are business people out there, who aren't Bobknights eating doritoes in that wheel-less, rusted, mobile home in the trailer park waiting for the next tornado to plop down on tornado alley and give them the ultimate ride to the otherside, that believed in having a business person in the white house a good thing (fucking capitalists and terribly ignorant poor people IMO lol).

Media is in a real shithole these days. I mean, I still listen to Democracy Now! & NPR... but everything is slanted one-way or another...

Classic DOS games roundup, circa 1995

shagen454 says...

Yeah, I've played games from Obsidian and InXile... I'm hoping the next Planescape game lives up to it's potential. Both Wasteland 2 and Pillars of Eternity were good but definitely not classics. Baldur's Gate 2 is still such a monolithic classic.

Otherside just announced System Shock 3 so that should be interesting, also the Ultima Underworld game sounds very exciting. It'd be cool if they could get the rights to Thief since no one has been able to come up with one as good as 1&2.

I have had the honor of working with some people from both BlackIsle and LookingGlass. You can find BlackIsle folk split between InXile and Obsidian Entertainment, and you can find a new LookingGlass-inspired studio (with a lot of the old crew) at Otherside Entertainment.
It's interesting to see how the right combination of people can produce such magic, because it's not like those developers have gone anywhere. But hopefully that's good news if you follow some developers for the sake of pedigree.

Yeah, I had to get rid of a lot of comics and discarded my magazines as well since then. And I do regret it for sure, but they were such a pain taking up space.

I definitely miss those days but I also am an avid PC gamer still. I think what I miss most about those days were the developers... I mean the studios out there back then were ahead of their time and most fell by the wayside due to publisher problems or what not. I really miss Looking Glass Studios, Black Isle & Bullfrog (& to some degree Bungie releasing something that I actually like). Those studios were irreplaceable, but again - it's all about time and place - even those publishers would have probably hit a sour note at some point and at least we never saw those notes! I remember for example that people really got tired & complained about the Infinity engine from Black Isle/Bioware games. And now look - these days we have games trying to emulate the look & feel (Pillars of Eternity)!

Sometimes you plank the stove, sometimes the stove planks you

shagen454 says...

Haha, I remember when I was in second grade I had a boombox and probably a Vanilla Ice or Michael Jackson tape on hand. But, I wanted an extension cord so I could have the boombox on the otherside of the room, so I grabbed some wire stuck in one end of the power cord for the boombox and then plugged the cord in the wall. Fireballs. Fucking FIREBALLS. It was awesome. I'll never do it again.

I remember standing in front of an electrical outlet when I was about 3-4 with a fork, thinking man, I'm so tempted to see what would happen if I poke this fork into these little holes.
Ahh, the good old days, before it became politically correct to safe'ify one's house for the chillun's.

Arthur C Clarke predicting the future in 1964

rougy says...

That was visionary.

We are now at one of those "precipice" moments, when the world has become something that it wasn't before, yet we keep using the old model.

I swiped some guy's Denver Post last week. It was sitting there for a few days so I didn't think he would mind.

Anyway...I opened the "Help Wanted" section. The entire section was about a 5x5 inch square, for all of Denver.

Back in the early 90's, there were always two or three full, broadsheet pages of want ads.

But no more. Why? Craigslist.

Back in 1990, nobody could have conceived of Craigslist, other than Mr. Clark here.

And I think that new dimension of "networking" for lack of a better word has yet to be utilized to its full extent.

I think that, more than ever before, we are in a postion where the common person can collaborate with people on the otherside of the world, in a very meaningful way.

(stepping off soapbox now)

Anti-Anti-Gay Protesters Targeting Target

shagen454 says...

I went to a Target for the first time recently. I was with my friend and his daughter - thought it was funny to be in the girls section right across from the sausage & meatball isle with a meat ad on the otherside as well. Other than that - it was really busy - could hardly move around freely and the shit they had there sucked. Give me a Thrift Store over Target anyday.

"If you love America, quit voting like you hate Americans"

shagen454 says...

I like what Ed is saying but this is complete bullshit. This is just some commentator installed by huge media corporations to spew the "otherside's" story. This shit is supposed to make you think that there are opposing sides when in reality the democratic party is owned by the republicans (the minority? hah! the minority with all of the corrupt power) and the republicans run this whole shitty oligarchy that we call a free democracy. It's all shit, sorry for being bitter - I love this country but if you're a rep or dem - you suck. Go read some history books and get back to me. The only way to stop all of this weird corruption that has gone on for decades is to buy some heavy weaponry from bechtel or some shit and take this big-box burger shop over. And well, you know, it's just not even worth it. Time to finally move to Sweden.

There is a huge Homeland Security building down the street from me. I bet someone in there reads everything on sites like this... the building looks like something out of Darth Vader's Empire, like it could be a huge square building coming out of the death star... so I want to take the opportunity to say, "hey Homeland Security lick my fucking taint you pieces of shit, come and get me you constitution burning rodent mafia douchebags!!!!"

Tell your children and your children's children to vote local, vote indie or green. It's the only way.

Auschwitz: The Nazis and the 'Final Solution' (BBC)

westy says...

You moron , I have seen the full series how about you engage your brain gears.

the piont is the nazies didnt get away with it and they fucked it up , they could have exsploited the laber far more efficently ,

all the clever countries now are getting away with it , exploiting the 3rd world is how its ment to be done.
the nazies just didnt have the imaginatoin to do it properly.

the advantage of doing things totaly overseeies with the most deprived natoins is that no other natoins give a shit and the populatoins of the natoin your raping are evan more poweless to do annything , becuse they dont know anny better and allso they are to far islated from the controlers to do annything.

allso its a waist of money and time puting them all in camps and killing them all , why not let them maintain themselfs just make sure you keep it so they can never be in a positoin to actualy earn the true amount of income they deserve.

The reasoin the germans faild is the top brass was so concernd in setting up a new rome/empire. im sure if they had got away with it everyone would hail the germans as sucsesfull conqerors and masters of a new civalisatoin . In the same way allot of people have this bizar respect for the romans and how gr8 they were , despite the fact that there gratness was most likely bult of the backs of slave labor murder and genoside.

a more recent example than romans would be How the british raped and exploited people around most the world and still remain respectable.
the germans were just noobs.

The whole genoside thing repatedly happens and we still dont seem to give a shit it would be nice if people were educated about genoside in general and how easily it happens.

Intresting genosides

Mao Ze-Dong (China, 1958-61 and 1966-69, Tibet 1949-50)

Slobodan Milosevic (Yugoslavia, 1992-99)

Kim Il Sung (North Korea, 1948-94)

Pol Pot (Cambodia, 1975-79)

colinisatoin of amerca ( admitedly allot of it was desize but the british and other people that moved to USA compelaty fucked up a whole load of people)

I dont know if u can class the reacent wars in iraq a genoside , or maby veatnam war. personaly im not so sure how much intentoin matters , in the sence that if u intend to wipe out a natoin of people or if thats just what happens. in the end if a whole load of people end up dying then from the perspective of that group of people its a genoside. the only difference would be if they died because they were activly in combat with the otherside running at them with guns , or if they were cavileans that were killed through a genetic / gealogical asoceatoin .

>> ^demon_ix:

If you had actually watched the video instead of just trolling, you would have seen that's exactly what they did. They set up factories in Poland to take advantage of the Coal resources in the area and used the prisoners as forced labor to build weapons for the German war effort.
>> ^westy:
~Its still fine to murder people or just forget its hapaaning , you just canot do it in camps .
if the nazies were clever they would have just exsploited 3rd world labor and only invaded countries that had pore militaries but strong resources.
