PORTAL (Teens React: Gaming)

RFlagg says...

The way they got stuck on level 3 drove me up the wall... My oldest, who's now 11, probably played it first around 6 or 7 and didn't get confused until level 8 or so (if I recall properly).

That all said, it still is probably one of the most perfectly well designed games ever, at least in terms of how it eases you into each lesson during the tutorial levels. I'd also guess we'd see a Portal 3 before a Half Life 3. I'd think they are afraid of HL3 at this point...

Soriah, Tuvan Throat Singer is Boo'd in America's Got Talent

charliem says...

I guess he was expecting the audience to not shit all over one of the worlds oldest forms of music..?

Pretty disgraceful behavior from the audience, and judges alike...that they didnt know what that was is a damn shame too.

USS Constitution Enters Dry Dock Time Lapse May 18 2015

blackfox42 says...

Some of the guys at my work were talking about this very ship at lunch earlier this week. One had gone on vacation recently to Boston and somehow it came up that this is the oldest ship still in active service.

I'm in the process of rearing 6 boys, oldest is 7 years. I wouldn't stop recording either. The greatest danger is the boy will now seek greater adrenaline rushes later in life.

Jack Black & Fallon recreate "More Than Words" Music Video

heropsycho says...

My oldest brother fancies himself as a guitar player, and EVERYTIME he covers something, this is one of the three songs he plays, and wants someone to sing with him. It's basically the same as me picking up a bass guitar and playing Tom Sawyer, except I stopped doing that 30 years ago because nobody wants to hear you play the same thing everytime you play.

Now everytime he does it, people loudly groan in disgust. lol

why is my video getting buried (Sift Talk Post)

oritteropo says...

A downvote doesn't prevent people from seeing your vid, although if you have the list sorted by hotness it will move it a long way down. I always view unsifted sorted by age, oldest first.

I watched your vid, but as I'm neither a fan of Maher or of the opinion that you shouldn't have posted the vid, I moved on without voting either way.

I'll second the comments above, there is no conspiracy here, it's just how the sift works.

I am somewhat surprised that this discussion has, with one notable exception, remained mostly civil.

@ChaosEngine dissapointed at you. I made NO mistake. Some fascist happy to censor other peoples videos downvoted my video so NO ONE COULD SEE IT, BEFORE ANYONE HAD A CHANCE TO VIEW.

My only mistake was not being aware of what had happened.
I would not re-post AND THEN TELL THE WHOLE SIFT ON SIFT CHAT if I had wanted to be a SNEAKY COWARD.

FUCK THAT SHIT.

Three Topics, One Interesting Conversation

Engels says...

Wait, you think that servicemen didn't have to face children in Iraq that fought for the insurgency, be it bomb-strapped or not? Because honey, that shit's above board. If on the other hand you are suggesting that this woman is somehow glamorizing war and dismissing the importance of Iraqi lives, that's another matter, but converting children to your cause is the oldest and easiest trick in the book. It happened in Vietnam, it happens every single day in your pick of war-torn African nations, and it sure as shit is happening as we speak in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Vemödalen: The Fear That Everything Has Already Been Done

oritteropo says...

One of the oldest known texts is a complaint that the ancients had already said everything worth saying, and that dates from almost 5,000 years ago.

Derren Brown Infamous

speechless says...

There isn't just "someone in the crowd with a microphone". There is a person with a microphone INSTANTLY next to whoever he talks to. Maybe they magically appear there. Or maybe there's hundreds of people holding mic's. OR it's an obvious setup and he has people with mics standing near the actor in the audience that he's going to do the act with? hmm.

I'm not expecting actual magic, but I do enjoy magic performances when they are done well. But this obviously fake, edited and staged bullshit sucks imo.

@lucky760 re. "the fake contacting dead relatives thing". What's simpler? That they researched all the audience members social internet profiles or that Brown had plants in the audience? Oldest trick in the book.

ChaosEngine said:

Of course, there's someone in the crowd with a microphone. It'd be a pretty crap show if you couldn't hear the audience member.

The mystical surgery was the least interesting part of the show, IMO. some fake blood and some slight of hand, not really that impressive.

but you should have watched to the end... you missed the best part

Obesity PSA - Obesity doesn't happen overnight

oritteropo says...

My oldest child was like that when he was little. Sadly it didn't last.

Don't panic if they do like sweet things when they're a bit older and exposed to them, the important thing is that they will still learn good (or bad!) food habits from their parents.

lucky760 said:

Heheh. At this point I feel confident they won't become candyholics whenever they first taste it because we're effectively cultivating a preference for savory over sweet.

Yep, they have no idea what juice is; they only drink milk and water. They only know that candy is the stuff they pick up and play with at the store, but they put it back before we check out; they know it has lots of sugar and will give them cavities (but they don't actually know the word "candy"). They only know what an ice cream cone is from books and TV, but they've never seen it in person.

Whenever we do give them something very sweet, such as fresh fruit or a taste of our frozen yogurt, they often won't eat it complaining that it's too sweet (just like they are).

Hotness vs Newness ? (Sift Talk Post)

oritteropo says...

Newness is just in the order they sifted, hotness has the videosift special sauce to show you the ones trending right now (or that had quality cast on them).

I usually browse front page in hotness mode, but always view unsifted in oldest first order (hide viewed).

Father-to-Be Drives Pregnant Wife To Hospital

visionep says...

My sister was born in the front seat of our truck. My parents lived on a farm and the house was 30 minutes from the hospital. She was my mom's second child and came along a lot faster then my oldest sister so they thought they had time. From my mom's account when they got to the hospital my sister's head had started coming out so she just layed back on the bench seat of the truck and the person manning the ER had to catch the baby. I think they stayed at the hospital for a couple of hours then headed back out to the farm.

That was in 1971, I bet there are a million different procedures that are different these days.
