Sarzy, my agreeing it is a great scene does nothing to alleviate my strong feeling that it shouldn't be here. I can find tons of beautiful, magical, artistic sex scenes from world cinema. There are probably sites for appreciating that kind of content, but I don't want this to be one of them. Porn has a connotation of cheap : fair enough, don't call this porn; this is adult content. I don't know about this being something "people should see." I bet I can find tons of more moving, more arousing, more beautiful sex scenes, at least by my lights. There is no social crusade needed here. This isn't a dirty secret that needed to be exposed. Yes, Nicole kidman's character is more turned on by her own beauty than the touch of her lover. Not earth shattering. The Greeks talked about that a couple of thoousand years ago.

OK yeah- here's the deal. The Internet is full of porn - I've heard. When we started VideoSift - we intentionally decided to make VideoSift a "porn free zone" not necessarily because we hate porn, but just because pornish type content in online video is so prevalent.

I don't know how many times I've done this over the last 2 years, but pop over to VideoBomb and check out their "most watched" section to see why adult content is not a good idea on a video voting site.

Maybe this isn't porn- but it's sexual content designed to arouse. It definitely arouses me. (yes, it fails that test- it's Nicole Kidman's bum!) So I don't think this should be here.

I suppose it can also be reasoned, then, that you can label them more specifically as "agnostic" since, in fact, they do not know if a god exists at all. Although most agnostics claim that the knowledge is unattainable by humans, we can agree that an infant lacks the knowledge or possible knowledge of god. That is of course if we are to assume that an infant isn't born into this world knowing all, only to soon forget.

So back to the original question, which was so politely downvoted
"how's promoting atheism to children any worse than promoting Christianity to kids?" aka: either way they're going to be:

A) driven to conclusion through belief without the quest for more information
or
B) Figure it out for themselves through research and intellectual exploration eventually anyway.

Either conclusion that one may come to, I'd hope that they took path "B" to get there

Bah. I love Bill Mahr, but I can't get behind this clip.

I'm a hardcore feminist, and to me that means that I believe that chicks are awesome and should be treated like people. For the record, I also believe that guys are awesome and should be treated like people.

I disagree with Mahr's assertion that American values have become feminized. I do think American popular culture has increasingly come to value polarized, extremist expressions of gender, with our faux manly war mongering Connecticut-born cowboy in chief on the one hand and increasingly stylized and abstract representations of femininity on the other (Mariah Carey, Anna Nicole, etc.).

I think that what Mahr calls "feminine values" are more accurately attributable to a trend away from personal responsibility. Let's not talk about how to fix things or how to be a good citizen or how to get things done. Let's whine about our feelings and talk about how our children are in terrible danger from sexual predators or tinfoil or whatever the threat of the day may be. It's not that we've all turned into chicks, it's that so many of us have turned into soft bellied unthinking buttmonkeys.
