Good Thing Volvo Trucks Have Excellent Brakes

VoodooV says...

gah, I wish the dashboard camera thing would catch on here in America. When I eventually get a new car, seriously thinking about getting one, not just to protect myself, but to help take down reckless drivers.

it just needs to happen. People always drive nice when the cops are around, but most of the time, people are maniacs

Winter Driving is Dangerous! Please slow down

AeroMechanical says...

Given it's Wisconsin, these people really should have known better. Generally, they're pretty good about driving in these conditions here. They're kind of breaking the fundamental rule though, which is however fast the car in front of you is going, you drive no faster than that and leave plenty of room to stop. You don't change lanes except when it's necessary for navigational purposes.

I'm also wondering about the lights thing. I don't see a lot. My new car has an "automatic" setting, but it doesn't really work properly and the lights are off a lot of the time when they should be on (the most important times, dusk and dawn). As a rule, I leave my lights on all the time anyways. That said, there are still a lot of people who seem to think the lights on the car are there to help you see rather than to help others see you.

Bigger Pizzas: A Capitalist Case for Health Care Reform

and the people chanting "LET HIM DIE!!" are supposedly in the "pro-life" party.

I have no problem with personal responsibility. Contrary to what the GOP, Tea Party, and Libertarians would have you believe, pretty much everyone believes in personal responsibility and having consequences for your actions.

But there is a significant difference between:

1. Hey, you made a bad choice, sorry, but you don't get to have a two week vacation in cancun, you don't get to buy your kids the latest iPhone, sorry, that new car will have to wait a bit. You'll probaby have to sell your expensive home, yet still be able to have a basic home or afford a non-slum apt still.

and

2. Hey you made a bad choice, you now have to go live in an alleyway and/or live your life in severe physical pain and have a shortened life-span. Sorry, you won't be able to send your kids to college or retire now. Oh and I forgot, we're also going to make it as hard as possible for you to recover from your bad choice. You might as well brand yourself a failure forever. No second chance for you!

dead people can't learn things.

Don't park like a jerk

skinnydaddy1 says...

1. Buy a shit car.
2. Learn to park.
3. Learn to drive. (If you can't park. I suspect the driving skills match)
4. Sell shit car and buy the one you really want.
5. Everyone happy. Except those that are jealous of your new car and still think your a douche. Just smile and tell them you hope they have a good day. Also remember not to park like a douche.

You people assume because he has an expensive car, he parked like that on purpose. You completely ignore the high probability he just can't park for shit.

Awesome Intelligent Adaptive BMW Headlights

LiquidDrift says...

That is awesome! My 2004 has headlights that adapt to the road slope and will swing into turns, but this is way cooler. I think I'd still rather have adaptive cruise control though, not sure why all new cars don't have this already in 2013.

Mieders Alpine Coaster - Frustrated Guy Crashes

newtboy says...

Ahhh, I just watched again, they all 3 (4?) stopped suddenly in front of him in a hard turn after going full speed, hitting each other to stop so suddenly. He had absolutely no chance to brake. Now who's the douchebag? Maybe the ones who intentionally stopped short on a high speed course, knowing full well they were being followed at speed by someone already pissed off that they were creeping down and stopping repeatedly?
If you disagree, let me know where you live and what you drive, I want to come cut you off and screech to a stop in front of you on the freeway so you can buy me a new car. ;-}

Dude, the guys a douche: He should have asked the woman in front of him (who wasn't really into the adrenaline rush as much as he was) to trade frikkin' cars with her at the first opportunity-Whip-lashing her from behind when he could have braked....DOUCHEBAAAAAAG!

This is a huge Batman fan!!

Fletch says...

Said by someone without a bat cave with a 120" movie screen.

Totally disagree. He has been a lifelong Batman fan and looks to be living his dream. His family seems to dig it too. Why do you think enjoying something can't be "normal"?

Anyway, isn't going out to a restaurant, or to a hockey game, or out to a movie simply spending money on short-term enjoyment? Buying a new car? Magic Mountain? Isn't an enjoyable life just a long string of short-term enjoyments? If you had a choice, every time you wanted to watch a movie, between your computer and the awesome 120" bat cave theater, you think the computer would be "as fun"? I'm sad for you.

chilaxe said:

This type of materialism just creates a short-term increase in enjoyment, and then things go back to normal.

After the initial newness has passed, watching movies will go back to only being as fun as watching them on your computer monitor (which is fine).

He could have saved himself hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Australia's Gun Control Program

oritteropo says...

Starting from 1986 all new cars had to be able to run on unleaded petrol, but the actual end date for sale varied according to where you were... but around 2002 (it was pretty uncommon anyway once most cars ran on unleaded, I thought it had been phased out years earlier). Given that there is a 20 year lag between changing lead levels and behavioural changes, it should be showing up starting from 2006.

Lead based house paint hasn't been common since 1970 (source).

Which figures did you find fishy?

I thought i smelled something fishy, those figures would've been the first in the whole history of humankind.

When was leaded gas&paint banned in the Australia? Would be nice to see that graph there too..

Walmart on strike

chingalera says...

>> ^My_design:

Wow, the "free thinkers" lash out.
Not a corporate shill, but work in a corporate environment. Not saying that corporate actions are always right, but you guys only ever want to tear down, and never propose how to fix it. Your own hatred blinds you to reality.
So F_ck Walmart, F_ck Target, F_ck Coke and Pepsi and all the other companies that make "ridiculous" profits at the expense of consumers and employees. Stop buying their crap, form a commune and move to the hills. Consumerism and free market are screwing up the country/planet right? So let's seize corporate profits, block them at every angle and get us back to the good old days, you know before Carnegie, Ford, JP Morgan, and Rockefeller. Hell before Edison while we're at it. Oh wait there has always been corporations doing business in the US. Oh well, enjoy your new life with the Amish.
No options for jobs?
Here's a 160 pages of options just for the 50 miles around Chicago:

oundCount2%3Ajlrd=50&Submit=GO
There are always options. We tend to forget that just 50 years ago people were subsistence farming, living with 3 generations in a household, working 2 jobs, and no health insurance. Hell in some places that is still going on. But now we complain and strike because the manager bullies us and causes unnecessary stress (0:22) If that is really the case, then document it. It is called contributing to a hostile work environment and is covered under the sexual harassment laws in the US.
"Because I'm tired of working at a company where workers get cheated and cheaters get rewarded" What? Umm that would be a class action lawsuit like the ones that hit Walmart in the past.

For me it's much simpler. Requires very little thinking through, this hatred for all that Walmmart represents. The worst form of mega-corporate usurping of the individual, of regional infrastructure, local architecture....Walmart has killed the souls of so many small towns and has done it through a systematic cheapening of goods and services. The hydra is self-perpetuating with your help....One of her strongest tentacles is this inbred bitch's legal department working tirelessly to maintain the machine's tactics and contempt for the people who have bought their line and their sub-standard goods from a country that has gone from a fundamentally repressive government with the largest population of any country to one, massive sweatshop PLANETOID of human wage-slaves.

People have been groomed for accepting quantity over quality, convenience over consciousness.
Apologies for the harsh words, glad to hear you have nothing to do with this particular beast-I fucked Coke, Pepsi, Target, etc. years ago...Don't frequent any chain restaurants or purchase new cars either. Shop at thrift stores for clothing and order consumer goods online through "ma and pa" internet businesses.
