The first time I remember learning anything about a (fictionalized) version of this weapon was in Goldeneye for N64. But I remembered it (known as the RC-P90) having an 80 round capacity in that game.

That didn't set off any alarms for me, but an interesting note was made here:
The FN P90 only holds 50 rounds in its magazine. It is speculated that the RC-P90's 80 magazine is actually a mistake due to directly giving the RC-P90 0x50 (that is, 80 in hexadecimal) bullets rather than 0x32 (50 in decimal).

I genuinely don't want to be a dick about it. But if I am one, I'm pretty sure I do also have a good point.

He was pointing out how the digital cameras they are using tended to show everything in that flat low contrast manner, but that you could fix it in editing, but that would also mean more time and money. The newer cameras are able to film scenes with brighter colors and higher contrasts right out of the box and eliminates the need for extra editing, if that is the reason they went in that direction in the first place.

It makes me wonder if they went with the muted tones to give the films a more serious feel to them, possibly making the non nerd segment of movie going America more comfortable with them.

Never heard of him before now, but even in Chinese history records of his voyages were scattered or omitted, due in part possibly because his voyages went against the wishes of a previous ruler. On the other side we have Christopher Columbus who was in all the history books here in America and was regularly celebrated. Until we got more honest with our history, now it's Indigenous People's Day in many places (That Italian Asshole Day just doesn't look as good on a calendar I guess).
If the Chinese had taken over the world then maybe we would be reading about someone else discovering the Americas (and probably called something else too) but as it stands Europeans did and that's who winds up in the history books.

As far Johansson's role in the movie goes, I can take her or leave her really, they could have cast an Asian action star and I would have been fine with that. But the choice of Johansson was less about nerds like me and more about getting everyone else into the theater. Oh, and I think Idris Elba would make an awesome James Bond, just sayin.

I've seen it. It was indeed funny AND entertaining. I enjoyed it about as much as I enjoyed Ghostbusters 2, which was a much lazier rehash of the same premise of the first movie to cash in on the name.

Yet...somehow, people don't remember the second movie that way. But they, having not seen it in a lot of cases, view this movie as an A-Bomb for the movie industry. The most scorn worthy example of remakes ever! Most disliked trailer in youtube history! Yet....somehow, the same fate didn't befall TMNT, Transformers, Robocop, et all.

But we also forget, some of our most beloved genre movies and well liked films were remakes of older movies before our time. The Thing, The Fly, The Departed, True Grit, 12 Monkeys, etc. It's not that it's evil ole hollywood "not having original ideas and scripts", because we have unoriginal ideas and scripts in the hallows of nerd fandom.

Really seems like there is one sort of X-Factor about this particular remake of a previous nerd-centric IP that set it apart from all the others people ignored or fell in love in with....
