VideoSift v3.1 Unveiled (Sift Talk Post)

joedirt says...

GH responded down thread from my post -- "And everyone acting like your life is over because your TWO DAY OLD submission is gone, calm down. It can be saved and I'm sure the admins will gladly reinstate it. So quit talking about how upsetting it is. Either drop the admins a msg, or see the other sifttalk thread for the do-it-yourself approach." (Is all I'm saying)

Lucky, not that you haven't done enough coding for a month. What about something like the "P" goes away if you have X comments and a member for a month, or something like that. I mean BillO should be a member by now.

Good Food Choices

deathcow says...

hey man I'm just showing you what I'm doing, sorry, I think their whole infomercial shit is sleazy and their multilevel marketing crap is CRAP too, but the program works, I'm not associated with them and I really could give a damn if someone cares or doesn't care, excuuusssee me I wont "spam" the sift any more with fitness related posts. It's not like I'm loading this crap on you every day is it? Wow - two msgs in what, SEVENTY days? Sorry to eat your bandwidth up. So I branched out and polluted two whole videos with talk of it. Topic taboo! I've got 3416 comments on the sift and .00087 of them refer to it. Cane me in public. There, now only your posts refer to it. The sift is safe again and you dont have to wade through all my BS.

10 Worst Foods in Nutritional Value

Eklek says...

Upvote for cloudy background. Wonder why she chose this picture, considering the message..

My message would be:
-avoid warm food for breakfast/lunch
-avoid fried food, when you want to prepare it -use fresh healthy oil
-eat whole wheat bread for breakfast/lunch (bake it yourself to avoid the additives)
-cut down your amount (100 gr./person is just fine) and frequency of (fish)meat for dinner and often replace it with cheese/eggs/soya-products/beans/nuts
-eat your daily fruit&veggies (veggies unlimited, not too many fruit because of fructose)
-avoid salt, sugar, bad fat, msg (vetsin) and other additives that are part of the nutritionism hype.
-take good fat (e.g. extra virgine olive oil)
-drink tea/water

No Problem That thing with the embed validation and dupe search is strange, though. I just wrote Lucky a short msg about it...

In reply to this comment by laura:
I guess not...and also it must be that when you search for a vid (not advanced) it doesn't search the titles, just the tags, because your should have come up when I checked... sorry 'bout that!

In reply to this comment by Buttermaker:
BTW: I've noticed that this vid has the same YT-URL as mine - seems that embed code validation doesn't work properly... o0

10 Worst Foods in Nutritional Value

smibbo says...

1. canned soup is available with little or no salt and most don't have any MSG
2. MSG is not a preservative
3. the only known problem with MSG is allergies, which not everyone has
4. if she'd actually read the ingrediant listing on most bags of unflavored potato chips she would have amended her statement to "flavored chips"
5. since when was soda a food? I agree its one of the worst possible consumables around but its still not a food

A generally decent vid, if not a bit obvious. But she hurts her credibility a little bit right up front by asserting that MSG is a preservative. It is actually a flavor enhancer, which stimulates the fifth "deliciousness" taste--also called "Umami" (a relatively recent addition to the traditional sour, bitter, salt and sweet tastes).

Ad-Blocker Installed? (Sift Talk Post)

joedirt says...

LOL.. what is this adblocker msg?? I won't share my secrets, but I don't see any ads (except the text ones). But it's nothing personal to VS, I just have browser set up that was for the internets.

I do encourage folks to click on one or two of the text or other ads everytime you visit. Just pop them in some back tab and forget about it. Don't click the same ad like 20 times in a row as you aren't doing any favors.

What's the procedure on a dupe of a dead-but-not-discarded link? (Sift Talk Post)

joedirt says...

The correct procedure would be to allow the person with the dead video to fix it! It is after all, still fixable.

So you should politely send them a profile msg and offer up alternative embed code.

I may not discard the dupe just yet, but someone can always save it later. The goal is to CORRECT OLDER ORIGINAL SUBMISSIONS, not to throw out broken videos just to resubmit the same thing.

Top 10 Worst Foods

jwray says...

commentary and corrections:
nitrite-cancer link: Still controversial. The American Cancer Society recommends reducing consumption of nitrite-preserved foods.

10. Catfish -- http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~frf/sea-mehg.html
average 0.049 ppm of mercury according to the FDA - not the worst, but not as good as salmon or almost any other freshwater fish.

9. Canned Soups typically have about 50% of the RDA of sodium per 120 calories, and that RDA is based on a 2000 calorie diet. I.E., to meet the sodium RDA, canned soup would have to be a tiny percentage of your overall caloric intake. MSG serves a dual function as a flavor enhancer and preservative, but it's not really bad for you in moderate quantities

8. Bacon: There's a little bit of protein and cholesterol with the fat and salt. Of course it's still bad for you.

7. Fast food burgers...

6. Twinkies have almost no vitamins, minerals, or protein... They're mostly fat, starch, and sugar.

5. Chips ... she exaggerates.

*discard

It's funny though. I will find a video of yours for saving at some point, since you like the funny too. Send me a profile msg if you've got a suggestion for a good one to save, btw.
