Don't Be A Jerk To Horses

rottenseed says...

>> ^sineral:
There's no evidence in this video that the girl did anything wrong. At the very start of the video it looks like she's slapping a fly on the horse--people with horses do that. Then it looks like she's trying to get the horse to back up--also something that people with horses occasionally want them to do. Just because an animal attacks a person doesn't mean the person did anything wrong; horses in particular can be moody and some of them just like to bite. Biting her like it did, the horse could have caused serious injury to her neck or head.
Last time I checked, life was not a sporting event, and the concerns of humans outweighed the concerns of animals. Cheering when an animal mauls a human(a child in this case even!) is ignorant and disgusting.

That was actually a very delicate way the horse used to get the girl to stop beating on it. I think the girl should be grateful that the horse was so calm and reserved in that situation.

Oh mr. indignant. Just because you think the girl did nothing doesn't mean she did nothing! You enjoy getting outraged at people, i can tell.

If you are small, you should be extra careful to treat large powerful animals with respect. Something this girl's parents should have taught her. Her hit, while perhaps 'to get a fly' really didn't need to be so hard. I'd be pretty annoyed if someone hit me like that to get a fly on my back. Her push was directly onto the horse's neck which as we all know is a very sensitive area for all living animals because it houses the throat and the brain's blood supply, and it genuinely looked to me like the horse was reacting to that aggression towards its own throat.

You got indignant and over compensated with your prissy little outburst reaction, and that's just as foolish as cheering when you may not know the full story. You're right. Life is not a sporting event. And when a human considers itself so aloof to the situation of the animals which they tame, when a human underestimates and mistreats the animal, the animal is going to react, and you have no right to complain - because life's not a sporting event, you fucked up and ate the consequences. Our concerns outweigh theirs, but that's no reason to mistreat them.

Looks to me like just desserts for the little girl.

what a wonder
it is to see you
what a wonder
it is to feel you

I found your hideout
in the rubble
where you can cry out
when you're in trouble

now I want to be
in your hide and seek
now I want to make children

do I scare you
or make you frightened
don't you dare to move
the rope's will tighten

is it over
does it hurt you
all I wanted was
to divert you

now I want to be
in your hide and seek
now I want to make
love to, love to, love to you

you're the glacier
I'm the bonfire
you're the treasure
that I desire

you're the ruby
over diamonds
shy and moody
you're a wonder

Black Eyed Peas Have Officially Written The Worst Song Ever

We all liked pathetic pop songs when we were in our pre-teens.

We did? I listened to the Moody Blues, Simon and Garfunkel and other other fantastical shit(Switched-On-Bach for example) in my pre-teens and teens. I'm in my 30's, I lived outside my generation because I had original and independent thought about what I liked.

What's your first memory of rock & roll? (Rocknroll Talk Post)

Sagemind says...

Growing up in a radio Station, (my mom has worked in the same station my entire life), I have just always been around rock and roll. I remember meeting everyone that came through town, even Wolfman Jack on several occasions. There were so many, and I was young, I don’t even remember names…. You just don’t care at that age when you are around it all the time.

I used to get all the demo records to bring home. I remember at one of my birthday parties (10th?) I gave out 45s as party favors. (Five to each guest.)

My mom had a collection of 5-600 albums and several hundred original 45s with songs like “Robert Mitchum-
Ballad OF Thunder Road (1958), Janie Grant-Greasy Kids Stuff (1962) 45’s by Jan & Dean, Beach Boys, Buddy Holly, Big Bopper, Little Richard, Richie Vallens, Elvis and that era. I remember putting on CCR albums as young as 6 or 7 years old.

My personal first 45s were Kiss-Beth, Jerry Doucette-Mama Let him play, Eagles-Liyin’ Eyes. My first Albums were Kiss, Rock and Roll Over and Bay City Rollers.

Into grade eight, my favorites became stuff like, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Kiss, ACDC, the Ramones, The Cramps, The Moody Blues, Meatloaf, Styx and so much more. At one point I amassed over 1000 albums…

I thinned my selection down after getting married thinning down to around 50-100 albums and cassettes and have regretted it ever since. Music has been such a large part of my and there is a story to go with every song I ever remembered.

My first Rock Concert was Red Rider, opening for them was (Don’t laugh) Honeymoon Suite !!!

Long live the Music!

What's your first memory of rock & roll? (Rocknroll Talk Post)

rottenseed says...

My grandmother was a big Moody Blues / Pink Floyd fan. That coupled with fond memories of rocking out to The Cars, Billy Idol and Pat Benatar with my mom when I was a youngin' has shaped much of my appreciation for rock and/or roll. It wasn't until my mom met my step dad a little later on that I was introduced to new wave and 2nd wave ska. When I got to high school, there was a big 3rd wave ska revival. Meanwhile I was rockin' the 1st wave and 2nd wave stuff, claiming to be too cool for that newer sh*t. That eventually lead to an interest in reggae music. Sublime was a very big influence on my life...

...I don't know why I like hip hop or house music. That's just random I guess.

South Park - Sometimes bad things happen to good people

EDD says...

I find absurd fake over-the-top outrage funny most of the time, but this was just incredibly stupid and unfunny. I guess adding a less-known sex-related verb in the mix does the trick for some. But for me, South Park went stale in it's 2nd season.

Or maybe I'm just moody. Blech.

Rachel Maddow Show: AIG's Big Fix

dag says...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

I understand that if AIG is allowed to fail, it could be a domino effect and completely destroy our financial system. So nationalise these fuckers completely and fire the management team. We'd need to disband Moodys too because AIG relied on their crappy, incestuous rating system to calculate their insurance risk.

It was the "implied" government backing of companies like AIG, Freddy and Fannie that contributed to this mess. Might as well go the whole hog now.
