How to Buy a New Car Without Getting Screwed

EvilDeathBee says...

The first bit of advice "give yourself two full weekends". Hard to do here in Montreal because.... *puts on most horrible "retard" voice* Car dealerships don't open on weekends!
What this means is you either have to go after work (they're open til 9 on weekdays), or take days off work. So it's effectively a ploy to make you rush through the process and make hasty decisions

History of VideoSift Part II (Blog Entry by dag)

Krupo says...

Hehe, I used to suscribe to the "all sifted videos" RSS feed - you can imagine how much of a presence that caused me to have... if someone forwarded me a video I would typically do a "Simpsons did it" before that was a thing, and what I'd actually be saying is, "yeah, saw that on videosift when it only had 3 or 4 votes"....

Also worth citing (apologizes if someone did - part of my "scale back" includes skimming over very long comment threads in favour of more sleep), are the Sift Ups - met @Farhad2000 in Montreal for New Year's and others around the world - that's of course been very cool.

Actually visiting @messenger in Turkey was technically a sift-up...

Oh, the irony of my old friend @Krupo "scaling back". Huh.

In the spring of 2006, Krupo started flooding my inbox with Sifts, his messages worded as if everyone knew this Internet monument. Clearly, I resented all the linkspam and the only way to stop him was to convince him that I was a regular member and already knew everything that was happening at VS. The only way to do that was to become a member and be here all the time, commenting everywhere and sifting myself.

And I'm still here today, just keeping the wolf from the door.

Can you guys come to Montreal, please ? Pretty please ?

Our streets are done for over here. I'm thinking of selling my rollerblades because after this winter, it'll be impossible to skate anywhere.

What to do with all that Canadian Snow...

Wow...Top 3, sometimes, I don't get you Sifters ;-)

(I'm from Montreal - that video is almost like someone in LA with a video of a nice park showing how nice the weather is - absolutely nothing to get excited about)

Maple Syrup Heist in Quebec

Sagemind says...

MONTREAL - Eighteen people have been arrested in a massive heist of maple syrup, Quebec police said Thursday.

The accused face a variety of charges including theft, conspiracy, fraud and receiving stolen goods.

Provincial police said in a statement they are looking for seven more people in the case.

The sweet stuff was stolen in the town of Saint-Louis-de-Blandford between August 2011 and this past July.

About 2.7 million kilograms of maple syrup, worth up to $18 million, was reported missing after a routine inventory check last summer.

Officers from the RCMP, the Canada Border Services Agency and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement helped Quebec police in the investigation, which featured interviews with 300 people in the maple syrup industry in Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick and the northern U.S.

I'm not doubting eagles couldn't do this or that they don't live in Canada. I've been knocked over by an eagle on the west coast when someone threw their salmon left overs after cleaning it.

What I am saying is: Golden Eagles aren't found in Montreal, usually. Falcons, hawks, smaller raptors, yes. Eagles that size would make new in Montreal even before it started picking off kids. =)

I think it's fake, something about the shadow of the eagle that makes me do a double take. Also, Golden Eagles are not native to Montreal and I think we'd hear about this on the news.

An interesting social experiment is to toss it on Facebook, with some blurb about how animals are fighting back against humanity, then see how far the nutjobs take it. =)
