Destiny Live Action Trailer

VoodooV says...

believe it or not I'm still playing SWTOR. Still haven't finished all the class storylines.

if those fuckers won't give us KOTOR3, then I gotta get all the story out of this before I move onto another mmo.

Destiny Live Action Trailer

RFlagg says...

The beta was semi-meh... semi-good, which is a real concern.

EDIT: The lack of evaluation is likely due to the fact they aren't turning servers on until 3AM EST (which is midnight PST), and since the game can't be plaid without servers... I mean I guess they could put a server up for the press, but they probably fear being able to control others from logging on that picked up early. And while online only, it's not really a full MMO, given the limited number of people per area...

Destiny Live Action Trailer

RedSky says...

Review embargo on the game doesn't expire until release. Usually (especially for MMOs) there's time pre-release for professional reviewers to evaluate the game. When publishers disallow this, it's generally a bad sign.

That and the fact that the beta had a lukewarm reception points to this not being great despite its clearly huge budget.

DRAGON AGE: INQUISITION Gameplay Trailer - The Inquisitor

Jinx says...

Cool looking environments. I hope I don't find them recycled 20 times...

It seems pretty clear it won't be another DA:O, but I enjoyed all the Mass Effects even though they were clearly aimed at consoles. Seems that the only RPGs that get made exclusively for PC now are the MMO kind, which is a shame.

I'm trying to keep my expectations sufficiently low so that when it comes out I am pleasantly surprised.

Elder Scrolls online: the arrival trailer

TheFreak says...

It's too early for any news if a single player TES game is in development but the MMO is a massive undertaking with rumors of a massive budget. Zenimax Online, the company developing the game, isn't seperate from Bethesda/Zenimax, it's just a legal entity for the development team. So just how much can the publishing side of the house afford to commit to other proects while the MMO is in production? We already know the production of expansions for Skyrim was prematurely halted right before it was announced that ESO would be the next Elder Scrolls release.

I thought I heard that the MMORPG is being handled by a different studio and should have no effect the next single player Elder Scrolls game.

Elder Scrolls online: the arrival trailer

TheFreak says...

I would totally go see the CGI "Elder Scrolls Online: The Movie" in theaters.

I will NOT be buying ESO: Online the game. The first time I have not bought an Elder Scrolls game. I don't know where Bethesda got it in their heads that people wanted a TES MMO. The whole idea of playing Elder Scrolls in groups just puts me off.

Plus, no way in hell I'm paying $15/mo subscription, or submitting to any other monetizing scheme.

What really burns me is that they're wasting all this dev time on the project. Not only am I waiting a whole extra dev cycle for my next TES game...but the amount of money they're investing is staggering. What if this brings down the franchise? It's a bone headed move.

Elder Scrolls online: the arrival trailer

The actual in game graphics and animations look pretty average unfortunately. Hopefully the gameplay is good, because I like it when subscription model MMO's are a success. F2P, which seems to be the trend, really takes the whole point out of what an MMO is all about just imo.

From the vast experience and resources available to Bethesda, you really think they could have done an amazing job on this, but I guess we'll see, hard to make a complete judgement just on gameplay footage on the net.

Elder Scrolls online: the arrival trailer

RFlagg says...

Okay, based on the last 3 stress tests. I don't think ESO should launch in June. I don't think it is nearly ready to call for a subscription. It's not bad, but its not as good as say Guild Wars 2, and what I'd expect of some of the upcoming "next gen" MMOs. I'm not in the WildStar beta, sadly, but based on what I've seen in Twitch streams and talking to people who are in (who don't seem to have a friend key to spare, grr. ) it seems far more polished than ESO, and I can see myself subscribing to that one. Of course who knows how much more polished the real beta is compared to the stress test betas, since the game is still under a full NDA, and I only made it to level 6 or 7 during the time. Of course those first 10 to 15 or so levels is when you need to hook the player and convince them that it will be worth $15 a month. There are several MMOs coming out that I feel will make ESO fall back, beyond Wildstar, there's Everquest: Next (and EQ:Landmark), the semi-mmo games like Destiny and The Division... If they used the GW2 model, of buy the box, play online free, I think it would do okay, and they will still get a lot of short term subscriptions from people who don't care, so long as it is an Elder Scrolls game, but I think they'll be too disappointed to stay beyond a quarter. I hope the real betas are that much better than the stress tests...

Anyhow, nice to see the conclusion of their older trailer, and an upvote for its quality alone.

No Man's Sky - New procedural sci-fi game

xxovercastxx says...

It's not an MMORPG but if everyone is playing in the same persistent world, I fail to see how it's not an MMO.

I suspect it'll be somewhat similar to Eve, actually.

I've always wished MMOs were more world simulations and less traditional video games with a large number of players. I'm still not interested in paying a subscription, though, and I don't have the time that so many of them require.

He never really says that it's an MMO per se. He repeatedly avoided the question. The suggestion of persistence and "everyone in the same universe" could have some different interpretations. Fingers-crossed that if it's an MMO it's nothing like any ever made.

Bill Maher New Rules on "Hate Filled" Social Media

MilkmanDan says...

One of the most intriguing aspects of this to me is that in spite of our total acceptance of it currently, we didn't see it coming at all.

Ultima Online, one of the first MMOs, allowed people to do "bad" stuff like steal from or kill other players, but made the assumption that such things wouldn't happen much because the in-game society would regulate itself like a real face-to-face society. ...Yeah, didn't work out so well.

Makes me wonder what the next few generations that grow up with social media representing a hugely significant chunk of their human interaction will be like. Maybe I'm just cynical, but it's a scary thought.

Tom Clancy's "The Division" -- E3 Gameplay Trailer

Yogi says...

Ok this is a professionally made Gameplay Trailer and you don't think that was voice acting? Seriously?!

This was voice acting and BAD voice acting at that. No one stuttered, or clarified an incomplete thought. No one even made a joke or varied their rate of speech, cadence, or pitch of their voice.

If this isn't voice acting, these people are robots and are actually not having any fun. I've played online MMOs at a very high level, there's always jokes and changes in peoples voices at world first kills, or daily boring ones.

Also NO ONE In the History of Gaming has ever said "Whoa whoa whoa it's another group of players, Brace for PVP." And even if someone had it wasn't in the most boring monotone voice EVER!

My god I'm usually talking like Zapp Brannigan when I lead raids, I wouldn't ever play with such boring people, and I wouldn't want to buy a game that was advertised to be played by these utter wastes of time! I want to play a game with INTERESTING Funny people!

None of that was voice acting; not as it is commonly understood. To me, it sounded exactly like my last co-op game at a LAN party.

Bitcoin Explained

spawnflagger says...

The case I remember was the Liberty Dollar - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberty_Dollar (also mentioned in the wiki article you posted).

That guy was convicted of http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/485 and others counts - basically conspiracy to undermine the legitimacy of the US Treasury.

Certainly since bitcoin is digital, you couldn't get arrested for the "making your own coins" but it could still pose a problem.

In-game currencies have no cash value, and never claim to be "legal tender". All EULAs for MMOs forbid "mining" and reselling of in-game property outside of the game. Therefore the game companies are off-the-hook for users' actions.

rebuilder said:

Source please? It's illegal to create a currency that can be confused with the dollar, but private currencies exist in the USA:

And that's not to mention virtual currencies in games like WOW, which can be traded for other currencies.
