Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Transgender Rights

SDGundamX says...

I would agree polygamous relationships should be legal (technically they already are in most states) but I would argue that we should keep marriage between just two people. Divorce proceedings/child custody battles/tax filing are already messy enough without adding yet another dimension to the mix. For me it's more a matter of practicality and ease of legal proceedings than any sort of moral objection.

Just to stir the pot, would you all agree that polygamous marriages between consenting adults should be legal?

(Btw, my own opinion is that as long as it involves consenting adults, have at it. Whatever it is.)

Not at all

Pardon the slow reply, I've been on holidays and ran out of internet (well, technically, ran out of laptop, but it ended up the same).

I think that the Kool Aid would end up more expensive than the ordinary dye here, but even in the States the thing about it is that it would be safe and fun for kids to use Kool Aid to dye the eggs, whereas the normal dye is... well... not exactly dangerous except for really little children, but awfully messy

I certainly think that the equally fake cordial syrups we have here would work just fine, green or red certainly, but they don't come in as many colours as that Kool-Aid pack.

Heya Seriously hope you don't mind me jumping in.

It's kinda like powdered cordial. I'm not sure if Cottee's would achieve the same effect or not. Maybe undiluted?

Otherwise there's a supermarket in Moorabbin, http://www.usafoods.com.au , that imports and sells them.

Flow Hive - Honey directly on tap from your beehive

newtboy says...

Foulbrood is not cleanable. If you get it in this hive, say goodbye to your $600, or become a bee killer. Some people think it can be disinfected with fire, but not on plastic (and I don't trust that on wood either, miss one tiny spot and lose another hive or more).
Yes, you are right, you still need to inspect the hive, meaning you have to separate it and look at individual frames. That might be harder with the special frames, you might not be able to ever remove them. I can't tell.
The brood is in the box below, and should have a queen excluder between the boxes so you never get brood in the honey frames.
No idea how well it works, but I can tell it will leave the hive messy, with raw honey covering the bottom of the hive and caps and wax split and filling the empty spaces. The bees will eventually clean it up, but it will take time.
EDIT:also, if your bees don't fill out the frames perfectly, they might not split (because two or more are connected). Then what?
You are right, just jumping into beekeeping is not good, and can hurt other people's bees (like if you get foulbrood and leave the infected hive for other bees to scavenge). I can only hope that when you buy one, they strongly suggest people join bee keeping clubs and/or buy certain good books to learn. Even if they do, there will be bad beekeepers, and poorly placed bees.

@newtboy, I wonder about foulbrood in this sort of hive. Are you then out the full thing or can it be disenfected since it's plastic? Hive maintenance would still be a thing , people still need to pull the frames on occasion. It won't stop mites. Nosema and other fungai will probably be a bigger issue with this design. Foulbrood and other problems will still be around, as will colony collapse disorder.

Also where are the brood kept since splitting the frame like this seems like it'd kill the brood (okay that one is answered in the KS page and you still have a brood box that you have to supply on your own).

How well does it actually work? Is this all just clever editing and done at peak honey flow season? How well does it work in the fall? Why is Bush shown talking about it, but he himself doesn't mention it on his site? Sure he's selling his own hives and the like, but I'd think if he gave them an actual try I'd think he'd say something, competition or not. It looks

I worry that too many inexperienced people who don't research or care, will try this and perhaps make many bee pests and diseases worse as they won't research things out properly. They'll just buy this and think that's nearly all there is too beekeeping and infect other hives due to their sloppy methods.

VideoSift v6 (VS6) Beta Video Page (Sift Talk Post)

lucky760 says...

I've added tags and channels back in.

I've had trouble trying to find a way to reinsert them in a subtle way that won't clutter the place up but will still be easily accessible.

After contemplating lots of options what I came up with was just putting them below the byline but minimally, with smaller text and semi-transparent until you hover over the video's meta info box.

Thoughts on my solution and other possible, possibly better solutions requested. (I'm not super-keen on what I came up with and wish there was something less messy.)

VideoSift v6 (VS6) Beta Video Page (Sift Talk Post)

oritteropo says...

On a phone, the new layout looks quite nice right until you get to the bottom, and then the related and suggested vids are quite messy.

Old style (neater list) - http://imgur.com/PkJe43M
New style (messier list) - http://imgur.com/4EBq4cS

You could neaten it up either by making the thumbnails smaller, or by only displaying three instead of five videos in each list. Actually the thumbnails seem quite large even on the desktop version.

As there is no way to mouseover on a phone, could the comment timestamps be made unconditional there (or everywhere)?

What makes me switch back and forth between v6 beta and old style is missing list of voters. I would've said number of views too, but I see that's been added (thanks!).

One usability thing - the way the comment box shrinks just before you want to hit submit means you have to chase the submit button around the page. This doesn't help. Moving the controls above the textbox would fix this, although I'm sure you can think of other ways.

I'd like to see Beggar's Canyon back in the "watch" menu, although I'm also open to only having it and deadpool and no thumbs appear only on the front page. It has been used a bit less lately, but as it was initially one of my favourite starting points I feel the need to stick up for it

It has been almost 2 years since VS v5.0 release. (Art Talk Post)

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

It's amazing to me that it's been 2 years since VS 5. The more complex a site gets the more entropy sets in, and the harder it becomes to do a major revamp. It's a pretty common IT problem. VS is big, sprawling, messy - though wonderful.
