Constitution gives us the right to travel

longde says...

So, you want our roads to be like an unmoderated message board, with anonymous trolls and spammers free to wreak havoc.

One local hick is one thing, but the consequences of everyone not registering vehicles are extremely high to everyone. It would place a high burden in the resolution of both civil and criminal situations.

Registration creates a line of accountability from a vehicle to a person that discourages reckless and criminal behavior. Not just for the most heinous crimes, but also for the more mundane occurrences, like fender benders.

Go to any news site you want and peruse the comments on a hot button story. Neolibs are not erudite intellectuals politely lamenting philosophical differences they oppose. They are cruel, foul mouthed ideologues spouting some of the meanest filth it has been my misfortune to encounter.

Observation: Some cruel, foul-mouthed people on internet message boards promote neolib policies.
Conclusion: Neolibs are cruel, foul-mouthed people.

Perfectly rational generalization.

I wear your downvote with honor ponceleon and look forward to your detailed and reasoned explanation.
Shuac:
You mean like this?

Burdturgler:
It's funny the way you word things. For an asshole like you there's only two ways. I can learn (agree with) what you're saying .. or I can remain stupid and ignorant. Tough fuckin call. Guess I'll go for stupid for the time being.
Burdturgler:
Why don't you fart gum drops and unicorns out of your ass? Why doesn't God just send a big meteor of cash hurtling through the atmosphere to explode everywhere? Better yet, why not just slip a few bills in everyone's pocket at the start of each fucking day?
Shuac:
See, when you resort to such pedestrian methods of debate, you do irreparable damage to your position.

You've been a great contributor to Videosift over the many months and I know you're not stupid in the slightest sense but I don't think debating is for you. You get too worked up.

Have you ever wondered why that, in nearly every forum/message board religious debate, those taking a pro-theist stance are much more prone to making emotionally-based arguments than non-theists? Now, I'm not saying non-theists don't get emotional or call names too. Some do. Nor am I saying there are no atheists who are ill-equipped to be debating as well. There are. But generally-speaking, this is what I've witnessed. It's worth thinking about.

Breaking: Oklahoma Highway Patrolman Fights with EMT 5/28/09

EMT: Trooper's Dash Cam Will Clarify Everything
http://www.ktul.com/news/stories/0509/627284.html

Tulsa - The paramedic involved in a confrontation with an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper caught on a cell phone camera says he doesn't expect any charges to be filed against him.

Maurice White, Jr. is the critical care paramedic seen in the video that has created quite a stir not only here in eastern Oklahoma, but all over the nation.

The video shows the aftermath of a traffic stop that took place while the Creek Nation ambulance was taking a patient suffering from heat exhaustion to the hospital. The ambulance was pulled over by the trooper because troopers say the driver failed to yield to his patrol car.

...................

White posted a message on NewsChannel 8's message board Friday morning, responding to the many questions our viewers have had.

He says quote, "I assure you that time and the trooper's dash cam will clarify everything."

He says the reason he got out of the ambulance in the first place was because he believed a person in the trooper's car was in need of medical attention.

"It was the fact that the trooper was approached at such a high rate of speed, and driving so erratically, I assumed that the woman in the front seat of the cruiser dressed in civilian clothing needed immediate help," white says. "That is why I initially stepped from the rear of the unit."

Troopers have accused White of assaulting them prior to the confrontation caught on the cell phone camera. That's something only the trooper's dash camera may be able to clarify.

Atheism WTF? (Wtf Talk Post)

Sketch says...

If you are asking why there are so many atheists on the sift, I'd probably have to say that it's been my experience that more technologically literate people tend to be of no faith, or at least not of any organized religion. That's not to say that there aren't religious computer geeks out there, but perhaps it's a sign of the information era since people can get opposing viewpoints from a number of different sources on this newfangled internet, instead of only having the one religious viewpoint hammered into their heads from parents or clergymen.

Of course there are plenty of intelligent, religious people here on the Sift, and some great discussions have been had, but I tend to find that the majority of people who really stick to their faith, like my parents, aren't lurking the message boards, and are instead busy with one-sided media that tells them what they want to hear, and doesn't question what they already believe, like Fox News.

Logic dictates that the most one can be is agnostic, since you can't disprove the existence of God, but that's really a cop out since it asks a question that shouldn't necessarily be there in the first place. Which is where the Spaghetti Monster and such come from, i.e. I can't disprove the existence of the Flying Spaghetti Monster so therefore I'm agnostic when it comes to His Noodliness. But if man hadn't invented the FSM, or God, then I wouldn't even be atheist, I'd just be me... Or something like that. So I reject the notion of a supernatural creator being altogether, so thus I become an atheist.

Anyway, that's my humble point of view. I'm sure someone more eloquent than myself has another. As for that beer, I'll get the first round.

I'll be honest. There's no way I would read a message board post this long under any circumstances. But I'm upvoting it because I think its important that people thing persistence pays off.

In reply to this comment by legacy0100:
Guys, as much as this all sound nice and happy, 'hugging' and 'persuading' just wouldn't work in certain areas. I'll come right out and say you guys are being delusional here.

Just with that video kronospeidon posted, that biker probably ignored the cop's orders to stop and attempts to weave through. So cop had to use necessary force to stop him.

You might say 'you can be nice while enforcing the rule'. Oh yeah? You think these guys would give their own time, purposely stop for you and wait for you to order you around? Not in NYC at least.

You think nice words would've made him stop instead? He would've past right through without a glance. If he had listened to the first warning and stopped, sure, give him a hug, a kiss, a reach-around and what have you. But when you fail to obey, you gotta crack the whips in order to make them listen.

Do I think all that force was necessary just to enforce someone to wear a helmet? No, I do think it was excessive. But that's not the issue here. The main point I'm discussing here is that 'nice words would NOT have stopped this man'.

If the biker had listened to the cop in the first place, this never would've happened. But he purposely ignored the cop giving orders to stop.

I currently work in a Gym in New York City, and I've got a bunch of meatheads from the city coming in to the gym and do whatever they wanna do. They're all pumped up from the energy drinks and dumbells. They're hyper, loud and full of testosterone.

I was nice to them back when I first started working here. But then they how far they can push the line, and they test you over and over and over. You have to put your foot down otherwise you're the only one getting hurt. They don't see you as a person, but merely as a 'worker they can take advantage of'

You give someone a break, and the next day they ask for the same thing, and then something else. And if you allow this to continue, they'll keep pushing until they get everything.

They don't limit themselves, and then the rules go haywire. They ask to get a break. But then what happens to other members who adhere to those rules? They ask for the same favor now, and the rules are no longer valid.

You wanna know how my day goes? Let's say someone is not wearing proper gym attire. Trying to work out while they're still in their Jeans. I call out their name to tell them it's not allowed in here. And guess what, they just walk right past you.

But they DID hear you, but they CHOOSE to ignore it. They know that once they're past the front desk and into the main floor, they think it's a done deal. Because nobody wants to chase after a person, either because they're lazy or because it's not worth it.

But I personally get out of my station and chase them down. They call me a hard-ass for doing that. But I only do it because ONLY THEN they listen to you. Otherwise all they do is get past the front gate as fast as possible, not make eye contact, pretending to listen to their IPOD. And then do whatever the hell they want once they're inside the gym. Ignoring all the guidelines and rules.

This one time the guy knew I was following him downstairs to give him a warning, so he decides to go into the spinning bike room and locks the door. You can see right through the plastic windows. I know he can see me, but he CHOOSES to ignore me, pretending to ride the bike with his head down.

I knock on the door, mouthing 'come out'. You know what he does? He pretends he can't hear me over the loud music playing on the overhead sound system... LOL Is he in middle school? you might ask. Nope, the guy was 32 years old.

Guess what, this happened perhaps at least 3 times a week when I first started working at the gym. Back when I was being the 'nice cop'. Nowdays I don't give a damn about their feelings or whatever lame excuse they gotta give. I don't do them favors nor do I care what they have to say. And guess what, only after I act like an asshole was when they started listening to me.

Even still, there's still one or two people (sometimes girls, especially the ones in their late 20s to mid 30s) trying the same shit on me per week. I admit I'm still not used to dealing with these types. I feel uneasy when I have to 'act' tough and be an asshole. But you gotta do what you gotta do in order to enforce rules, otherwise nobody will listen to it.

Nowadays they know I don't do them any favors and know I'll do something about it when they ignore me, either by talking real loud about their bad behaviors and embarrassing them in front of everyone or putting a hold on their membership.

It's like being in a iron cage with a bunch of wolves. If you appear too nice, these fuckers will perceive you as 'weak'. And they take advantage of you until you do something about it. They try to assert themselves whenever they see an opening, it's like a fucking prison cell. Of course, not all of them are like that, but it only takes a few of them to push the line, and rest would mimic the same behavior because they now know it's possible.

And once they know how far they can push it, even the nice ones who never behaved such ways would start to do it. They learn from what others have been doing, so they learn to mimic the techniques and tries to pull off the same shit on you.

Environment you live in, and the culture that dominates is a scary thing. It really is.

That is why niceness is such a dangerous tool to use. It's a double edged sword.

The Rachel Maddow Show: Apocalypse Now?

MaxWilder says...

I will never understand that "people will abuse the system" argument. Of course they will. There are people who abuse any system. Currently, we have people who are taking untold millions of dollars from the government and pocketing it. I'm a little less concerned about people who manage to game the welfare system. Ultimately, that is about writing the laws intelligently and enforcing them, not the system itself.

I do not believe that government should be the only resource for people to fall back on. Firstly, people should get help from their family and friends. Secondly, charity organizations might be of assistance. But as a last resort, government is the only organization that can make sure nobody slips through the cracks. It's not working very effectively right now, but it has that potential. That can't be done by a charity. If there is a charity that provides food, shelter, health care and job training to everybody nationwide, please let me know because I would like to support them.

I do not believe mob-rule is absolute freedom. If the mob decides to infringe upon an individual freedom, them who is to stop them?

That's kinda my point. Absolute freedom means there is no police to stop you or others from doing whatever you want. If someone wants to take something from you, you would have to defend yourself. If a group wants to take something from you, you would have to form a group for defense. At that point, whoever forms the strongest group would be able to do whatever they want to anybody else. There is no guarantee that the strongest group would be benevolent. That's called Ochlocracy, or mob-rule. That's why most libertarians still want some form of government, if only to maintain the peace and enforce contracts. Just be aware that is not "absolute freedom".

By the way, I looked at voicingopinions.com, and it's one of those message boards where the images in the signatures are ten times larger than the posts themselves. I wouldn't be caught dead on a message board like that.

What evidence makes you proclaim that "it's clear" all the accounts belong to one person? The same thing was assumed by several people about that Long Gone video the other day, but all evidence shows those were all unique individuals.
As I recall, all those Jake voters linked in from a message board (or the like) where they were calling for fans to promote the video, which is the same type of situation with the Long Gone video. Lots of acts have lots of fans that have no hesitation about signing up to cast a vote. It doesn't automatically mean they are all sock puppets.

already-fans didn't know he played the thingabob? and they all said the same kinda things? sigh, you're all missing the point. the video reeks of corruption, i just wanted it killed and resubmitted so there can't be any more controversy

The Barbie Drug ~ Melanotan

laura says...

update, if anyone is interested:
Without going into too much detail, both my husband and I used this product for several months. Results? wow.
Hubby already was able to tan with the sun, so he started darkening right away on a very low dose. No remarkable side effects on his part other than iron rods (expected, wink wink nudge nudge) and after three months his blood pressure was just a touch high so we are giving it a rest.
Me? As I have said before, I have never met anyone whiter than me. If I have any melanin naturally in my body I'd be surprised. Sunburns are a big deal. But I apparently do have melanocyte receptors because I did get a tan for the first time in my life. It was a very interesting and enriching experience.
From the start I used a very low dose and right away had several "cons" including incredible muscle aches (ibuprofen helped) and severe teeth grinding for some reason, especially at night. I found that laying in the sun for at least 30 minutes a day helped, which in and of itself was odd because I didn't burn at all as I always have. It took 8 weeks for me to notice the color. My hair even started growing out darker! I found that PT141 also greatly affected my thoughts. Libido was tremendously enhanced in that regard, if I had to pick one word to describe it I would say "yummy". I felt much more alive. I also found that I could do a lot of physical labor or work out and not get sore at all. It undeniably did something to my muscles and I had (and still have after being off of it for a couple of months) much greater strength. The teeth grinding was enough to make me take a break, however, and it quit when I stopped. I have found no mention of this from other people's stories on the melanotan message board either, so that's strange.
If anyone is considering doing research of their own, write me and I'll share what I learned!
