Here's a Mormon who understands true Christian morality

dag says...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

Appreciate you speaking up and contributing what will definitely be a dissenting view.

How is it OK for the Church to actively spend money and time to keep a subset of society from getting married?

How about mixed race marriages? Does the Mormon Church want to prevent that as well? Seems like it.

Ever since the Mountain Meadow Massacre the Mormon Church has been on the wrong side of morality and history.

>> ^Ydaani:

I also am LDS (not active but believing) but her acting like this video will threaten her temple recommend and standing in the church is a flat out joke. Harry Reid is a member of the Mormon Church and has a Temple Reccomend. Harry Frickin Reid! And this video is somehow gonna get her kicked out? Please. Also, I have no problem with her stance on Gay Marriage, I don't agree but I am fine with her opinion (you would be surprised how many members of the Mormon faith feel like her).
There is nothing wrong with the church promoting and asking members to offer support for what it espouses. I don't hate gay people (my brother is gay) but I reserve my right to stand against gay marriage if I so choose. I love illegal immigrants (the non-felon ones) and treat them as such but at the same time I will argue and ask for a more secure border. You can love the individual and disagree with the behavior.

Tallest Man On Earth "The Dreamer"

calvados says...

i'm just a dreamer but i'm hanging on
though i am nothing big to offer
i watch the birds, how they dive in then gone
it's like nothing in this world's ever still

and i'm just a shadow of your thoughts in me
but sun is setting, shadows growing
a long cast figure will turn into night
it's like nothing in this world ever sleeps

oh sometimes the blues is just a passing bird
and why can't that always be
tossing aside from your birches crown
just enough dark to see
how you're the light over me

and by your side, girl, where the acres grow
into the strong and stunning meadow
a cowboy stumbling in the finest field
and nothing good out there won't be old

oh sometimes the blues is just a passing bird
and why can't that always be
tossing aside from your birches crown
just enough dark to see
how you're the light over me

sometimes the blues is just a passing bird
and why can't that always be
tossing aside from your birches crown
just enough dark to see
how you're the light over me

Yep, going to make it *dark as I once laughed out loud at a ridiculous ad, stating "in cases, may cause sores, loss of memory, stomach complications and in certain circumstances, death..." All while showing smiling happy people going through a warm tinted meadow with a happy dog. It was one of the most bizarre things I saw...

Health Care, TARP, Stimulus: They Worked!

Lowen says...

I understand that you believe I'm holding some sort of double standard because I accused you and Rachael Meadow of "unjustified smug certainty" while dismissing your admittedly silly reply with my "No, not really". I can see how that could come across as smug, but it doesn't express any kind of certainty - only that I didn't think your reply was as relevant as you thought it was, which is to say I don't think it's relevant at all.

You should know that when you said-
"By the same logic you're using, we should be deeply skeptical that vaccination works."

- that the 'logic I was using' was a mockery of the 'logic' I saw Rachael's using.
I guess it wasn't your intent at all, but showing the ridiculousness of this actually strengthens my point.
"No, not really" means no, I don't really think that refutes the point I made at all.
You haven't really changed tack since this whole thing started, so my response is still essentially "no, not really", just with the number of words used to explain why increasing as I type this.

If you want to show me that you two aren't just engaging in ideologically driven gloating, show me evidence and reason. I would appreciate it if you didn't place me 'on the other side of the isle' just because I question the justification for your views, albeit in a sarcastic way.

A People's History of American Empire by Howard Zinn

I agree with what you're saying but it may be worth considering that Zinn was born in 1922; history may not have been taught this way when he was in school.

On the contrary i endlessly heard how we slaughtered indians and beat slaves. There was no patriotic reasoning for taking the land with violence and smallpox, just that we did it. So I cant help it if my propaganda alarm goes off in the back of my head when watching this.

I remember when I took Utah history classes when I was a kid the Mountain Meadows Massacre was still being taught as a slaughter at the hands of an Indian raid when historians have known for a very long time it was an organized massacre at the hands of Mormon settlers. This was only 12 years ago.
