Is @ant too cute? (User Poll by BSR)

BSR says...

Lol. There you go again. Too cute with your little ant antennae waving back and forth. Makes me just want to pinch your mandibles.

Chin blow carries mechanical force from mandible directly to the skull with no soft tissue shock absorption along the way--and the direct mechanical force of the blow translates to fore-and-aft movement of the skull WITHOUT any rotation absorbing the energy---skull imparts blows force directly to soft tissue of the brain as the inertial mass of the brain leaves it standing in place, being sloshed through the normally cushioning layer of cerebral spinal fluid to make direct mechanical contact with the inside of the skull (albeit through the layers of the pia, mater and dura) ----forebrain and probably including midbrain structures---and then whipsaws backwards with a contra-coup impact on the back the brain as the head snaps back. (occiput/visual centers)

The mechanical impact of the brain tissue on the inside wall of the brain probably causes (now I'm guessing, but it's an informed guess) the neurons to respond to the blow with a mass ionic depolarization/electrical potential trigger---and concussion.

If he's only averagely unlucky, he'll also have a intra-cerebral/parenchymal micro bleeding---and if he's really unlucky, he'll keep getting in that ring and he'll end up like the NFL players with serial concussions or like Muhammed Ali. A demented, Parkinsonian cripple.

Don't get hit in the head.

There's no evidence to demonstrate wolf to dog evolution either. I think their best evidence is a mandible found near a campsite. In *every* case like this, when you research the actual evidence you'll find there isn't any..and it is all based on inference and conjecture. Wolves don't produce tame offspring btw, no matter how many generations around humans. And yes, you can prove a negative..no senators are declared muslims. That's easily proven.

The experiment you're talking about did not produce anything new..the proteins for the adaptation existed in the genome from generation 1..it was merely a rearrangement of proteins that were already there. I'll rephrase my statement..no mutation produced a useful adaptation by adding anything new to the genome, which supports why macro-evolution has never been observed anywhere.

Dogs don't ever produce non-dogs.

Just like wolves never produced dogs?
>> ^shinyblurry:
It has never been once demonstrated that a mutation produced anything useful or added information to a genome..mutations actually destroy information

You can never prove a negative, but you can certainly disprove it.

Invocation links... (Sift Talk Post)

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

I agree that the Sift is not mandible/antenna user friendly enough. We'll work on that.

There is a confirmation required. It's the button with the text "submit new comment" on it that you clicked after the "discuss" link.

Hmm, I didn't see it last time.

I think what overcast means is that clicking an invocation only inserts it into the comment textbox. You still have to submit the comment by clicking the submit button, which can be seen as kind of a confirmation. Adding another confirmation for the invocation links themselves might be a bit overkill, especially when all you want to do is post an invocation without any additional text. You'd have to first click the invocation, then click its confirmation and then click submit.

Oh. See that was the thing, I wasn't paying attention and I must had accidently clicked on the link when moving my mouse. I do not have stable hands/a body.

Feeling Stupid? - Jump Onto A BullAnts Nest In Bare Feet!

jimnms says...

From Wikipedia:

Myrmecia, often called bulldog ants, bull ants, or jack-jumpers (although jack jumper really only describes M. pilosula, and not all species), is a genus of ants. Bull ants can grow to over 40 mm in length, with the smallest species 15 mm long. Almost all of the approximately 90 species are endemic to Australia, with the single exception of Myrmecia apicalis from New Caledonia, where it is rare.[1]

These ants are well-known in Australia for their aggressive behavior and powerful stings. The venom of these ants has the potential to induce anaphylactic shock in allergic sting victims. As with most severe allergic reactions, if left untreated the reaction may be lethal. These large, alert ants have characteristic large eyes and long, slender mandibles. They have superior vision, able to track and even follow intruders from a distance of 1 meter.
