"Beatrice" had a recurring role on Mad Men: season 4. She was the beatnik Life Magazine lesbian who was always hitting on Peggy.

Bit of trivia for you. Her name is Zosia Mamet, David Mamet's kid. I shit you not.

Ahh, right on!

Kevin Spacey

I just watched Glengary Glen Ross again just now. Everyone in that movie was perfect! Kevin Spacey was great, but I'd have to declare he was the weakest of the main cast. Maybe Alan Arkin was a bit less than him, but that has a lot to do with his role, I think.

Al Pacino, Jack Lemon, Ed Harris and (even that little part they wrote for the film) Alec Baldwin! Wow! The movie is brilliant. It also helps that it's the best Mamet play/screenplay to date.

Trailer for blankfist's movie "The Clockwise Family"

For some reason, with all the sexual politicking evident in the movie, this trailer reminds me a bit of Mamet's Oleanna (1994).

May be taken as a complement.. Like Oleanna, may be suited for the stage...

David Mamet recently walked away from liberalism. Once in a great while someone breaks out of the liberal matrix.

Joe Twelvepack doesn't have to be sober to see the grandiose failure of liberalism versus reality. Unlike limousine liberals, he lives in a world with real consequences and DOES vote in his best interests. He doesn't look kindly on elitists trying to tax him to death while pissing on American values.

If you crave stagnant socialism there's always Europe. Pack a prayer rug.

Simply genius, and played perfectly.
Mamet is a master of dialogue, but this monologue is for me his greatest stuff. One of two roles I've ever seen played by a Baldwin that I liked. This is up there with Sellers' phone booth conversation in Dr. Strangelove.

Charlie Rose on 2008 Presidential Race Tactics

Farhad2000 says...

Skip to 3:11 for the show.

No matter what QM and other right wing pundits say, the overwhelming coverage that the 2008 presidential race is getting now, clearly shows that the American people want change and they can't wait for it.

Anyway,

David Alan Mamet (born November 30, 1947) is an American author, essayist, playwright, screenwriter, and film director. His works are known for their clever, terse, sometimes vulgar dialogue, arcane stylized phrasing, and for his exploration of masculinity. As a playwright, he received Tony nominations for Glengarry Glen Ross and Speed-the-Plow. As a screenwriter, he received Oscar nominations for The Verdict and Wag the Dog. He also is involved with the Delta Force based show called The Unit. Though my favorite movie he worked on is Spartan.

I like that Rose asks Mamet why he doesn't comment on America's policy. Check it out it's simply fascinating, I really get an answer I never expected.

David Mamet joke...

There's a bum on the street, and he asks a passing lawyer "Brother, can you lend me a buck for a cup of coffee?".
The Lawyer looks at the bum with disdain in his eyes and responds "'Neither a borrower nor a lender be'- William Shakespeare".
The bum looks at the lawyer and says "'Fuck you, asshole'- David Mamet".

"Glengarry Glen Ross" was originally a play; Mamet wrote this scene and Baldwin's character specifically for the film version.
Best monologue ever, and Baldwin absolutely nails it. Would've like to seen him as Jack Ryan more than just once.
