Muse - Time is Running Out, Live at Glastonbury

rosekat says...

I was there, incredible performance. A lot of 'locals' were for some reason slagging radiohead, claiming muse are far 'better.' I found that odd, the compulsion to compare.

radiohead have the longevity.

Really, to be concerned about someone's feelings in a forum like this as they relate to rejection or pretermittance is a bothersome thought-adults should be able to deal, and the kiddies are overdue for some valuable life lessons-passive aggression comes to mind as a developmental factor-

Well, I know you don't have much tuck with sensitive comments .
But really, this isn't so much about getting all touchy-feely, as much as it is about loosing potentially interesting new members to the feeling of not getting anywhere because they're not part of the "in crowd".

The folks who want to share videos can make some allies, and my suggestion for these users who may feel ignored or passed-over?? Get creative. There is a world of video content out there, 95 percent of which is craptacular, and unworthy of merit.
True, but I doubt your 95% crap matches my 95% crap. The intersection of our crap sets may not even be that high, since quality and crapiness does seem to be subjective.

The possibilities are limitless here, and longevity and tenacity goes a long way to hoist oneself up in the ranks, if that is your desire
If by "your" you mean mine in particular, then no it isn't. See my response to Obsidianfires comment.

The blog feature, yet to be effectively utilized save for a few users, takes into consideration the pool idea, innit???
Does it? Dunno, never looked at the videosift blogs. But if they aren't fundamentally different from the rest of the blogosphere, they'll not really fit the bill of what I'm suggesting (I want to have groups of people below the global level being able to pool and share videos, a blog is still one person blogering on about something or other). I'll have a look at them tonight, maybe they are.

Still others, take the lower path-paid accounts and flavor-of-the-week news reports or editorials-about as creative and engaging as e-mail spam. Atheist vs. Christian, bush-bashing, Iraq, etc??....old news, IMLTHO...

Codex Alimentarius

snoozedoctor says...

Good points all,
I don't know what the answer is for our national epidemic of obesity. It is totally out of control. U.S. citizens are addicted to "value" of portions, i.e. "how much food can I get for a dollar?" and addicted to high carbohydrate diets. It's sugar, with it's stimulation of insulin secretion, that makes you obese, not fat. Sedentary lifestyles are also a huge problem.

People can criticize the fast food chains (our local newspaper editor laments the decision to exempt restaurant chains from lawsuits by obese people....arrrggg.), but you can't blame a business for giving the public what they want. And don't throw that brainwashing business at me, TAKE SOME PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. QUIT EATING SO MUCH.

Depression has a huge genetic component. As KP pointed out, there are people who need meds to stay healthy and, as it turns out, we are both in that camp. And I know about "activation" from SSRIs because they made me absolutely whacko.

National health service? Again, I'm stumped. Our current system is rife with middlemen profits. When you see the middleman for orthopedic hardware at your hospital living in a mansion and driving a car a doctor can't afford, you know something is wrong.

Don't let people con you in to thinking the quality of medicine in the U.S. is inferior to other industrialized countries. It's not. Infant mortality rates are high when drug, alcohol, or tobacco abuse exist during pregnancy. Likewise, murder rates and unhealthy lifestyles contribute to our decreased longevity.

THE RICH ARABS STILL COME TO THE US FOR THEIR HEALTHCARE FOR GOOD REASON.

I have always been against the idea of a national health-care plan. I'm starting to reconsider. The current system is SO complex and has SO much special interest, it may have to be completely blown up and rebuilt. (Good luck getting that through congress).

I strongly recommend you go to the following URL and watch "Sick around the world"

No country has it completely figured out yet. But, some are doing better than others.

The Golden Rule implies the Harm Principle, etc. (Blog Entry by jwray)

choggie says...

Thank you, Pastor of the Church of One. Keep going with this glorious model for the Golden Rule of Big Government.

Harm principle complicates a universal truth-chicken and egg scenario-plus, you are all for the separation of church and state as you understand it, eh?...plug in whatever that means, and divide by atheism>=any religion
Eugenics? Oh it's been tried and still survives in the idyllic world of the rich and powerful-
Taxing the healthy, educated or otherwise pre-disposed to longevity, to pay for bloated, uneducated monkeys, most of which are already subsidized by the dole principle, kept stupid to turn a nation into useful idiots??? Fuck man, old models work in the hobbled minds of the lazy, and easily led.

"Liberalism is totalitarianism with a human face."
-Thomas Sowell

Of course, we'd all love the freedom which inevitably leads to state control, how about a Gattica scenario, work for ya???....

"What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans, and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty or democracy?"
-Mohandas Gandhi

Check yer mind at the door, your argument is impeccable...

Well excuse us for being so beneath your mighty solutions to world problems. Perhaps when you live in an ideal world your ideal wishes will be granted.

Interplanetary/Interstellar travel for exploration, new discoveries, new knowledge, and, oh, I don't know, an alternative place for our species to live. We could face the future facts and understand if we continue to breed as we do, and consume resources as we do, we won't last all that long on this rock. And before someone gets wise and says "oh so then we can just go and ravage another world", no that's not what I'm suggesting either.

I fail to see how building yet another efficient device at murdering people "helps" our planet, or our species.

And wait a second! You also must be a poor, delusional low-brow, because you're you've obviously just watched this.

That I did, however I didn't giggle with delight at the idea of that weapon being used in any manner whatsoever. Be it in a time of war, or even a demonstration. Nor did I think about how "cool" it was, etc. I merely find such instruments to be completely unnecessary. If anyone sees a reason for such a thing to exist, I'd love a detailed explanation as to why. Same sort of explanation would be nice for the existence of something like this. Also; the reason "to defend our country/people/way of life" reasons I don't quite accept as legitimate. There's more than enough horrific weapons to do such things.

Just imagining someone being hit by such devices makes me cringe and doubt the longevity of the human race that much more.

Then again, you could say these are the deluded opinions of a humanist that likes the imaginary idea of peace, so you could just go ahead and cast them aside.

California Supreme Court Overturns Same-Sex Marriage Ban

choggie says...

What in particular? The whole spiel or the use of figurative references? Lemme translate-
-I'm no holy roller
-I know humans, animals, and I know history
-the "spiral" refers to the evolution of societies, empires, iterations of civilizations and their time lines, all have a beginning, middle, and end.
-flagrant and open homosexuality has been invariably associated the decline of great civs, hence, the reference to Belshazzar of Babylon.
-and I added a bit to the last comment, from the court record you reference-
San Francisco is a showcase for many things-lived there for 6 years-
The current mayor(worthless yes-man, run the city into the ground during his admin. faster than others), the one emotionally commenting (sound bites)on this auspicious occasion which was pretty much a unilateral effort on the part of some of the most radical and out-of-synche examples of the homosexual activist community in San Fran, to undermine majority public opinion for the sake of their own-fuck em. They don't deserve preferential treatment-on the contrary, they already have it....a whole town to play in, walk down the streets publicly during city-sanctioned events wearing only a cock-ring and pasties-(not all of em, some still have some dignity)
This is not a sign that a country is strong, healthy, or resolute in furthering positive societal evolution with a view to longevity-on the contrary, it has been an historical invariability towards a lower path-self-realization and actualization being the universal imperative-

Saw -- the original short film

lucky760 says...

Intense. Very well done indeed.

Tangent: The two-man screenwriting team who won the last Project Greenlight for writing Feast have since become a Hollywood success and wrote Saw IV, and did a pretty good job of it, tying together the three prior flicks in the series. Now they have also been contracted to pen Saw V and Saw VI.

This is the first horror series (or any series for that matter) since Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street to have such longevity and in such rapid succession. This little short film has really exploded through the atmosphere.

Batman and Robin: Sesame Street Public Service Announcement

Are Cell phone towers and HV power lines killing us?

choggie says...

Sham science is no worse than human beings incapable of following instincts with a view to longevity-This planet at the current pace is doomed. You expect the world to be able to sustain China's lust for the trappings of western civ' creature comforts, all 2 billion of em??
Uhhh, worldwide economic collapse and a resulting culling of 2/3rds of the Earth's population, might make this world a better place.....if we do it now, maybe 3 generations from now, we will be able to do it without a carbon copy of the clusterfuck we enjoy now.

Stop shopping for Christ's sake,(we already have enough plastic shit from china to BUILD an artificial satellite) buy used clothes, grow some frikkin' vegetables that have some goddamn flavor, and say yes to hallucinogens....!!!

God I'm glad I'm not a lab-rat insect.....equally as happy that some folks balls start to tingle when they pick up an Erlenmeyer flask fulla goo for a paycheck....to each his own.

Requeue Now Resets "Unique Member Views" Counter (Sift Talk Post)

lucky760 says...

It may seem complicated, but in actuality, common users need not know the algorithm for it to work. The bottom line with my "back off" proposal is that a video will start at the top and as time goes by, each requeue will place a video first near then further and further back (but always nearer than before the requeue). This means that your video has had a few chances at or near the top and was never published, so eventually it will have very little chance to get published.

This insures there is some actual sifting happening. I.e., it won't be guaranteed that every video will get published if you just bide enough time. It's like a votes-to-views ratio except takes into account longevity and staleness.

Happy birthday Ant!!!! (Sift Talk Post)

kronosposeidon says...

Happy Birthday, ant, and many more. You'll probably outlive us all, because I hear downvoting is the key to longevity. If you're willing to burrow all the way down into my coffin you can have my gold fillings. If you can move a rubber tree plant than extricating the precious metals from my mouldering remains should be a cakewalk. (Cake! Get it? Because it's your birthday! Wheeee!)

Youtube simpsons movies (Sift Talk Post)

choggie says...

yessir, and they are getting pretty efficient, at finding them and killing them....I am thinking of uploading some, to see how long the turnaround is.....the key to longevity on you tube would be, to cloak the uploads, with obfuscated titles.....

Why can't we dead videos in the queue? (Sift Talk Post)

dag says...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

If we deaded and left it in the queue, I think it would cause confusion.

To be honest - if a post goes dead while it's in the queue - it doesn't bode well for the longevity/legality of the clip.
