I wouldn't have thought anyone could do it, but he almost managed to make Lizzy sound like it -was- a country song. At least the new country (like Big & Rich).

I understand what you're saying, and for the most part I'm forced to agree. But, saying the healthcare reform had a few caveats to business is like saying, "Lizzy Borden had a few issues with her parents."

The things that bother me most about Obama are the way his civil rights promises have been mostly ignored. He made no visible attempt to block the amnesty for telecom companies, indeed he voted for it. No investigation of torture and who ordered it. Increased use of the state secrets defense. In most ways as far as civil rights goes, he took the Bush line and doubled down.

I'm thankful (in some sad way) that it truly doesn't matter if I vote in this election...Kansas won't go for a Democrat for at least another 20 years or more (we'll need at least one more generation to die off, and maybe two or three). They sure aren't going to go for a somewhat-right-of-center black man.

I tend to think I'm a fairly average looking dude, but when I moved to Thailand 5+ years ago, I noticed that people would stare at me all the time. It made me self-conscious at first, in a "what, do I have a booger on my nose?" sort of way. Over time I realized that in the off-the-beaten-track province that I live in, a fairly hefty proportion of people see western foreigners very rarely or even never. Just like you said, they aren't trying to be dicks by staring. I'm just different -- and different is worth checking over somewhat more than usual.

I got used to it, and now I don't notice it unless I am consciously checking -- but it does still happen. Then again, it is probably a little bit easier to get used to the "blatant curiosity" that I am exposed to here as compared to the more negative elements visible in the faces of people that stare at Lizzie every day...

I know that feeling, Lizzie. That is why I love the Internet so they can't see me and animals/nature don't care what I look like.
