tofucken-the vegan response to turducken

newtboy says...

@eoe, I have a question for you.
What do you do about insects like ants in your home, or on your body? Do you kill them, or live and let live?
If you kill them, poison them, or toss them outside in the freezing weather, you can stop pretending you care about all animals and realize you only care about the one's you think are worth caring about, and only to the level you think is proper....just like all those meat eaters.
If you live and let live, good for you for living your convictions, but stay away from me with your bugs. ;-)

Exercise is NOT the Key to Weight Loss

Xaielao says...

Wait.. overweight people don't have control of their lives?

Good food isn't necessarily just rabbit food. Organic food for example, tastes wonderful. Yes it's expensive to buy pre-packated organic foods in the grocery store but joining a local co-op or community of organic farmers in your area can save a lot of money.

Cook with raw ingredients, significantly cut prepackaged or fast food/restaurant meals. A lot of things considered unhealthy just a few years ago are being revealed to be very good for you, like butter, whole milk (especially unpasteurized). Meats are fine in moderation, even red meat is really good for you if you reduce over-all consumption of it.

Healthy food can be absolutely delicious, it just takes a bit of prep time and some cooking skill. Eating healthy doesn't mean 24/7 salad with a side of salad.

Go check out Scandinavia and then let me know whether you still think Barack is a socialist.

Exactly. the thing about Scandinavia, is that while most Americans would probably be SHOCKED by our "socialism", we still have most of the so-called freedoms Americans have (the only exception being stricter gun-control), and we are still a great leap away from communism, ie: actual socialism in the negative sense. After Reagan and Bush 1 and 2, it seems the US have missed out on all the benefits a social democracy can actually provide. Americans seems to live in a perpetual fantasy of achieving the "American Dream" and they have been duped into this mode of thought by corporations and special interests.

The constitution and Bill of rights are really good, and revolutionized democracy in its time, some basic principles are still as valid today, but democracy can, and has, evolved from there, including the rights for women to vote. The question Americans ought to ask themselves is whether it is possible to create a sustainable, thriving soceity and democracy were more than the richest 3% can reap benefits and live good lives. Yes it is.

It is the year 2438.

In the early 21st century, riding on the back of the popularity of our Eternal Martyr, St.Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, who was brutally assassinated in 2012 by the evil terrorist group Anonymous, Scientology experienced some sky-rocketing numbers, converting people by the millions. By 2100, Scientology had over 1.4 Billion adherents worldwide. Today, with its 3.5 billion followers, it is the second largest religion in the world, only slightly behind Mormonism.

In many countries, Scientology is the vastly dominant religion, with up to 95% of the population identifying themselves as scientologists. Some critics say Scientology is little more than a money-making scam cult, invented by a second-rate science-fiction writer in the late 20th century, but most people have a much more nuanced view, they argue that it is the extremists scientologist that are the problem, and Scientology is a peaceful religion, its been over 60 years since the last Suppressive Person was hanged, for instance, and some countries even have basic psychiatric treatment facilities, where only part of the treatment is Dianetics, many hospitals now even have psycologist, people who used to be executed on the spot if caught red-handed asking personal questions without a qualified e-meter operator nearby.

Today, most people dont really spend that much time on reaching OT III, some who identify themselves as scientologists, say they dont even believe in thetans, but Scientology is part of their culture, they say, and its not just about denying psyciatric treatment or harassing SP's. Its so much more than that, it roots back to the laws and customs of many countries, and many people live good, happy lives as scientologists, so why cant these critics just leave them alone? Why would anyone seek to demonize all scientologists as if they were criminals, isnt this just hate-mongering, designed to spark fury among the extremists?

ART OF SEDUCTION: Not Pretty, Really

vermonter says...

I think this (the video and comments) just demonstrate that having something doesn't make your life necessarily more happy. Obviously these folks are showing that being attractive doesn't make their lives good by itself. The same could be said of having money. There is a point where having more doesn't increase happiness.

As LittleRed noted, at the end of the day, it is how you do with what you've got that bring satisfaction.

Religious discussion on The Sunday Edition (ITV1)

imstellar28 says...

Wow Dawkins is a genius, he just proved that the Bible provides no moral code to society. Its not explicit, but as Dawkins mentions the very act of "cherry-picking" that people do with the bible--that is they choose to believe in the "good" parts and ignore the "bad" parts is a moral code in itself independent of the bible.

Most proponents of religion when backed into a corner always respond with...well...so maybe God doesn't exist but at least religion provides instruction for people on how to live good lives, but Dawkins has effortlessly proved this false!

For those interested in Dawkins or religion/evolution read "The Blind Watchmaker" its a brilliant book that I guarantee will open your eyes at least a couple times per chapter.
