I think maybe people are suffering from lip-synch fatigue - but it's got my vote as a historical document

Every Friday night in the 4th-6th grades my parents dropped me off at the local recreation center for a dance. The grown-ups called it a Sock Hop and always played this as the final song. This was about 1970 so we thought is was SO old.

The dance mostly consisted of the boys fidgeting on one side and the girls praying on the other, and we did skits. I did Donnie Osmond's Puppy Love, lip-synched to a giant stuffed poodle. LOL.

The videos mostly stink. What kind of place is this? Where is the return of Numa Numa? Where are LonelyGirl and the lip-synching teenagers? Where is all the College and the Geek that PC World promised me?

They dance well but the decision to lip synch along with parts of the song was completely idiotic and made me so uncomfortable I had to click the comment button to stop the feeling.

@pho3n1x: Well, we did have young ladies (Lynn and Tess) lip synching to Aqua, but they didn't fare too well. Almost as bad as the furries girl.

Interesting, but not unexpected. If the ad industry can manufacture artificial images of models, why not the music industry.

But of course these artificial pop tarts eventually self destruct, or gain some talent so they don't have to lip-synch.

In the world of anime there have been 2 feature length productions that took it to a whole new level.

The first was Akira, which was revolutionary at the time because it was the first anime ever to fully lip synch and animate conversations, whereas before the characters were made to stand still while only their mouths moved.

The second was Ghost In The Shell, one of the first animes to blend CG artwork with classical methods. As well as one of the first to use CG color grading.

The third one which I did not mention because it's a personal choice is Millienium Actress. Which was the second anime ever to really move me on a deeply emotional level, and prove to me why film could never fully capture what anime could achieve. Before it was Grave of the Fireflies, which along with Bambi were the only animated films to ever make me cry.
