Qui Gon, worst jedi ever?

Art of the Saber - One of the best home made duels ever

Yeah, it doesn't look like they're trying to cut flesh, they're just hitting each others' saber blades. It looks nice for video, tho.
And I like Darth Pillowbiter's magenta light saber. It looks fabulous!

Now, now, don't be a Vader-hater. This is definitely above average work as far as fan-made saber duels go and I like how they tried to hint at a story in the opening monologue. However, I think we all know that the best home-made lightsaber duels belong to Ryan and Dorkman:

Counter-Strike - You Got Owned By A Five Year Old

He's wrong there's no evidence that playing counter-strike harms children? So present the evidence. Stop making assertions you can't back up. None of your three posts so far have contained a single scrap of useful argument.

>> ^spoco2:
I just looked at one of this guy's other videos (of his son at 4 playing counterstrike) and he has this comment on it:

For those who feel the need to post "bad parent" comments, get a life. There is no evidence that playing this type of game does anything but improve hand eye coordination. My son is a social and academic achiever at the top of his class. He knows the game is pretend.
To me, this is no different than playing "cops and robbers" with cap guns as I did as a child.

He is so wrong.

That's not exactly what I was saying 'He is so wrong' about actually. I was saying that in regards to it being no different to cops and robbers. Playing cops and robbers is effectively playing tag... really, that's all it is. You could also suggest that Counterstrike is also like playing tag, except that it involves playing with guns and seeing relatively realistic depictions of death.

Look, I know that the kids that I see who are exposed to this sort of thing a lot play and behave differently. My own kids, when they watch a small bit of Star Wars (only some bits, even that film can scare a 4 year old), they get into pretend light saber battles with each other and play really roughly for the next day or so. Not let them watch things like that, and instead they're building train tracks, building things out of lego etc. etc. Constructive vs Violent play.

I don't have the time to track down a study that says it's harmful to kids, I'm sure they're out there, I'm sure that there are also those that say it has no effect, I'm rather numbed to 'studies' these days as so, so many of them are poorly done, don't take into account other factors and come to bizarre conclusions. Not to mention you find out that many of them are sponsored by some group with a vested interest.

I would really like to see what this kid is like in 10 years time, I really would.

I'm certainly not a 'shelter my kid from everything' kind of parent, certainly not in regards to climbing trees and what not... but really, do they have to be exposed to this kind of violence, especially violence they are in control of at this young an age.

Give them a chance to have some innocence before you try to turn them into your gaming buddy.

It's all about age appropriateness. Not 'games are bad' vs 'games are good'... just in general, think about what you expose your kids too. If they DO get exposed to violence or the like, at least discuss it with them so they understand it.

Star Wars Retrospective - Part 6

ponceleon says...

It is really interesting. I remember Dark Forces just being absolutely awsome. That said, I remember when the original Jedi Knight came out, I was a bit pissed off about it because I felt it was a cop-out to make Katarn a Jedi. In the original game, he was basically a Han Solo clone without having to be Han Solo. Solo isn't a Jedi and I felt the were just kind of desperate to include a light-saber...

Still, I did play Outcast and it was another awesome game. I remember thinking that it was some of the best light-saber action in any game...

Weezer - Pork and Beans (Count the Memes)

jmd says...

Charlie (candy mountain) and Evolution of dance are both in my list.

EDD,I saw the cubes but since nothing was actually being done with them, its hard to attribute it to any meme. In my mind, the most coolest thing ive seen done with rubiks cubes in the past years, are the amature made cube solvers made with webcams and basic robotics. As for the light sabers, the 2 nerd duelist are ryan vs dorkman. They made 2 videos consisting of light saber duals, reproducing some high level special effects like terrain impacts and sparks. Its possible to attribute the light saber effect on lot of other things in the videos due to the gauntlet of HOW TO videos on making your own light saber effects in movies.

Eric, nice catch. Never seen the video till now, but the mouse placement and the overexposure glow from the window as well as overall color is dead on.

uhohzombies, nice catch, although I didn't notice nearly as many memes in there. Its possible they are from different circles. Weezers is pretty much a years worth of 4chans /flash board condensed into a video. And of course both BNL and weezers song itself sucks.. so yea.. their trying tp ride hype trains that are not their own.

Soul Calibur 4 Trailer, with Vader and Yoda

OK, I gotta ask, how the hell can light sabers be used here, if they could conceivably slice through anything, or anyone? And what's to stop Vader from using the ol' force choke-hold? (ysamari?)

Bibleman vs Doubt (or Critical Thinking is a Bad Thing)

Ryjkyj says...

As a former atheist. I feel as though it is my duty to inform the other members of the Sift that were it not for this fantastic presentation of celestial wisdom, I would still be languishing in my formerly pathetic existence.
I would still be empty. Devoid of all meaning, morality or truth. Writhing in a pit of horrible shame for the ghastly pall of doubt cast upon me by the freezing shadows of science and supposed reason.
Upon completion of the veiwing of this epic saga. This masterpiece of man's triumph over the forces of seemingly impenetrable darkness. I have to say that my heart is now lifted above the treachery of men and their critique of His holy creation! My soul now soares through a thoughtlessly brilliant and glistening heaven. My mind, as if laid to rest in the very bosom of endless, comfortable silence, is free to explore and wonder at the innumerable marvels of the full 4,000 years of man's existence. My questioning fear, soothed. The crushing burdens of skeptisism, alleviated. I am enlightened. Nay! Riven! By this divine revelation of the world beyond my earthly illusions! And yet I am whole! I am complete in my understanding of His word and I bask in his eternal love.

God shower his blessings on this... Bible... Man. For showing me my foolishness with his light saber of unerring faith. Glory unto him.

And glory!!! to KIRK CAMERON!!!

upvote for extreme wtf!

I do hate things like that being called Science fiction though... I know they were going for that as the feel, but what did they do? Whack on some shiny costumes and that's it...

Where's the light sabers?

Where's the andriods?

Dang it... that's just not science.
