hmmmm...no mixed feelings...could the culprits in the debacle, be a combination of the historically corrupt politicians of the state, the engineers who originally decided to build these crap levees that the Dutch studied, and concluded that even they were at a loss to come up with any solutions, and the folks now whining, because they chose to "dig in" below sea level, without educating themselves as to the state of affairs of planet Water. Taxes are exactly that - a redistribution of wealth - in all forms. Medicare? Interstate highways? NSF grants? The list goes on. The purpose of redistributing wealth is to enable the creation of greater wealth for everyone. The rich get richer, and the poor get richer. It's called the common good.

If the federal government had answered years of calls from folks in Louisiana to help rebuild the wetlands and improve the levee system, that tragedy would likely never have happened.

New Orleans avoided a direct hit by Katrina but was flooded when the US Government's levees broke. It was the US governments failure to maintain the levees that destroyed New Orleans, not Katrina. What's screwed up is that the Mississippi Gulf Coast, which was destroyed by Katrina, is getting a proportionately larger amount of rebuilding money from the federal government where it wasn't even their fault. I guess it helps to have a republican govenor.

Btw, my dad actually works with this stuff, and when I mentioned this video, he just says "this is what we've been saying for years" and when you ask him, he just says "Burn it[in a facility with cleansing systems]", that way you instantly transfer the energy to something useful. The ashes can even be used to create concrete, he said they do this in places like Belgium and Holland, and the concrete is used to make levees etc.

.....so, why should we rebuild a town that is(was)below sea level, with inadequate dikes or levees, an infrastructure dependent upon conventions and a once a year party, and a state government with a history of corruption, graft, and organized crime?????

When the queue goes back to normal levels here at least most things are back to normal. New Orleans is still dealing with looters, new crooks, crooked contractors, broken pipes, shortened business hours (places that used to be open late), higher costs of living, lawsuits, FEMA trailers, levees (not quite fixed yet), etc.
